A colored sketch portrait of an Undertide dragon. She has a purple body with grey spots on it, and pale purple fins. Her eyes have a spiral pattern in them, and blue crystals grow out of her at various angles.
Hydrae’s oldest child, Thuban, never seemed interested in power and ambition. Her parent spoke about these topics regularly, yet Thuban always seemed to care more about exploring, stargazing, or sketching. They were never particularly close to their sibling, Eltanin, who seemed much more invested in Hydrae’s endless lectures. Still, Thuban cared for their sibling, even if the feeling didn’t seem to be mutual.

However, only a few days after Thuban’s hatching, her body began to transform. Her scale patterns and eyes were shifting, and many of her Skydancer traits were replaced by Undertide ones. Hydrae simply chalked this up to a flaw in aer alchemy recipe that caused Thuban and Eltanin to exist. Feeling almost betrayed that her parent wasn’t concerned about her, Thuban began to wonder if she belonged somewhere else in the world.

It was on the final day of her metamorphosis into an Undertide that Thuban overheard Hydrae talking to Eltanin about aer master plan, which involved mind control. Deeply concerned for the city of Waterdeep, Thuban raced out to the balcony of their apartment, where she saw a shooting star pointing toward the city. Interpreting this as a sign from Elistraee, she flew away and never looked back.

Thuban spent the next several months warning anyone who would listen about Hydrae’s mind control abilities, and the danger ae could pose to the city. Most dragons didn’t listen, and the only one to take her warnings seriously was Vida of the Blackstaff Tower. After telling the pearlcatcher all that she knew, Thuban fled the city, choosing to reside in the waters nearby. She would be close enough to warn newcomers, but not close enough to be found.

Eventually, Thuban met Pluma, a fellow Undertide. He was quiet and calm, and he shared her love of exploration and maps. During this time, crystals had begun growing out of her, and Pluma’s reassuring presence helped tremendously, as he’d also experienced strange side effects after his transformation.

After some time the two were married, and had two nests of little eggs to call their own. Wanting to raise them, but knowing it would be too dangerous to keep them in Waterdeep, as Hydrae could find them, Thuban and Pluma made the heavy decision to give their children up, hoping someone else could protect them instead.
The words 'The Avariels' are written in large sunset-color text.
