Biography
Thistiel
The Gemologist
|
Thistiel was always a rather curious explorer, as a hatchling, he'd often flee his home clan in order to explore the surrounding area, and see what he could discover, often to return home to hear an earful of his mother. "You are weak and fragile, El", she'd say, "If you're going out, at least take one of your brothers". Except he never did. He very quickly got quite fond of crystals he'd find in the Starfall Isles, many of which were quite literally full of magic. Soon, he was spending more time surrounded by rocks, crystals and gems than his own clan, his own family. One day, he showed back home to have dinner with them, only to never return. It wasn't that Thistiel disliked his family, on the contrary — he absolutely loved them, but the calling of the outside world was too strong to ignore. Still, being surrounded by papers in the grass of Starfall Isles was not enough, he had more to discover, and while he loved crystals, he craved for more, to continue exploring and seeing the world with his own eyes, to see the wonders of each possible place he could find, see the world. And so, he began his exploration, his world travelling project. He first went to Dragonhome, where he thrived, the history of the place was a wondrous thing that Thistiel loved, many of which he — a mere little fae that grew up in a secluded clan that lived in a secluded tree in a secluded part of the Isles — never knew about, his family too lazy or closed minded to explore and learn the world around them. And yet, it wasn't enough, he continued on his travels, the Scarred Wasteland, Tangled Wood, Viridian Labyrinth, the Sunbeam Ruins, the Shifting Expanse... and, well, that's when he was struck by lightining, or shocked, he didn't really know, all he knew is that he fell unconscious. Only to wake up hours later, a cozy fire by his side, as well as a fellow fae, a green one at that, clad in a warrior's garment, sharpened claws and a roughed up physique, she looked like she could snap him — a meek, fragile little thing — like a twig. And while he gawked at her, his eyes sparkling, she noticed his awakening, turning to look at him and smile, something faes didn't do often, her expressions coming more from her face rather than her frills — like any other dragon other than a fae, "Jeez, whatcha staring at?" she'd ask, and it took him a second or two for him to realize what she had asked him something. He fumbled, his face blank as his frills flared and twitched and did all sorts of things the frills of an awkward, shy little fae confronted with the most beautiful creature he'd ever seen would do. And his reaction was met by laughter. "Name's Iris" she'd say, barely focusing on him, her aura emanating confidence and a very small air of superiority, she was roasting them some bugs, he'd realized, "You look lost, what's your name, pipsqueak?". He blinked, taking a deep breath before he finally got over himself and answered. "... Thistiel, I'm Thistiel". And that was the start of an amazing friendship, the two of them travelling throughout the remaining places Thistiel hadn't yet visited. At every stop, he'd tell Iris about the place's history, and their local gemology, and even if it was a topic as boring as rocks, Iris would always hear him out, in return, she'd tell him about hunting — the intricacies of the local wildlife, the art of battle and war. They couldn't be more different, and yet so similar. Soon, they were nuzzling into each other when the climate got colder, keeping one another warm, they'd hold hands and watch the sunset together. They went to the Sea of a Thousand Currents, Ashfall Waste, Southern Icefield, and then finally... the Windswept Plateau. Where it was finally decided was where they would make their home, the start of a new clan. They started slow, essentially sleeping together in an abandoned den on the ground, but soon they were building their own dens and caverns, at which point a stuck up coatl showed up to insult their architecture work, which left more than there was to be desired. After days of watching and insulting, the coatl, Borealis, decided to help, and make his home there too. One day, Iris was bold enough to ask Thistiel to be her mate — even though, in technicalities, they had been mates for a long time by then — to which he happily accepted. Now, their clan thrives, large enough to be considered a small town even. Thistiel had a quite large hoard of crystals, gems, geodes and whatnot in the back of his home den, a collection he was quite proud of. Many dragons would visit him, ask him about the crystals, and soon the little clan became home to many scholars, and with that came warriors to protect said scholars. The clan expanded into large buildings, that spiraled from islet to islet, all possible thanks to the efforts of Borealis — who was kind enough as to not make the whole thing crumble on purpose — and those who came to help the Archives grow. And that's what they were now... a small town, and the Archives, deemed the Nova Archives. His hoard of crystals no longer hidden in the back of a den — but safely secluded in his room, which was nothing short of fancy, riddled with silks for him and fur of beasts for Iris. It was a whole accomplishment he never deemed possible when he was but a hatchling fleeing home to look at pretty rocks. And that's when finally, after so many long years, he decided to fly back home and reconnect with his family. |

✧ Plume ✧
Pet owl
He found her whilst looking for gems in Starwood Strand. Back then, she was just a baby covered in gem shards that had lost her way to the nest. He tried, but couldn't find any nests or fellow Charoite Owls around, so he decided to take her in. She grew to be larger than expected, once being able to perch on his head when she was a baby, now she is almost as large as him. Too often did he wake up to her sitting on top of him demanding food. She is pretty much still a very large baby. Plume helps Thistiel in his scavenging outings, often returning glistening with crystals and gems.

Did you know?
While there aren't any mushrooms that look like crystals, which is a shame... There are, in fact, mushroom rocks? We'd like to think this means mushroom geodes are possible! |
