Lore Beings outside of reality watch over the flow of time and space. Though not from Sornieth, they choose to take the forms of dragons when taking a closer look at this world in order to blend in. They are the Fates, and this world is but one book in the series they write into existence. The Fates will often make homes in small pocket dimensions created in ruins and caves. The most prestigious Fates live on an island off the coast of the main continent of Sornieth, in a massive communal temple known as The Cathedral of Fate. This secret place simply does not exist to those not given permission to enter it. ---- Long ago, only a bit after the First Age, The Fates of Sornieth found themselves in a civil war. Fighting for control were two sides; one calling themselves Arch-Fates, while the other referred to itself as the Anarchist-Fates, or Anti-Fates. What each side wanted was simple; the Arch-Fates- lead by Casious [outfit=1180770] desired to keep things 'traditional'. Staying clear of their creations and working from an indifferent distance. Anti-Fates- lead by Mesmera [outfit=1180930] desired a more hands on approach with their characters. They wanted to live among their creations. Communicate with them and be known by them. Fighting broke out. Fate against Fate. Characters were often caught in the crossfire, their lives shattered by unseen and unknown forces. In the end, the Arch-Fates stood victorious. Mesmera and those who fought alongside her were cast out from the Cathedral of Fate. Excommunicated from their people, their power over Sornieth faded...but they were not willing to fade from existence... Personality Generally Fates are secretive. To interact with their creation is a treat, but they cannot allow anyone to know of their true nature, nor can they interfere with the natural order of the world they visit. There are three ranks of Fate: Archivist, Author, and Assistant. Archivists are the most rare and powerful, Authors are the most well known and the most common, and Assistants are the lowest ranking but most socially aware rank. Archivist Fates spend their days cataloging everything made within the world, keeping the other Fates in check by being the final say in who can create what and where. They usually have a preferred story archetype they enjoy cataloging, such as love stories or horror stories. Think of them as...specialty librarians, keeping order in their favorite section of the massive library of Fate. Archivists do write, but not their own characters or situations. They instead write down interlinking narratives within their Authors' stories, helping to condense plotlines. Author Fates create the beings, whom they call Characters, in the world. Authors are very protective of their Characters in the sense that they will not allow another Fate to write or otherwise try to manipulate their creation unless that creation is being co-authored. Do not be fooled; they do not necessarily have a love for the Character as an individual, but as a creator wants to protect their intellectual property. Typically, Authors are loyal to one Archivist, whom they trust to record their Characters and their stories into the Archivist's library. This in turn allows the Author to worry less about losing their older Characters when they create new ones, and keep their work area tidy. Assistant Fates help out either of the other ranks with their duties, and take great pride in doing so. Their social standing is linked with their master, and they are known to shun Assistants of lessor or disgraced Authors or Archivists. Typically Assistants will prefer to work alongside Archivists, seeing them as the most respected class, but to work for a well respected Author is nothing to turn one's nose at, either. They will typically have several Pearlcatcher Assistants. A Snapper does not usually bother with going out and learning of the world themselves, as they have much more important things to do than to get their claws dirty with the creations of the others. Snappers are truly impartial overseers among the Fates, and are highly regarded for their wisdom and foresight. Obelisk: Though not as prized as a Snapper Archivist, Obelisks are still considered high ranking Fates capable of the sacred and all consuming task of keeping track of and making sense of the stories of other Fates. They are commonly more creative than their Snapper counterparts, but not always as detailed. AUTHORS Skydancer: The main Author class of the Fates. Skydancers are known to create a multitude of Characters that they then watch over with a somewhat indifferent eye. They use their scrying pools to check on their Characters, and their very essence is used as ink to write their creations' stories onto their scrolls. They typically have an 'aesthetic', or a particular Character archetype and/or plotline archetype they are best known for. It is not uncommon for them to have a Guardian, Pearlcatcher, or Imperial Assistant. Of the three a Guardian is most likely, and Pearlcatcher is least likely, as they prefer Archivists. Guardian: Another Author class, Guardians are usually less about quantity and more interested in creating a few Characters that they them watch over much more jealously than the other Fates. They can be controlling to the point of having to be reigned in, but treat their creations' stories as their charges and want to make sure that they go about their plots the way the Guardian wrote it out. Some Guardian Fates have their Author status revoked due to being too controlling and will often be charged to help others keep tabs on the latter's Characters as well as generally help with the creation process. When this happens, they are placed on the lowest rung of the Assistant class' social standings. They do not typically want an Assistant, desiring full control of their creations. ASSISTANTS Pearlcatcher: Particularly good at scrying (regardless of being water aligned or not), these Fates typically help Snapper Fates archive the world by using their pearl as a crystal ball. Other Fates must be near their special scrying pool in order to scry, and their scries are typically limited to their own creations. A Pearlcatcher's pride and standing in their society is linked to the regard of their Snapper higher-up. When a Pearlcatcher is assigned to a Snapper, they dedicate their lives to being a loyal Assistant to them. Pearlcatchers may also create Characters, but this is a lessor priority to them. While they will occasionally serve an Author, this is seen as a step down from Archivist. OTHERS Imperial: A jack-of-all-trades Fate. Imperials are known to take on any job and rank depending on their personality. This makes them fairly rare and occasionally looked down upon by Fates who do not like so many variables given to one being. Fae: Another Fate able to take on more than one class, though they do not usually make very good Archivists due to their size. The most common Fae Fate class is Assistant, with a good amount of Authoring on the side. They have been known to simply stick to Author as well, but in that field are more likely to take up co-authoring.

