You decide to try heating the crystal. The effect is immediate, and astonishing... The outside of the crystal melts away to reveal several pieces of amber, settled within some mysterious Orange Goo.

This stone seems pretty solid, but you quickly figure out how to get at the items within. You submerge the stone in water and watch in awe as the stone unravels - it appears that the blue fins had managed to make a completely smooth covering, but now they open up delightfully to reveal the following:

As you take hold of the rock, the spikes break off and crumble in your hands, revealing a baby guardian sitting in the remnants!

Obsidian
Minerals & Ores
The glassy surface of this igneous rock shines like a mirror.
Mineral 1 is small and rough to the touch. The texture is granulated, and you feel like you could crush it in your hand with very little difficulty.
Mineral 2 is geometric and spirals outward in a series of shiny fractal squares. It's dark but has a pinkish sheen to it, and you have to be careful of the sharp edges.
Mineral 3 is vibrating, and the hum it emits is soothing, like a lullaby.

You lift up the grainy rock and, to no surprise, it crumbles away into a fine green dust. When the dust hits the ground you hear a rumbling, and the floor begins to ooze various colors. What was that thing made of?

You pick up the odd-looking stone and hear a sudden screeching noise. Your head jerks up and standing right in front of you, called forth by the crystal, is a very agitated Ridgeback. You put down the rock and begin to back away, but the dragon charges at you and before you can think of what to do, it is carrying you up, up, and away. Hopefully its just really excited to be your friend.
@BlazingReshiram1
Before you can touch it, the mineral begins to vibrate faster and faster. The pitch of the hum accelerates until it becomes a continuous ringing sound and you cover your ears. The rock explodes, and when you look up, a creature hovers in the air before you, humming slightly.
