FAQ
I want to register my hatchlings before I put them up for sale!
I ask that people not register hatchlings they're planning to sell. If the dragon ends up breed changed, re-gened, or even exalted, it'll take up precious space on my already crowded registry. I frequently run into problems with the character limit on posts, so I need to make sure the registry only contains actual JBF in people's lairs. Even with periodic purges of exalted dragons, my registry has expanded to need four posts to contain it all! Please help me keep the registry clean by not registering your fresh hatchlings, and instead ask their new owners to register them if they're interested.
Can I post my hatchlings on this thread?
I'd prefer you post them to our
sales thread. This will keep the main thread a little less cluttered, and increases the chance your hatchlings are seen by people who are actually looking to buy.
Is there a pinglist I can join?
On the
sales thread, there is! You may also send requests to specific breeders.
I do not have a pinglist for this thread. I never have any big subspecies updates anyway.
My dragon almost fits the requirements; can it still count?
The short answer is no. The long answer is that you're welcome to use the lore and share your dragon with others on the thread, but any dragon not meeting official subspecies requirements will not go on the front page registry.
Unofficial dragons may be considered an honorary member of the subspecies. This is for non-qualifying dragons who use the lore or are otherwise considered a part of the subspecies by their owner. The last images in the
graphics album can be used to designate these rare finds. However, as mentioned, they won't be featured on the registry post. This "honorary" status is primarily a self-identification and doesn't require or promise any acknowledgement by me, the creator of the subspecies.
If you want to make your non-qualifying dragon an honorary member of the subspecies, you might, however, be interested in the official
unofficial Jewelry Box Fae thread! Or just use the lore on your own, I don't mind at all!
Have you thought about making a variant for [some color/metal]?
Probably! But unfortunately, I won't be accepting any further variant suggestions for this subspecies. Thanks to the wonderful suggestions and work of several enthusiasts, we have a robust list of official variants based on metals found both on the site and in real life, all with a distinct color palette that makes them easily identifiable. Many further suggestions have been made over the years, but we were unable to find something distinct enough from the other variants to make it worth the addition.
If you think you have a great variant idea, I instead encourage you to visit the official
unofficial Jewelry Box Fae thread. I have no direct involvement in that thread so you can hash out the details with fellow enthusiasts who have taken my subspecies concept and made it their own!
Why isn't shimmer/filigree/etc. allowed in the gene requirements?
Shimmer feels too opaque, like laquer instead of a gemstone, and filigree, while an amazing jewelry-like gene, unfortunately lacks the border around the wings that characterize this subspecies.
For reference, here is my reasoning for the allowed genes:
- Crystal and metallic both look like metal bodies
- Facet represents faceted gemstones
- Alloy represents cabochon gemstones
- Bee represents cracked/broken gemstones
- Crackle (and, to a lesser extent, flecks) makes the gem wings look like they've emerged from or are "set" in the metal of the body
Didn't there used to be a "tungsten carbide" variant? Why is it "onyx" now?
I called it tungsten carbide when I needed a name for this popular still-unofficial variant and couldn't come up with anything better. Darksteel was already taken, so I based the name on a dark real-life metal compound. But then, not too long after, onyx seraph jewelry was released. After discussing it with others on this thread, I decided to rename the subspecies onyx. As always, you're free to do what you want with your own dragons, but that's the official variant's name going forward.