Rules
 1. Please follow the social structure listed above.
 2. All Fates must wear a hood to be counted as a true Fate.
 3. Authors can only write for your lair. Dragons who have been sold/gifted/traded out of your lair can no longer be written for w/o express permission from the new owner. Dragons you have exalted can be written for.
 4. Archivists can only collect the works of your Authors unless another's Author has asked to be archived as well.
 5. It is highly preferred (but not expressly needed) that your Fate have at least a paragraph of info about themselves in their bio. These are lore driven dragons, after all.
 6. Fates cannot have ridiculous names such as 'Babybear' or 'HereComesTheSun'. Any registered Fate with such a name will be removed from the official list, and any hopeful Fate will be denied until the name is changed.
 7. Fates cannot be Fandragons. They must be their own being. The only current exception to this would be if they are based off of your own OC.
Preemptive Q and A

Q: Can *insert headpiece here* be counted as a hood?
A: Maybe, but if not you will have to pick one of the approved hoods, sorry.

Q: Will other breeds be allowed to be Fates?
A: Perhaps as new breeds are added. It's not like I'm picking only my favorite breeds to be Fates. I dislike Snappers but adore Coatls, but according to the lore of the breeds Snappers would make good Archivist Fates, but Coatls don't really fit a Fate role of any kind as of now. Meanwhile Galors would make great Fates, but sadly cannot have Starmap and Constellation genes, so they cannot be Fates. If any of these things change, though, they will be added to the official list. And hopefully over time I will be able to find good roles for other breeds that I would really love to have as Fates.

Q: Can I breed Fates?
A: Currently Fates cannot be officially 'bred' to make more Fates, at least not lore wise. Fates do not have a need to reproduce, and as such any dragon who is a Fate does not have families of any sort as far as their lore is concerned. So no; you cannot say that you breed Fates as Fates, but you can certainly breed your Fate dragons to make more dragons. Keep in mind that this may change in the future if I can think of a good reason for it to.

Q: Are colors/tertiary genes associated with anything?
A: Tertiary genes (and sometimes their colors) are being logged currently with their associations! Please stand by as I come up with these; there are a LOT of tertiary genes!

Q: Why Starmap/Constellation?
A: Fates are ethereal and mystical beings, and no other genes scream that more than Starmap and Constellation~

Ink Fate
#711822

Gene: Capsule

Fate Type: Capsuled Fate/Ink Fate

Most Common in: Authors

Least Common in: Assistants

Traits: One of the most varying tertiaries in Fates, capsule may mean different things depending on its coloration since it is a more corporeal representation of a Fate's essence. It is most common in Authors, typically used as ink. As such, it has more meaning for the characters an Author creates than it has any major significance to the Fate itself. It is not impossible, however, for a Fate to create characters that could also show behaviors from different colors as well, usually with the meanings intertwining in some way. It is very difficult for a Capsuled Fate to create characters outside of their color's meanings, and even attempting it usually still dooms a character to end up exhibiting many of those behaviors.

-Whites: signify a Fate who is more likely to create pure, innocent characters.

-Reds: indicate bloodshed being a core part of the character's story, be it by their own hand or another's.

-Oranges: generally change meaning depending on how much yellow or red is within them, though it typically combines both in varying doses.

-Yellow and golds: show that a Fate's creations are more likely to have the follies of greed, pride, and/or envy, but also have the chance to be very happy.

-Green: characters will have an adventurous spirit and be connected more to the natural order, but can be a bit of a lost soul.

-Blues: a character will be very spiritually linked to unseen forces and is more likely to exhibit unusual powers.

-Purples: like oranges, can have varying meaning depending on the amount of blue and red are within them; the more blue the purple is, the more spiritual the character, while more red purples signify a greater tie to blood in some way.

-Pinks: a character is more likely to be a very social being, even to the point of being very persuasive and captivating to others.

-Blacks: almost always signify that the character will live a harsh life, be it of their own making or others.

-Orca: being as unique as it is, creates characters that are more likely to teeter on the edge of morality and immorality.

Tasmanian Fates usually do not make good co-authors due to their habit of ignoring their fellow writer and coming up with their own plans for characters, but they certainly can create amazing plot twists! This Fate will bounce from one narrative to the other with ease, and never forgets a detail. Their characters, however, have a habit of going rogue and ignoring their Fate's plan for them.
