Every Voidling is handcrafted by me. Though they all share a common lineart and shading base, each one is unique in that there will be no reusing and recoloring of preexisting markings: a Voidling's markings will always be hand-drawn and its color selected from my program's color wheel, not swatches. All Voidlings come with the full res version and the downsized version, with and without their serial number. Serial numbers are likely to be their accent color lightened slightly.
Voidlings come with a number of traits and accessories, and in seven base colors which can turn into any hue of the rainbow when combined with Color-Affecting Traits.

Voidling Traits are split into three categories:
Body Traits,
Color-Affecting Traits,
Marking Traits, and
Augmentations. A given Voidling can have one of each of the first three, and any number of Augmentations. All categories of Trait are split into five rarities:
Common 49%,
Uncommon 30%,
Rare 15%,
Super Rare 5%, and
Prismatic 1%.
Prismatic Traits are "hidden" until rolled once, at which point they are revealed.
Body Traits
Common - 49%

[rule]
Voidlings can come with several different Accessories, with a limit of four as to how many they can have-- though if a design becomes crowded, an accessory may be omitted at my discretion. For example, it would be difficult for a Voidling to carry multiple things in its mouth!
Any Accessory can be recolored. Voidcores and Lurelights will match the Voidling's accent color. Glowing accessories may lose their glow when combined with Dimlight, (Total) Melanism, or when it generally looks better.
Prismatic Accessories are "hidden" until rolled once, at which point they are revealed.

[rule]
The form to submit for breeding can be found in the first post.
Although Voidlings are magical constructs, the way in which they were created allows them to have something approximating genetics. As such, they are able to breed, passing down traits and colors in a manner similar to Flight Rising.
Prismatic Traits cannot be passed down through breeding and must be rolled naturally.
[rule]
Breeding Mechanics
Basics
[columns]

[nextcol]
Breeding requires a male and a female Voidling to act as father and mother respectively. How do you tell the difference?
Males have stripes!
Females do not!
[nextcol]

[/columns]
Voidlings can lay between one and three eggs in a nest, and have a seven-day breeding cooldown. One person can only submit a breeding form once per day.
With permission from the other player, a user can breed their Voidling with another user's. In this case, the nest can only consist of two OR four eggs, and both users split the cost and nest, and both go on the one-day cooldown. Which user gets which Voidling is determined at random. If two players breed their Voidlings but only one wants the Voidlings, only that user goes on cooldown.
Color Genetics
Similar to Flight Rising, Voidling color genetics takes the colors of the two parents and selects the range of the shortest distance between the two, favoring clockwise from the father if the range is an even split. At a 10% rate, any given range can rarely produce a White Voidling.
This only accounts for the base color, not any traits. A Neon Blue and a Leucistic Red may produce a Total Melanistic Purple.
If one parent is White, the offspring color will be that of the other parent. If both parents are White, the offspring color is randomly selected. In both cases, the 10% chance of White offspring is kept.

Trait Genetics
When breeding two Voidlings, the exact markings the offspring have will be entirely random and not connected to the way the markings on the parents express. However, since Traits are much like Genes on Flight Rising, those have a chance of being passed down from parent to child.
Color-Affecting Traits are mostly determined at random. If both parents have the same Trait, that Trait has a 50% chance of being passed down. If that chance fails, the Trait is selected randomly by rarity as normal, effectively resulting in a second, smaller chance to have it passed down.

