Biography

Oreva
When Oreva was a hatchling, she had a vision which granted her a prophecy. The prophecy declared that a young kinsdragon of Screechfang and Skytail with pink fur would save the clan. Everyone assumed it was Ahern, the youngest kinsdragon of Screechfang and Skytail with pink fur, as well as a Stormchild, and this time period probably only added to Ahern's sense of superiority. But the prophecy ended up being fulfilled when Trance sacrificed one of his beloved DJ booth parts to keep the clan's technological infrastructure from collapsing.
The clan heralded Oreva as their savior and a prophet, whose advance warning of danger within the clan allowed for Trance to make such a brave sacrifice (which was quickly resolved by replacing the part with a spare, mitigating the sacrifice, but it still happened). Poxann warned the clan of the consequences of putting so much pressure on such a young hatchling, but that didn't stop them. To them, Oreva was their hero, and she always would be.
But to this day, that has been the only prophecy Oreva has ever received. Yet her clanmates still keep asking for prophecies from her, everything from how a diplomatic meeting will go to what they should make for dinner to potential natural disasters that may impact the clan. But Oreva just can't do it again, no matter how hard she tries. And it isn't for lack of trying; Oreva works constantly to try and force herself to get another prophetic vision. But she just simply can't, and the clan doesn't understand that.
All of the clan's pressure has broken Oreva inside. She's grown anxious and nervous, and clings tightly to anyone who chooses to stay by her side. Yet only her closest friends get to see these inner workings and know how affectionate and loving she is with them; to most of the clan, Oreva presents an aura of arrogance and haughtiness, of being above them. The clan sees this as the energy of a powerful prophet, and so they keep their faith that she will pull through and save them once again. They don't know the real Oreva, and they don't know how broken she is on the inside.
Oreva spends her days in the temple, working with Ravadove and Esequiel to try and trigger more visions, and praying to the Stormcatcher. She is extremely religiously devout, but is getting increasingly jaded. She doesn't understand why he only blessed her with a vision once, why the prophecy was over something so overstated and ultimately petty, and why he won't answer her prayers. But she still keeps praying, and Ravadove and Esequiel keep encouraging her to stay strong in her faith.
There's another reason she spends so much time in the temple, too; Oreva has a massive crush on Purity. She likes the way she smells when she walks past, waving the thurible, and she likes to watch her walk. Purity barely notices that Oreva is a regular at the temple, and even if she did, she would see no reason to take particular note of the acolyte. Yet Oreva still has a crush on her, and hopes to get her attention one day.
Besides the temple dragons, Oreva studies under other, more experienced prophecy-inclined dragons as well. Hysteria is her main tutor. Hysteria's art isn't really prophecy, it's more fortune telling. But she still remains Oreva's primary tutor. She sees great things in Oreva's future, and wants to see them come to pass. Almost every moment Oreva spends outside of the temple, she spends by Hysteria's side. Hysteria has a lot of guidance for Oreva. It's not always relevant, and it doesn't always help, but Oreva appreciates the confidence boost anyway.
Oreva cares a lot about her family, the family of Screechfang and Skytail and their descendants. She cares for all of her extended family members, even those who are hard to love, like Ahern. In fact, Oreva blames herself heavily for the way Ahern is, and tries to be nice to him even when he's nasty back to her. Oreva is in the front row for all of her brother, Eser's, shows, and always laughs and cheers the loudest, even if it ruins the image of herself she wishes to present to the clan.
Of all the members of their massive family, Skytail, Oreva's grandmother, is by far her favorite family member. Skytail refuses to put any pressure on her about prophecies; she knows Oreva is already doing her best, and doesn't care if Oreva never gets another prophecy again. She cares for who Oreva really is, not who the clan wants her to be. And Oreva, in exchange, loves her grandmother dearly, and does whatever she can to help her grandmother out. This isn't much, considering how much help she already has with diplomatic matters, but she still does what she can.
Oreva's devotion to her family, their ancestors and the Stormcatcher has driven a wedge between herself and her parents. She doesn't know for a fact that Cadfael is bad news, but she is definitely picking up that vibe from him, and she hates that Vachel and Selveen are such fervent supporters of him. She's heard some of the things he has said to disrespect her family and their way of life, and she despises him for it. Her parents' outspoken support for him makes her skin crawl, and she has put as much distance between them and herself as possible. Until they denounce Cadfael, Oreva wants nothing to do with them.
There's been a lot of distance between Oreva and Ahern ever since the prophecy was proven to be about Trance and not Ahern. But Ahern, clinging to the idea that he could still be important just by existing, has proposed a theory. What if Oreva hasn't gotten another prophecy...because the first one never came true? They never received any sort of a sign that Trance's petty sacrifice saved the clan and fulfilled the prophecy. Of course, Ahern only says this because he wants there to still be a chance the prophecy is about him, but this theory is eating away at Oreva. Because if that wasn't the event that saved the clan...then what could it be? And will she finally be able to receive new prophecies if the foretold event comes to pass?
