NEEDS REVISION.] The Den of Sincubus, AKA Wraith's Edge. A lair where even the most hated of dragons can find food, shelter, and acceptance. It can be very rough and tumble, but not every dragon here is an outcast. The entrance to the cave looks like any other you may find in the Starfall Isles; a large yawning maw of earth covered in sharp, glimmering gemstones of pure arcane energy. It's not exactly prime restate: it sits right along the edge of the border to the Scarred Wasteland. This suits the alpha of the lair; Sincubus, just fine, as she is a Mirror dragon, and her lineage comes from the Plaguebringer. Still; the location does mean that there is a lot of upkeep that has to be done to the entrance to keep it looking nice and healthy. In the distance, one can see the Starwood Strand. The interior of the cave has become something of a small apartment building for its inhabitants. Large hallways- decorated with gargantuan crystals of deep blues, mystic purples, radioactive greens and primrose pinks- lead to smaller caves that each dragon living here decorates as they see fit. Deep within the corridors a vast, pristine pool of still water can be found, its streams spreading like veins into other locations within the cave. It is near this pool where the nests for eggs are located. There are three main sections the lair has been divided into: the first belonging to Sincubus and those she tolerates more than the others, the second belonging to the mystic dragons who show an interest in the arcane arts, and the third belonging to the engineers and tinkerers. The secondary sections are the common rooms, which can be found further in the caverns than the living spaces. The largest section here is the dining cave, which is decorated in glowing lanterns and lots of bones from past meals. The other sections are for meeting between the eight factions of those who live here; the Entourage, the Shady Society, the Lunar Legacy, the Stargazers, the Tea Party, the Gentlemen's Club, the Demi Divine, and the Muted Mafia. Each of these areas are private from the other members of the nest. The meeting grounds for the Entourage is perhaps the most plain of these. A massive stone slab has been polished to a perfect sheen in the center of the room, lanterns adorning the ceiling, and bones litter the floor. Large drapes of torn cloth hang from the stalactite to stalactite, ranging in color from black to midnight sky blue. The space set aside for the Shady Society is the largest of the six, due mostly to the pool of water that runs through its center, which takes up most of the space. The room itself is very dimly lit, and most of the light is an eerie glow cast by the ungodly contraptions that hug the far wall of the room. The cavern where the Lunar Legacy gather is perhaps the most stunning to behold. Glowing runes have been etched into the walls and crystal, talismans hang from the ceiling, and floating candles lit with blue and purple flames cast dancing shadows throughout the room. The Stargazer's meeting space is filled with mechanical devices that have been built into the room itself, and shelves have been fashioned from the rock of the walls. These shelves hold a large assortment of tools and strange knickknacks. The Tea Party’s tearoom is smaller than the others, but it makes up for this with its charm. Crystals decorated with glowing flora cast a warm glow all around. Fancy silks are draped from the walls and ceiling, and pristine teacups are set around a round crystal table, which itself is clothed in a flowing tablecloth. The cavern of the Gentlemen's Club is quite similar to the Tea Party's room in size. Warmly colored orbs cast dim glows onto the one large stone table in the center of the room. Natural stone shelves hold bottles of exotic spices and fermented drinks. The private venue for the Demi Divine is the third largest, and is decorated like a Greek villa. Crystals have been chiseled to resemble ornate pillars, and planters have been brought in to house large and neatly kept bushes of glowing flora from Starwood Strand, such as starmoss and starfall blossoms. Drapes cascade down the walls, adding even more grandeur to the room. The Muted Mafia treat their space much like an office; a large slab of obsidian makes up a desk in the far corner of the room. This desk is littered with riches and treasures. Softly glowing lanterns of pale moonlight-esque color bathe the room in an eerie light. Weapons from felled enemies are artfully hung along the walls.

LAIR DESCRIPTION
[ROUGH DRAFT. NEEDS REVISION.]
arcanemid.png

The Den of Sincubus, AKA Wraith's Edge.