Breeding Mechanics
Basics
|
Breeding requires a male and a female Voidling to act as father and mother respectively. How do you tell the difference?
Males have stripes!
Females do not!
|
|
Voidlings can lay
between one and three eggs in a nest, and have a
seven-day breeding cooldown. One person can only submit a breeding form
once per day.
With permission from the other player, a user can breed their Voidling with another user's. In this case, the nest can only consist of
two OR four eggs, and both users split the cost and nest, and both go on the one-day cooldown. Which user gets which Voidling is determined at random. If two players breed their Voidlings but only one wants the Voidlings, only that user goes on cooldown.
Color Genetics
Similar to Flight Rising, Voidling color genetics takes the colors of the two parents and selects the range of the shortest distance between the two, favoring
clockwise from the father if the range is an even split. At a
10% rate, any given range can rarely produce a White Voidling.
If both parents
have the same Trait, that Trait has a 50% chance of being passed down. If that chance fails, the Trait is selected randomly by rarity as normal, effectively resulting in a second, smaller chance to have it passed down.
Marking Traits are slightly different. These work slightly more like normal Flight Rising genes, with rarities weighed against each other. There is a 50% chance of one of the two parent Traits passing down, with which one being randomly determined by rarity. If that chance fails, there is a 50% chance of gaining a Trait of the same rarity, a 30% chance of a lower rarity, and a 20% chance of a higher rarity. If there is no lower-rarity Trait, that chance goes to the current rarity. If there is no higher-rarity Trait, that chance is evenly split between current and lower rarity.
Body Traits,
Augmentations and
Accessories are rolled independently of genetics and are effectively random.
Ancestry Mechanics
Lineage Trees
To keep track of inbreeding, all bred Voidlings come with an
Ancestry Tree. This is similar to Lineages on Dragon Cave, or Ancestry on Protochroma, in that it displays all of a Voidling's ancestors by their unique serial number as well as their image. This is why breeding forms must show the numbered version of your Voidling's image!
Ancestry Trees are displayed top-down, with the male ancestor being on the left-hand side.
Inbreeding
Though related Voidlings can breed, there are some caveats.
If the closest shared ancestor is within
four generations, it is mechanically considered
inbreeding. The closer that shared ancestor is, the higher chance for the offspring to
lose rarity on their traits. Super Rare traits and a White base color cannot be obtained via inbreeding.
If the closest shared ancestor is five or more generations up, it is no longer considered inbreeding. Siblings and direct ancestor/descendant pairings cannot inbreed.
Artifact Imbuing
Imbuing Artifacts is currently restricted to crafting a Voidling from scratch-- the Mana Shards and various Fragments are destabilized by the breeding process. However, Deimos believes he can make use of this destabilization in another way...

Deimos's Notes
First Contact
My clan typically leaves me to my own devices. I have my own private tower within our territory, itself within the Turrets of Goldensparc. While my clanmates squabble over who should be the leader, why Shade-worship is bad, what recruits to train, I reside in my workshop, generally undisturbed by everyone. I think once or twice Galactica may have stopped by to recruit me, but seeing that I had no interest in the pettiness of politics, she eventually gave up. But she did leave me with a warning-- that my arcane prowess would attract mages of similar caliber and particular sensitivity to magical power.
And, oh, did she truly have no idea.
One day like any other, I was weaving spells and creating small magical familiars, alone in my tower, trying to make these tiny constructs live without my direct input. It was a problem I was struggling with for many months, as a matter of fact. As I was puzzling over the conundrum, a violet glow arose behind me, and I turned to see... a most curious creature emerging from what seemed to be a tear in reality.

It looked around my workshop, seeming inquisitive, before speaking to me in a language I could not understand. For a few minutes as we realized the communication barrier, I observed the creature as curiously as it observed its surroundings.
A dark black body, a sleek frame suited for running, glossy scales that always appeared wet, and a brilliant array of glowing cyan markings that cast the brass structures of my study in a vibrant light. It took particular interest in my experimentation with magical life. As I watched, the creature seemed to understand what I was attempting to do, and... with an intensification of its blue glow and a flurry of magical energy, it fixed my problem for me. The construct, a small crystalline bird, sprung to life without any input from myself and began flying around the workshop.
Somehow it had not only understood the purpose behind my experiments, but also knew exactly how to solve the one flaw that had plagued me for so long. And, as it sat on its haunches and watched the bird soar around the room, it even seemed pleased with itself. So I did what any competent mage would do when faced with this situation.
I captured it.
