Biography
Kliment
Divantae knows more than any other dragon that he will not be able to continue writing as he does forever. His ligaments are quickly giving out as a result of near-constant writing and annotation for years upon years, and soon, he will lose the ability to write altogether. He spent many years searching for an apprentice, someone with the same appreciation for history, respect for clan rules, and ability to write quickly and annotate dictations as he holds.
Finally, he found those traits in the young son of Justiciar and Snowshine: Kliment. From a very young age, Kliment has been stuck like glue to Divantae’s side, absorbing all the tips and tricks and lessons that his mentor has to share with him. If one goes through the Hall of Records and looks at the parchment over time, one would see the gradual introduction of Kliment’s handwriting as Divantae allows him to take up more and more responsibility, and even do an entire day’s inscription by himself.
Kliment holds the traits that Divantae had been searching for: appreciation for history, respect for clan rules, and writing ability. But as he aged, he also gained additional traits which Divantae has found himself frustrated by: namely, impatience, questioning authority, and when it comes down to it, insubordinance. Kliment is happy to follow the rules when he understands why they exist. But there are many rules that he doesn’t understand the reasoning behind — Most applicably, why do the clan records have to be written down by hand? Where is the “by hand” part written down in the clan rules? Why can’t “recording to the fullest extent” be digitally?
In a new era of technology, Kliment wishes to apply the new inventions of his time to the workload of his elders, and his older brother Cadfael has urged him on in this regard. Kliment frequently stays up late transcribing the records for the day into type, slowly but surely. Yecord would never let him live it down if he didn’t turn in a handwritten record for the day, but until he can win over the recordskeeper in this respect, the least he can do is make sure a digital version exists.
Kliment is determined to one day make sure an entirely digitalized version of clan history exists, no matter what his mentor Divantae might have to say on the topic. After all, Kliment has Cadfael’s entire legion of followers on his side — and when the revolution comes and the ways of old are abandoned, everyone will appreciate Kliment for this work.