The mirror dragon quickly looked herself over with her four eyes; muscles tense, breath ragged. Icy fear coiled around her spine like the body of a serthis. *Dream. Dream. It was just a dream.* she mentally reminded herself, noting in particular her adult size. *They can't hurt you now. Not like that. You're safe.* She carefully got up from her nest, looking around in hopes of grounding herself in reality. The cool colored orbs of light Opallen had made for her cast a gentle glow against the glittering crystals that jutted out from the ceilings and walls. Her bone sculptures decorated the ground, along with the piles of bones not yet made into works of art. Her alpha webwing- Corin- made small cooing sounds in his sleep on his perch just above her. *You're safe. You're in your nest, within your lair, with all of the dragons that have decided to live with you.* She lightly kneaded at the animal pelts that lined her nest. *You're safe...you're safe...you're safe...* "Is everything alright, Sincubus?" a tiny voice whispered. She froze, but relaxed when she realized that she recognized the tone- it was Wraithfire, the fae. He fluttered into the room, coming to rest near her right claw. "It sounded like you were having another rough dream." Despite his monotone voice, Sincubus knew he was worried; his frills were at attention, shivering somewhat with worry. "...I did, but I'm fine." she muttered. "...was it...snakes again?" "...I said I'm fine, Wraithfire." "...Sincubus...it's alright to feel nervous after a nightmare. You know...I used to have nightmares that you would eat me in my sleep." "Then why do you stay with me?" "Because I know you won't. They're just dreams." "..." the mirror looked away, finding something interesting to watch in the colors of the crystals. "Just like you know that no beast will ever get the chance to hurt you like they did when you were little." "..." "I remember when you and I saw a group serthis that one time. Remember? You were so brave then, you know." "...don't patronize me." "I'm not. I mean it. I would have never guessed that you were scared, because you refused to back down or let them hurt either of us." "..." Sincubus dared a glace over at him. Wraithfire's frills vibrated a bit, which she had determined to be something of a smile. He carefully patted her claw. "You scared them off right good. Now they know better than to mess with you." "..." Sincubus sighed, carefully sitting down and loosely wrapping her tail around Wraithfire. "It's not the same." "What's that?" She shook her head, looking down at her black claws. "It won't be the same until I find him. The one who lead the attack on my mother and father." "...I understand. If we ever do find him, we'll make sure he pays." "...he's always there, in my dreams." "I'm sure." "He's monstrous, and imposing...and no matter how fast I run I cannot escape his coils..." Wraithfire listened patiently, seeming pleased she was finally talking a bit about it. "I at least know what kind of serthis he is." "Indeed. a Flamescale Illusionist, right?" "...yeah." "And he had an army of chimera, manticore, and a hydra, didn't he?" "Yes..." "Well...that means he'll be easy to pick from a crowd, at least. If he was the only serthis in his little group. That's quite uncommon. Or, rather...his pack was certainly uncommon. I've never heard of a serthis controlling so many beasts. They tend to be too busy with their own people." "Yes." "But even then...he's likely to be living in Volcanic Vents somewhere. I have always wondered why he and so many other creatures of that place were in the Starfall Isles...it's a bit of a distance." "Doesn't matter. I'm gonna find him...and he's going to pay." "But...perhaps don't let that control your life." "I'll do what I want!" she snapped, putting her head down to his level to snarl at him. Wraithfire did not react. His frills stayed at half mast, eyes gentle and voice calm. "You don't really want that, do you? If you spend your whole life devoted to him, how is that any different from him having taken your life?" "..." Sincubus growled at him, annoyed. "I...hate when you're right." Wraithfire gave a small sound- something between a sigh and a mild chuckle- before placing his face against her snout. "We'll make sure your parents didn't die in vain, Sinci. I promised to be by your side and I never go back on a promise." his frills relaxed as he let out a small cooing sound. "But...do try to also enjoy the life you have...your parents would have wanted that, I'm sure." "...yeah..." she relaxed a little, lying near him. "...yeah...you're right..." He gave another snickering sound. "Of course I am."

