Hey friends. We're all here to have fun, and it can be hard when someone doesn't like your ideas, but that doesn't have to reflect on you.
I like the Inlay concept as a general rule for Fae who are off by having 2 different 'metals'. Oxidized, Tarnished, Rusted etc could apply to different metals and people can do research on what best fits which.

Once upon a time, there was a ring of platinum inlaid with silver, priceless and lovely. But it was left in an attic to grow dusty and neglected. Then a bright young hatchling dragon found it. The youngster took the ring to a hatch-parent saying, "It's chipped, but it's still pretty, see!"

The parents, feeling like their hatchling deserved nothing but the best, told the hatchling to forget about the old ring and that they would get them a new one. The hatchling, feeling like the ring they found was some sort of magic treasure, kept it anyway.

Ancient is commonly used more to describe civilizations, cultures, beings, etc - things that aren't tangible.
Ancient seems like it would pre-date even dragonkind.
Vintage doesn't seem old enough :D
