Biography

The Rook of Thorns
Night falls and shadows rise. Nightforest has spent an uneventful Brightshine taking the clan's older prisoners to the furthest border and throwing them elsewhere and stalking Wardite to make sure he isn't up to any mischief. * Nightforest has no opinion on the sandsurge, though the fact that they worry Liglanaerr worries her. She has set about reinforcing the floor of her gaol with metal slabs. |
|
Nightforest is not herself one of the clan-leaders. Rather, as the largest of the clan's dragons, she serves as the bodyguard of the council's less-skilled warriors, especially Liglanaerr, and their warden, meting out punishment to the rare dragon that requires more than a stern cuff from one of the mirrors and keeping visitors from rival clans in line. She is a creature of shadow as well as Ice, like a moonless winter night, and quite at home at the skydancer's back. Silent and reserved, Nightforest is in actuality rather shy. Where dragons do not fit neatly into trusted senior clan-members or distrusted visitors or prisoners, she is uncertain of how to interact with them. She is almost always on duty, but on the odd times she leaves, she often returns to the border forests to meditate. Most dragons never interact with Nightforest closer than her official role. She is, however, close with her aunt, Spearmint, and will happily listen for hours to the mirror's talk of strange aquatic worlds and their denizens. She and Sprucetip also have much common ground. Liglanaerr seems to host some sort of supernatural bond with her, and refers to her upon occasion as the "Rook of Thorns", though she has never explained what that might mean. Craft Nightforest is not one of the clan's more artistic dragons, but she does enjoy producing carvings. Most are simple and temporary, carved in bark or soft stone by claw while she sits in council meetings or watches over her prisoners, but she has helped put some reliefs of the clan's history in their growing common areas. Physical description Nightforest is massive even by ridgeback standards, larger even than the clan's imperials. She is evenly-proportioned, with huge vulturine wings spanning wider than all but Henhowl. In addition to her long dorsal spines, she bristles with tiny, pine-needle-like spinelets like a covering of fur. Luminescent fungi grow in clusters along her length. She moves purposefully in open land, and very carefully in the confines of the clan's lava tubes and built structures, and has a soaring flight with a notable dihedral. Her scent is strongly reminiscent of the Tangled Wood. Combat Nightforest is an intimidating force on the battlefield, lunging into the heart of conflict with no apparent regard for her own safety and laying about with savage claw-strikes. Most physical opponents are quickly overwhelmed looking for an opening on her thorny hide, though she remains vulnerable to anyone who can strike from afar. |
|
Origin Like several of Cindercone Clan's dragons, Nightforest came from Northslope Clan, the clan's closest ally. She came to them as a hatchling, and transformed into a ridgeback during their first Mistral Jamboree. |
|
Kin Nightforest is the daughter of Muskeg and Undara of Northslope clan. She is therefore a niece to Moonfire and Sprucetip, and Hedysara, and cousin to Tarandrus through her father, and niece to Spearmint on her mother's side. |

Familiar
Nightforest is accompanied on her duties by a faint phantom that vaguely resembles a tundra dragon. Shadow dragons can more accurately discern that the creature is a peryton. They are closely bonded, and the notion that Nightforest's gaze can come from the nearly-invisible creature is enough to give most rabblerousers pause.Click or tap a food type to individually feed this dragon only.
