You approach the Coatl with caution. This is not a gentle dragon, and you know it. This is a dangerous one, one that knows a lot. Maybe even too much. But he has agreed to meet with you, so you should be somewhat safe, at the very least. He doesn’t acknowledge you though, so after a moment of silence, you decide to speak up and tell him that he is a hard one to track down. Codex looks up at you with a smolder unmatched by anyone else. “Not too hard though, otherwise you wouldn’t be here.”, he replies with a voice that is deep and silky. You feel shivers running down your spine. Because he’s dangerous, of course. “Come, sit. Let me make us some tea.”, Codex beckons. You sit down almost too fast. The Coatl walks away to make tea and you sit in absolute silence for way too long before he returns with a pot of tea that smells exotic. Exquisite. “Don’t drink it yet. Drinking tea too hot is dangerous.”, he tells you. You tell him that ‘hot and dangerous’ are two adjectives you tend to gravitate towards. He looks at you for a couple of seconds, then chuckles. Did you just flirt with the dangerous criminal?

“You seem to get along with the citizens just fine, despite being a late arrival.”, Codex says calmly. Despite his calm demeanor he is studying you, looking for a reaction. You tell him that your experience in journalism has equipped you with certain social techniques that tend to get you close to almost anyone. Why did you just tell him that? You’re oversharing! He does seem impressed though. Codex nods, without taking his eyes off of you. “The veil is less… thick here. We can sometimes see the outside, even if we should be too old for that.”, he says. “I know you came from outside, just like your little sidekick here.” You stare at me, shocked that anybody is actually able to see me. I am just as shocked, really. “Don’t worry, I’m not going to do anything with that information, it isn’t of any use to me.”, Codex continues matter-of-factly. You ask Codex how he figured out that the city is closed off from Sornieth. “The ghosts here seem to have a curious alliance with the ‘orphans’. I have heard them talk about it quite a lot.”, he replies. “It explains a lot, really. My subordinates might not be smart enough to notice it, but I have been counting sunsets. And you’re not supposed to lose count of them.” You ask Codex if he knows how long he has been in the time vacuum. Codex only shakes his head in response. “You’re forgetting your tea. You too, little one.” I only now notice that there’s a small cup of tea in front of me.

After finishing your tea, you dare ask the one question that’s been on your mind. What is Codex after? Codex snorts. “I will tell you, only if you keep me updated with how things are going in the outerworld.” You agree immediately, a decision you should probably think through, but how bad could it possibly be? “Good, good.”, Codex says with his smooth and silky voice. “Apparently, there’s a tomb here that holds at least one of the scientists responsible for this vacuum.” Your mouth falls wide open at that news. “I see you understand the worth of that.”, Codex replies. You nod, noting that it might be what the team outside needs to fix this whole situation. “They think it can be fixed?”, he asks, and you admit that it’s wishful thinking. Though you do believe that at the very least, the team wants to try and open communications between Cermestro and the outside world. Codes muses it over for a moment. “I’m happy I agreed to meet you today.”, he then says. And you start beaming. “Obviously, we can help each other.”, Codex continues. “Also you’re quite the cutie.” You go red in your entire face and Codex looks at… At me? “Sorry kid, I’ll leave all the other flirting for later.”

You immediately tell him, a bit too loud and enthusiastic for your own good, that you would love to meet up again. To discuss this time vacuum thing more, of course. Codex only laughs at that. You’re a really bad liar suddenly, Oscar.
