One day at the beach when he was a hatchling, JalapenoPoppers's parents lost their focus on him. As a curious little guy, he wandered off and went for a swim. There was one problem, he had no idea how to get back on land. The tide pulled in the bogsneak and he tried screaming for help, but he was too far away for anyone to hear. When his parents caught attention of the situation, their hatchling was out of reach.
Suddenly, a banescale swooped down from the sky. His claws fastened onto the bogsneak and carried him back to shore. After returning JalapenoPoppers to his parents, the banescale introduced himself as Hail. The two had gotten to talking; the young banescale had said he was going to be a surfing instructor when he grew up. Before the two dragonets departed, Hail gave the little bogsneak a necklace that allowed its wearer to summon an orca that could be ridden on.
After being saved by Hail, JalapenoPoppers was inspired to save lives just like he did. As a fully-grown dragon, he learned to swim and master using his orca necklace to do his job well as a lifeguard.
