The Father of Death
Locknar - Brimstone
╰━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━╯
The father of Hank J. Wimbleton, and, alongside his mate, Rhapsody, the leader of the Survivor's Camp in Purgatory, as much of an oxymoron the idea of "survivors" in the land of the dead may be. Lawrence is somewhat on the quieter side, but he'll definitely make it known if he is displeased with something or someone. He can be a little impulsive with his decisions, but this has also contributed to him becoming a very quick thinker. Before his death, Lawrence used to enjoy decorating himself with jewelry, but being in Purgatory has made such things difficult, and he doesn't bother anymore. It isn't worth anything here, anyway. Being Rhapsody's charge and mate, he is very rarely seen without her.

Lawrence F. Wimbleton did want to do right by Hank when he hatched. A thief he may be, but he does care about his own brood, and Hank's particular nest had already been such a tumultuous experience. Outside circumstances (see: dying in a mine collapsing), however, prevented him and Rhapsody from parenting Hank, which left the hatchling to fend for himself, and eventually grow into the killer he ended up being. He is only barely aware of what has become of Hank; he knows his son is somewhat infamous, at the very least, and a mercenary, but other than that, he doesn't know much. He can't be too mad about Hank being a criminal; he's a thief too, after all, and it's not like he hasn't killed before.

That being said, Lawrence isn't a killer. He's a survivor, and he'll do anything to do just that.

Even in Purgatory.

When he and Rhapsody first died, they weren't sure what to do. They didn't appear to need food or water, and sleep, while enjoyable, seemed optional too. That didn't mean they never grew tired or weary, they just recovered energy quicker than they were used to.

It was Rhapsody who first figured out that Purgatory, however slowly, was eating away at them. At their memories first, and if the other poor suckers they saw were any indication, eventually their bodies would go, too.

That wouldn't do. Lawrence didn't come this far just to rot away into nothingness. What good was an afterlife if it simply meant slowly withering away? Why have an afterlife at all? Lawrence wouldn't have any of it, and neither would Rhapsody. It wouldn't be their style, to just give in and let nature take its course with their lives. They always got what they wanted in the end, they didn't become thieves for no reason, and this wouldn't be any different.

Easier said than done, of course. Neither of them had any idea on how to achieve it, and they could feel some of their memories fading already. Their sanity was on a timer, and they needed to find a way to prevent it from getting worse. It seemed dire, but they were determined to find a way.

And, well, Purgatory does have loopholes, for those who care to look.

And look Lawrence and Rhapsody did.

After what seemed like weeks (months? time in Purgatory didn't seem to be very stable... if it even existed at all), they struck gold. Another dragon, who had been around in Purgatory for so long that they'd been there longer than they had been alive, without losing their mind or their body, without getting eaten away at by the chaotic dimension of Purgatory. With their help, Lawrence and Rhapsody were able to find those loopsholes; small hotspots, where Purgatory's influence ended. Objects that warded off the unbearable presence of Purgatory, spells to speak them into action.

[DRAGON NAME] was a strange dragon, but they did help them out, and while they didn't stick around with Lawrence and Rhapsody, occasionally, they will visit them, bringing others who are determined enough to push through Purgatory. Even though it started as just the two of them, soon, Lawrence and Rhapsody found themselves being the leaders of a mini-clan of sorts. Not quite big enough to be a city, maybe more like a village, or a camp. A Survivor's Camp.

Though Lawrence didn't really intent to become a leader of anything but himself, but one thing led to another. Dragons looked up to him and Rhapsody, and, well, they were the ones who started all this, so perhaps, it was only natural that they would become the leaders. It's not too bad, in Lawrence's opinion; he lets Rhapsody do most of the talking, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have an influence. He's not stupid; he wouldn't have been such a good thief if he were, and he's no slouch at good ideas for the survivors either. He is a mirror, after all; the instincts of surviving in extremely tough circumstances was bred into him. Purgatory has plenty of dangers, after all; from the very presence of the dimension itself, to the half-faded ferals who roam the lands, and not to mention the Retainers, who seek out any potential troublemakers. Luckily, they don't have to deal with the latter very often at all, with the concealing magic they use, but when one shows up, it's all hands on deck. Fleeing is often the best option, and Lawrence has put himself in charge of figuring out the proper escape routes; something he has yet to fail at.

All in all, Lawrence can't say he's dissatisfied with his afterlife. It's thrilling at the very least, and he has Rhapsody with him, as well as a bunch of other survivors. It's no thievery, for sure, but it's something he'd never even really thought about, and now that he has it, he doesn't really dislike it.

It's surviving, just as always.
