You travel deeper into Codex’ lair after meeting Garff. Just a bit further down below, you find another one of Codex’ accomplices. A very striking Coatl, who probably stands out everywhere she goes. She is humming an unfamiliar song, very out of tune though, as she puts away some very expensive looking stuff into a safe. That safe is probably the cleanest thing in this entire room, the Coatl obviously takes good care of it. She catches you looking at her and closes the safe, not at all worried that you might steal something. “Well hello there dear guests! Codex told me you would be arriving soon. Welcome to my humble abode within our base of operations!” She’s… She’s very dramatic. You introduce yourself, and after a quick pause, remember that these dragons can actually see me, and introduce me too. “Good to meet you both, my name is Yafu.”, the Coatl replies. “Please allow me to give you a tour of this place!”
Of course, you happily agree. And Yafu gestures grandly towards her safe. “This here is my mighty safe!”, she exclaims. “It is filled to the brim with exotic and expensive items that I have acquired over the years. I’ve got quite the collection.” You wonder how she ‘acquired’ those items, but decide to compliment Yafu on the pristine state of her safe instead. She starts beaming in response. “Thank you for noticing my hard work! Codex often tells me that I should put as much effort in cleaning the entirety of this area, but he never acknowledges how much work I put in keeping the safe clean!” Codex is probably right, the amount of dust on these tables and shelves doesn’t look too healthy. Not that you’re going to be the one to tell her that though. If she doesn’t even listen to her boss… What use would it have? You then ask her how her collection got this big. Yafu’s big smile turns into a grin that tries to be wicked, but really isn’t. “I stole every last piece of it.”, she says. You aren’t even remotely surprised. Well, maybe a little. Because, wouldn’t she stand out way too much, looking like that? You ask Yafu about it, and in response the Coatl puffs her feathers out. “I would if I was an ordinary thief! However, I am the greatest pickpocketer around! Codex didn’t recruit me for nothing, you know!” Well, that’s probably true too. “Besides being an amazing thief, I also know exactly what to steal to get the expensive and otherwise valuable items.”, Yafu continues, obviously proud of her talents. Well, that you’d like to see. So, you ask her if she has some items in her collection that she’s especially proud of. Yafu immediately opens up her safe again. “Want to see some for yourselves?” Over the next hour or so, Yafu goes over her most prized possessions. Well, they’re her possessions now, anyway. She pulls out a plethora of exquisite pieces. You’re personally very interested in what Yafu describes as an engagement ring that has been cursed by the wife after the husband left her at the altar. “We actually took a good look at it, and it’s really cursed! But only for those from the bloodline of the husband.”, Yafu explains. “It’s completely safe for us to hold, but the enchantment might still be useful for us.” My favorite is a little floral brooch, with one petal that slightly glows. “While you probably notice the glow of the left petal immediately, you might not notice that it is also made of a completely different material.”, Yafu says. “It seems that this one petal is made of a kind of enchanted gem, though we are not sure what gem and why. It’s also uncertain why only one petal was made out of this material, but it’s very striking.” And it’s true, it’s incredibly striking. In fact, Yafu’s entire collection is stunning. Every piece is not only expensive, but also beautiful and most certainly magical in one way or another. As Yafu finishes her presentation and closes the safe again, you compliment her on it. It’s a sincere compliment, because while she has stolen all of these items, she has a great eye for value. It’s honestly impressive. Yafu grins widely. “Thank you very much, good sir! I’m glad that you too can see the value of my talents!” You thank Yafu for her time, and wish her good luck in her next conquest. “Thank you for your attention, both of you.”, Yafu replies. “I will notify you when I find something new!” You tell her you can’t wait. And neither can I. |