He moved with graceful steps, tail swishing slowly from side to side as he made his way down the corridors of the cave. The orbs of mauve, sky, and lime lights that hung from the ceiling and clung to the crystals of the lair lit their path in a magical display; their glow scattered and dancing on every surface. "Perhaps." the black skydancer agreed in a lower voice, looking at his companion. "There are certainly...similarities." The two were alone in the hallway, but they still kept their voices at a hushed murmurer. Occasionally the flaxen dragon would glance around despite the veil over his eyes, making sure they were not being overheard. "Yet they're so dysfunctional..." he scoffed. His wings snapped outwards a bit in a strange display that seemed...unnatural. "They are. But they're still young. I'm sure they'll learn eventually." "Do they have that long?" "..." the smokey dragon shrugged with his wings in response. "I wouldn't know." "And trying to convince them of their youth would be...well you've seen how proud they are." "You're one to talk, my friend." the dark one smirked. "Hey! I've learned from my past." the more brilliantly colored dragon snapped, wings flaring outwards. "But they may not get the chance to." "That is why we're here." "..." the maize one merely nodded, looking ahead now. "The sooner we leave the better." "Oh come now. I'm quite enjoying being a dragon. It's rather fun." "Pah. It's too big for my angelic form and too small for my Ultimatum. I feel caught in between bodies. I'm not even made of aura!" the fair one hissed, "Our wings are only good for flying! I cannot form my weapons and I'm supposed to serve a goddess who doesn't know the first thing about being a true divine being." "I'll disagree on the last part." "Oh? Your goddess any better?" "...they are not like ours, but they don't need to be in order to rule." "Pah." the yellow dragon grumbled again. the dim dragon merely chuckled. "Your pride is showing, old friend." "..." the golden dragon sighed. "I know." "You have to remember; this world isn't like ours. They have evolved differently from us. What was best for our world may not be what's right for theirs. And besides that they're not even the same type of gods as ours. They're closer to Ananta than they are to-" A rock being kicked under armored claws echoed from behind the two dragons. The golden dragon spun around, opening his maw and creating an orb of blinding light between his sharp teeth. The obsidian dragon moved slower; almost casually turning to see what was following them. A pale male skydancer was frozen in a defensive stance behind them, head angled down in a pose of submission. "Forgive me. I did not mean to scare you..." The golden dragon only growled, still ready to fire magic at the eavesdropper. The black dragon, however, smiled a little. "I've seen you around. Storm, isn't it?" "...yes. They call me Storm." The black dragon nodded. "How much of our conversation did you overhear?" "...a bit." "I see." "...please...forgive me. I have just...always been interested in you two. You're not like other dragons...who are you?" "..." the maize dragon closed his jaws, extinguishing the light. "That's none of your business." he growled. "Anik don't be rude." the dark one chided softly. "There's no reason to be worried. Look." The lighter dragon, Anik, seemed to be able to see Storm despite his eyes being covered by the Hewn Philosopher's Veil. "Your tattoo. That's the mark of the shadow goddess." "...it is." Storm nodded. "But you are of light. Like I am." "I am of no god. I May have been born in the realm of the Lightweaver, but she is not my god." Storm muttered. "I would never serve any of the gods here." "..." Anik seemed to relax...but was visibly confused by the skydancer's words. "I'm no fool." Storm growled lowly, pale yellow eyes flat as unpolished ore. Where so many dragons seemed to have a spark of life in their gaze...he had none. It was as though he was utterly disillusioned with his life here. "The gods use us for their own gain. We are not their beloved children. We're their slaves. Blinded by a programmed loyalty. I refuse to be a part of it. I wear the tattoo of my creator's rival to show that I am not loyal to a manipulative dictator like her." Storm snorted a bit. "But do not get me wrong; I have no loyalties to the Shadowbinder either. She's no better." "...I see." Anik considered this for a moment before placing a claw to his own chest. "I am Anik." he then pointed to his companion. "This is my friend Noah." Storm bowed his head in respect. "You...say you're not from here. Where are you from?" "..." Anik and Noah looked over at one another. "Are you gods? From another world? What is your world like? Are gods and their creations more equal there?" "...sort of." Anik finally conceded. "Not at first, mind...but we're working on making our relationship more...balanced." "It's why we're here, actually." Noah continued. "We were sent by our ultimate creator to study and hopefully help this world...and perhaps learn how to further our own growth as well. This place is younger than our home...and we hope to guide it along on its journey." "...please...tell me more." Storm looked at them both, a twinkle in his eyes. A small glimmer of hope. "I...I want to know more about your world. About you...please..." "...let's find a more...private place to chat first." Anik said, turning around. "...and...maybe you should get a snack first. It's a long story..."

"..." the maize one merely nodded, looking ahead now. "The sooner we leave the better."

"Oh come now. I'm quite enjoying being a dragon. It's rather fun."

"Pah. It's too big for my angelic form and too small for my Ultimatum. I feel caught in between bodies. I'm not even made of aura!" the fair one hissed, "Our wings are only good for flying! I cannot form my weapons and I'm supposed to serve a goddess who doesn't know the first thing about being a true divine being."

"I'll disagree on the last part."

"Oh? Your goddess any better?"

"...they are not like ours, but they don't need to be in order to rule."

"Pah." the yellow dragon grumbled again.

the dim dragon merely chuckled. "Your pride is showing, old friend."

"..." the golden dragon sighed. "I know."

"You have to remember; this world isn't like ours. They have evolved differently from us. What was best for our world may not be what's right for theirs. And besides that they're not even the same type of gods as ours. They're closer to Ananta than they are to-"

A rock being kicked under armored claws echoed from behind the two dragons.

I did not mean to scare you..."

The golden dragon only growled, still ready to fire magic at the eavesdropper.

