Codex has agreed with you meeting his accomplices, somehow, so you descend further into the graverobber’s den to find a Mirror sitting in the middle of a circle of rats. He is happily feeding them fruits and nuts, with one rat sitting on top of one of his wings, nibbling on a grape. You give him some time to finish the feeding session before you start talking. The dragon looks up at you with a big, genuine smile. “Hey, are you two new recruits?” Oh yeah, they can see me too here. You explain that we are not joining the team, but that we are going to help out where we can, and the Mirror smiles even brighter. “That makes you part of the crew for me! Welcome! We do not have a team name yet, but I’m sure we’ll come up with something.” You’re not quite sure if Codex would like a ‘team name’ but decide to let it slide. Instead, you introduce us. “Nice to meet you both! My name is Garff. Also this is Bruno.” He points up towards the rat on his wing, who has finished eating his grape. “The others have already dispersed, but don’t worry about them, they’re pretty self-sufficient.” Indeed, all the other rats have disappeared, but they’re just little creatures, so there’s not a big problem. Probably.

Garff shows you around his workplace, and there are loads of interesting things here. An entire city of rat houses adorns the walls, and on the shelves and desks that are scattered around the room there’s a plethora of beautiful gems and minerals. And strangely enough, a bunch of letters and drawings, in all kinds of styles. You ask about the gemstones first, and Garff happily replies. “Me and the rats found all of these! I’ve trained them to sniff out valuables and we store our riches here!” You’re quite surprised and impressed to learn that Garff has taught an entire pack of rats to steal, and you tell him so. “Aw, shucks. Thanks man, I really appreciate it.”, the Mirror replies. “I just really think that all life is intelligent, you know? And I hope that my rat training will show that to the rest of the world!” You wonder if you should show this to the outside world. Maybe the team could use it? You ask if Garff has any tips in training rats. He thinks about it for a moment, then replies: “You gotta start while they’re still young, you know! Also, they work way better in a pack than alone, like us dragons do too. Make sure you have a good amount of rats, I’d say at least ten.” You thank Garff for his advice and promise to spread the word of rat intelligence. He is practically beaming.

Then you finally ask about the letters and drawings. And Garff starts beaming even more. “These are from loads of citizens!”, he tells you. Garff grabs a pile of papers from a nearby desk and pulls out a drawing that uses only the most colorful crayons. “This one is from Marbles, she drew my rats!” As you inspect the piece of art, you can clearly see rats, quite a lot of them, and all in different colors.” Garff pulls out a letter, written in beautifully cursive font. “This one is from Pixie, he has such good handwriting.”, he tells you. You nod, as an author, you wish your handwriting was this beautiful. “Dragons send me letters and drawings from all over the city.”, Garff says. “I get along with the citizens just fine really. And the ghosts, well most of them anyway. Even the orphans who everybody knows aren't actually orphans.” You ask him how that happened, since obviously Codex is quite the secretive man. “Yeah, the boss is super sneaky. I’m good at stealing and sneaking too, but I never steal from the citizens so why would I act suspicious?”, Garff replies. “I go into town, have fun, and be social. And that makes others like me a lot, I think. Just showing my mug around there, you know?” You nod, noting that the citizens usually really enjoy just talking to you and that you made quite a lot of friends already. “Yea, I knew you would get it!”, Garff replies, smiling. “You come across as such a great guy, Oscar. I’m happy to have you in the team!” You smile back and thank him, noting that you would love to see him handle the rats one time. “I will totally invite you for a rat heist next time we are doing one!”, Garff assures you. “Not sure if the little lady would like to join us, but she’s invited too.” I nod my head heavily, so heavily that some flowers lose a petal or too. Garff picks up the petals and gives one to Bruno, who immediately starts eating it. “Ah look, I knew it! Bruno only eats sweet things and I knew you were a sweetheart from the moment you walked in!”

I have never felt so warm and happy in my entire life.
