The Mother of Death
Cheshyre - Anesthetize
╰━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━╯
The mother of one of the, if perhaps not the most infamous assassin in Sornieth. Hank J. Wimbleton didn't just spawn out of nowhere, after all, no matter how much some seem to believe he has. Rhapsody is a somewhat aloof and sarcastic dragon, but by no means is she rude. She can be quite warm and jovial, in fact; it's just a matter of how fake that jovial warmness is, and to what end she is using it. She's very in control of her emotions, and careful about which ones she shows in what situation. Her charge is her mate, Lawrence, which she has known from a very young age; they grew up in the same clan, after all.

Even though Rhapsody Wimbleton wasn't exactly present for very long, she still is Hank's mother, and the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. She is... vaguely aware of what Hank has been up to, that he has managed to become infamous, but she doesn't know the finer details of it. Or most of the details, actually. She only gets to hear his name occasionally drop from one of the fellows in the Survivor's Camp, after all, and how would she know that they are talking about her Hank?

It's not like Rhapsody's a killer like Hank, though; she and Lawrence simply weren't the most well-liked dragons in the world, thieves as they were. She's not bad in a fight, and she'll do what's needed; her trusty crossbow isn't for show, after all, but Rhapsody isn't a killer.

Rhapsody is a survivor.

And as much holds true in Purgatory, as bizarre is it seems.

Before the death of her and Lawrence, they travelled across Sornieth, always looking for the next trinket to steal, the next treasure to plunder, the next rich guy to rob. They weren't exactly infamous like Hank is now, but they definitely weren't unknown either. People knew of their doings, but not necessarily of them; they were pretty good at covering their tracks, after all. They never stayed in one place for too long, and never made themselves more present in a community than they needed to be. They simply were around, until they weren't, and some of the clan's valuable belongings were gone along with them.

They didn't nest very often either; hatchlings were a liability, something they couldn't afford to take care of when they were always on the run. Safety was far and few between, and what little broods they did have, were often purely accidental. She doesn't consider herself a bad mother, necessarily, but she only takes care of her brood until they are old and strong enough to take of themselves, after which she and Lawrence leave, and never return.

Hank's brood happened to be one of those accidental ones.

On the way through the Molten Scar towards Cinderslag, looking for a new clan to plunder, Lawrence and Rhapsody were forced to stop and nest- 5 eggs, a lot of future young brats to take care of, and right before they made it to Cinderslag too. The landscape proved too dangerous to move on with 5 eggs in tow, and thus, Lawrence and Rhapsode decided to stay in the little safe spot they'd carved out, guarding over the eggs that would soon become hatchlings.

It would just so happen, then, that the little safe spot they'd carved out, was right in the path of an earthquake.

It was unfortunate; 3 eggs were lost in the chaos as their little cave on top of them. Of the two left, only 1 would hatch, the other dead from the start.

And that hatchling would be Hank J. Wimbleton.

Things looked up for a little after Hank was born; he was a fierce hatchling from the start, breathing flames and keeping up with Rhapsody's steps, even though she was so much bigger than him. He was a talkative little child, eager to learn, and eager to watch his parents. He came with them to Cinderslag, where they settled into a nearby clan, the parents intent on laying low until the little Hank was grown. They took jobs as miners for Cinderslag for the time being, if only to gain the trust of the clan.

Not long after they settled, a mine collapsed.

And moments later, Rhapsody woke up inside Purgatory with Lawrence.

They had died. That much was clear.

While both of them were confused at first, perhaps even scared of what was happening, it didn't take long for them to get used to the peculiar landscape of Purgatory. They wondered what became of their little Hank, but often were too busy just trying to survive.

As they always did.

Rhapsody was always rather smart; she was quick to figure out Purgatory eats away at you. That it exists to let your soul waste away, perhaps even to recycle it for another life. That Purgatory tries to drive you crazy, tries to speed up the process that way.

But just giving in never was Rhapsody's style, and neither was it Lawrence's, and, well.

Purgatory has loopholes.

All it takes is someone determined enough to take advantage of those loopholes.

Rhapsody wouldn't ever have thought that she and Lawrence would be the ones to create a village- a clan of sorts, of their own. It took some help from a much, much older being, one that had roamed purgatory for far longer than they, but somehow, the managed it. A little safe spot, where those who were determined enough would eventually end up, should they wish to escape the inevitable curse of Purgatory eating away at them. It wouldn't be wrong to call her the primary leader of the camp either with her commanding presence, but she and Lawrence hold equal power in the decision making. It's just that others are more likely to listen to a giant guardian than a medium sized mirror, especially in a place like Purgatory.

The Survivor's Camp is cleverly hidden, and even Retainers struggle to find it, because it, just like Purgatory, is confusing and chaotic in nature, its location changing on a whim. It is inside Purgatory, yet outside of its sphere of influence, somehow. Rhapsody isn't always sure how it works, but it sure works.

She and Lawrence are just simply doing what they have always been doing; surviving.