The black dragon, however, smiled a little. "I've seen you around. Storm, isn't it?"

"...yes. They call me Storm."

The black dragon nodded. "How much of our conversation did you overhear?"

"...a bit."

"I see."

"...please...forgive me. I have just...always been interested in you two. You're not like other dragons...who are you?"

"..." the maize dragon closed his jaws, extinguishing the light. "That's none of your business." he growled.

"Anik don't be rude." the dark one chided softly. "There's no reason to be worried. Look."

The lighter dragon, Anik, seemed to be able to see Storm despite his eyes being covered by the Hewn Philosopher's Veil. "Your tattoo. That's the mark of the shadow goddess."

"...it is." Storm nodded.

"But you are of light. Like I am."

"I am of no god. I May have been born in the realm of the Lightweaver, but she is not my god." Storm muttered. "I would never serve any of the gods here."

"..." Anik seemed to relax...but was visibly confused by the skydancer's words.

She's no better."

"...I see." Anik considered this for a moment before placing a claw to his own chest. "I am Anik." he then pointed to his companion. "This is my friend Noah."

Storm bowed his head in respect. "You...say you're not from here. Where are you from?"

"..." Anik and Noah looked over at one another.

"Are you gods? From another world? What is your world like? Are gods and their creations more equal there?"

"...sort of." Anik finally conceded. "Not at first, mind...but we're working on making our relationship more...balanced."

"It's why we're here, actually." Noah continued. "We were sent by our ultimate creator to study and hopefully help this world...and perhaps learn how to further our own growth as well. This place is younger than our home...and we hope to guide it along on its journey."

"...please...tell me more." Storm looked at them both, a twinkle in his eyes. A small glimmer of hope. "I...I want to know more about your world. About you...please..."

"...let's find a more...private place to chat first." Anik said, turning around. "...and...maybe you should get a snack first. It's a long story..."

