But hey, I’ve been playing it safe thus far, I might as well see what happens if Sprocket behaves herself.) Day 6 Fires... Minor Chemical spills… Stolen carts... Partially unscrewed light bulbs? That’s a cute prank, but there wasn’t even property damage to fix for that one. If it were up to her, Sprocket would simply have left a prank like that in her workspace be and screw bulbs back in only as needed. It was much more satisfying to prank pranksters back by pretending nothing happened. So far all she had learned from the internship was that working in a small clan was much more interesting than a large organization that had streamlined everything. The fae filled out the archive form quickly and reached for the next file. But wait, what’s this? There was a second file jammed into one of the folders on her desk. Sprocket pulled the folder out and slid the second one out enough to peak at it. 'Results of third exploration of the sunken manufacturing facility at site 097-B54,’ it read. The fae’s eyes widened and she had to fight to keep her fans in a neutral position. Information on an ongoing investigation of an incident far more unusual than a workplace hazard. If she was lucky, this was exactly the sort of information she had been hoping to stumble upon here. Her thoughts raced. Her claws itched where they touched the forbidden file. She never had been very good at obeying inconvenient rules. Her clan could attest to that- one of the reasons she had stayed there was because of their rather lenient social hierarchy. What was the worst that could happen if she was caught reading this? A termination of her internship? She was prepared to risk that. But what if the lightning flight had something more sinister in store for dragons that had seen something they shouldn’t? She had no backup save Cogger to get her out of trouble, and theirs were the last hands she wanted her golem to fall back into. And what if the file didn’t really have anything of use to her? She would have thrown away poor Dalfryn’s trust in her for nothing. She was willing to put her own skin at risk for knowledge, but was this risk really worth taking? She stared at the file a moment longer, committing the title and site number to memory. Then she took her claws off the file and slid it around to face her supervisor, where she could show it to him. She was doing this for Dalfryn’s sake, she told herself, so he wouldn’t take a fall with her if his intern misbehaved, and not because she was afraid of the consequences for once in her life. “Hey, Dalfryn? I don’t think this is supposed to be here.”

Day 6

Fires...

A small amount of thick, red sludge was added to the container above them, and the instant the fluid hit the rather tempestuous mass below, it calmed and turned an iridescent hue of dark orange. The Fae looked back down at his parchment to double-check, and--yep, that was it! He looked back up, satisfied, just in time to see the Doc come back in. Were they tracking his progress? he wondered with a tilted head. In the end he shrugged it off; they'd done a flawless job, and the Bogsneak seemed to feel similarly. Doctor Enigma led them off to their next assignment. Ixion could barely contain his excitement--until he was explained what he was expected to do. He couldn't help but be slightly disappointed; there wasn't much SCIENCE to this, after all. As he was left to his own devices again, he took in a deep breath, steeling himself. This might not be SCIENCE specifically, but it was important all the same! A young Guardian (in another dashing lab coat) called out, tail pointing at the shelves. The Fae made to go for the container closest to him, then paused. He knew that aluminum was more prone to corrosion, but depending on the type of plastic the barrels were made of, they could be an even worse option... Ixion twitched his wings and shook his head. No, surely they wouldn't use anything less than polyethylene for their containers here. With a decisive nod, he flew up to the top shelves and grabbed one of the plastic barrels--rather heavy; he thanked his generator for making him bulk up--and swiftly brought it over to the dragon that had called for his attention.

A windy plateau is ordinarily a poor place to fold anything, but it made an exceptionally poor location for folding a massive, slippery rocket parachute. It was all worth it to guarantee a successful launch, though! She was quite ready to get out of the wind and storm with the rest of the interns but Max pulled her aside as she followed them towards the door. Ainsly's initial disgruntlement quickly turned to excitement as the nocturne complimented her work and asked her to personally help with a few of the last-minute touches. Max presented her with two options: the installation of a guidance and return system and the application of a hilarious coat of fiery paint to the rocket. Though Ainsly could get behind a good practical joke, a guidance and return system was vital for such an important project--certainly moreso than a coat of paint, no matter how amusing! As an engineer, the fact that the security of the job came first was something so deeply ingrained into her memory that even she couldn't forget it; paint would have to wait until all the work was done. "Well, as much as I'd love to see a rocket covered in painted flames, I think it would probably be better to install the guidance and return system you made...after all, paint would be pretty hard to work with in winds like these!"
Doctor Enigma returned partway through and seemed to approve of her work, which served as even more motivation for Clover to finish patching the rest of the leaks as well as she could. When she finally finished her task, the Doctor announced that their fuel was ready, making the other workers cheer and Clover beam with pride. Seemingly as further confirmation that she was doing well, Doctor Enigma proceeded to offer Clover a choice between two side projects. While learning more information about Stormcatcher’s activity seemed interesting, Clover had always had a soft spot for familiars, so getting the chance to work with one was an opportunity she couldn’t pass up.

The task he'd given her was quite simple, and she accomplished it very quickly. Of course, Max's comment about the machine 'going up in flames' was slightly worrying. She didn't want to be the dragon responsible for ruining what these dragons had spent so long building. After she finished shining the part, she walked back outside to go find Max and tell him what had happened. Anything to stop the guilt trip.

Probably best to ensure that any research invested in the machine doesn't get lost in space. He smiles indulgently. Still, the prospect of what it contained was intriguing. By 'sunken', did they mean the facility was subterranean or submerged? What happened during the first two explorations? What happened during this one? All the same, something Dalfryn had said during the explanation was bothering him. Security clearances were important in incident reporting, and he had been told to not look in any files he hadn't been given. He'd technically been given this one, but it clearly wasn't supposed to be there and sounded much more dangerous than techie carts getting stolen. What to do, what to do... Oh, what the heck. He'd just ask the Skydancer about what the file was doing among reports of minor incidents and maybe he'd get to read it. Even if that didn't happen, Opp recalled something about one of Skoll's three dozen siblings working in the archives or whatever. He could pester the larger Nocturne about it when he got back. He leaned his head around the fake wall. "Hey, Dalfryn? There's this one case file in here that I'm pretty sure shouldn't be. Can I have a second opinion?"