It had mostly been pushed into the corners of the room and behind the large polished stone desk near the very back of the large subterranean space. The orbs of arcane and alchemic energy that gave all of Wraith’s Edge its light shone its splendor on the hoard, giving it a tempting glimmer. The Skydancer Arabella was currently sitting at the desk, carefully counting a pile of coins in her graceful talons. She recorded her numbers in a scroll as she worked, carefully placing each coin down into a new, semi-neat pile as they were counted. Her lineage as an ice dragon lent itself to her role as accountant in the mafia; she was a master organizer, and cool under pressure. Had she seen her life taking her into organized crime? Not really…but she didn’t dislike having a purpose. And not having to be friendly to every dragon she came across in order to survive. As Arabella counted in her head, she glanced up just briefly to see her boss Spectral make her way into the room. The Coatl’s face was scrunched up in what looked to be annoyance. “Everything alright, boss?” Arabella asked in her understated, somewhat deep voice. “Eh?” Spectral blinked, looking up at her. It didn’t appear that she had known the other dragon had been there. “Oh…yeah. Yeah everything’s…fine. I was just thinkin’.” “Ah.” Arabella looked over her numbers before rolling up the scroll. “Well I have good news and bad news, boss. Which should I tell you first?” “…what’s the good news?” Spectral wandered over to the desk, sitting and picking a few coins from the top of the uncounted pile. Spectral knew Arabella’s methods and knew which piles to not disturb. “The good news is that we are currently 17% beyond last month’s treasure and gem count.” “Oh? That’s great!” Spectral smirked as she snaked the coins through her claws. The smile faded a bit as she looked back at Arabella in anticipation. “…so what’s the bad news?” Arabella pulled out a case from under the desk. Inside was their collection of runes, which was finally complete since yesterday. The Skydancer took the light rune out of the case, then ran a claw over the sigil’s glowing surface. Golden light rubbed off onto her finger. “It’s fake.” “…that awful little…where’s Sirius?!” Spectral hissed indignantly, bearing her sharp teeth. “That sneaky little Spiral…I’m gonna wring his long throat!” “He is currently out of the lair, boss.” Arabella stated, “he won’t be back for a few days from the sound of it. Selling more phony runes, if I had to guess.” “…should have known that dragon would try to trick me…he’ll regret that.” Spectral muttered. Sirius was constantly trying to pull fast ones…but she would make sure he regretted crossing her. No one crossed her. Never. Not without consequences. Spectral felt her blood boil as her mind conjured up visions of that smug serpent’s face smirking in glee at his deception. She snarled, throwing the coins across the room. They clinked, bounced, and rolled on the stone floor before finally careening into another pile along the wall. “Arabella.” “Yes, boss?” Arabella made a small face at the heap, seeming to try to locate the thrown coins in the sea of gold. “Go find Krighton.” “Yes, boss.” Arabella got up, now with a new mission to carry out. “Right away.” Spectral went to sit at the head of the desk as Arabella hurried off to find their muscle. *When I get my claws on that slick wyrm I’m going to tie him into knots…* she thought to herself angrily. *He thinks he can get one over on ME? Head of the Muted Mafia? Ha! He won’t be so bold when we next see each other…* “This a bad time?” Spectral was broken out of her murderous rage by a familiar, musical voice. It was Eden. “Not at all. I’m just plotting murder.” Spectral smirked coolly as the male Coatl came into the room, the many golden accessories he wore making him seem right at home in her personal hoard. “Murder? That seems a bit aggressive.” he chuckled, “What happened?” “Sirius.” Spectral snarled. “Ah. Him.” Eden nodded knowingly, “That…makes sense, honestly. He’s often getting himself in trouble with his trickster ways.” “He sold me a fake light rune.” Eden shook his head. “Yes…that sounds like him, alright. Why do you buy from him? You know he’s a scammer.” “Yeah…but his prices are hard to beat. Plus he usually knows better than to scam me.” “Hm…” Eden considered for a moment before giving a small shrug. “I guess he thought he could get lucky.” “He’ll be lucky if he can fly straight after I have Krighton break his wings.” She muttered. “Ah you…always with the violence!” Eden chuckled. “Yeah well…I’m a mafia boss!” Spectral countered sharply, “It’s not like I can get respect by preaching to people!” “That’s likely why I’m not a mafia boss.” Eden sighed playfully, “I don’t think I could do it.” “Takes a strong backbone, yeah.” “Indeed. A very wrathful one at that.” he teased. “…” Spectral grunted, then gave a small snort. “It’s true, Eden. I’m but a sinful beast. Maybe…” she leaned a bit closer to him, “I need to be saved by a divine dragon.” Eden purred. “I’d be happy to save you from damnation, my dear~” Spectral nudged her snout against his lightly, returning the affectionate throat rumble. “You always know what to say to make me smile, you silver tongued devil.” “Devil?” Eden licked her nose with his forked tongue, “Such unwise words to call a demi-god.” “Why don’t you smite me, then?” she teased. “Maybe I will~” he cooed back. Spectral nuzzled Eden’s fluffy cheek, feeling her worries melt away as he returned the gesture. “…how long do we have to keep us a secret, Eden?” “My darling,” he crooned, “You know I can’t be seen as sympathetic to your sinful ways…” “…I know…I just…” “And what would you underlings think if they saw you on the wing of a goodie-two-shoes such as myself?” “…likely they would have trouble taking me seriously…” she growled, “…though…if they knew just how devious you truly were, perhaps they wouldn’t have an issue.” “Yes…but you know I need to keep up appearances. Just as you do.” Eden placed a claw under her chin, lifting her head to meet his eyes, “If dragons saw you as weak, your empire would crumble, and mine would if I was seen as a monster.” he bumped noses with her again, “It’s hard…but we have to hide our true colors.” “…I know I know…” she sighed, then moved away from his touch, looking down at her own gray feathers. “Color…heh.” “Now now, Spectral. Self-pity doesn’t suit you.” Eden purred. “It’s not self-pity! It’s…it’s just…” “I know, my sweet, I know. To be a coatl with colors such as ours…it’s difficult.” “At least your wings are brightly colored…” Spectral muttered. “Still a bit too pale for some.” He gave a small shrug, “But it hardly matters. I know that my true colors are so much more brilliant than those of my feathers.” He drew Spectral into his torso, burying her in his chest feathers as he purred, “Just as yours are. Such vibrant colors in you…when I look at you…those inner colors are all I can see.” “…” Spectral nuzzled deeper into Eden’s soft chest, considering what he said. “…thank you, Eden…you always know what to say…”

"Father...what is mother like? It seems I never see her..."

Asher lifted his head off of the warm nest of pelts to look down at his spawn. Lyasha looked back up at him, nestled in her father's fluffy tail. "Your mother has more important things to do than look after a whelp like yourself." it was said gently, but there was a level of indifference there Lyasha could pick up on. She had come to expect this of her father, though.

Lyasha's little ears drooped. "Oh..."

Asher sighed, moving his tail closer to himself so that he could gather Lyasha under his massive foreleg. "Don't take it personally, Ly-ly," the pet name had a level of warmth to it that Lyasha always craved from her father, "Your mother is working to expand the influence of the shade.
