While her parents Henry and Emily were born as a Pearlcatcher and a Tundra who became Gaolers with Wasp/Bee/Shardflank genes as adults, Marigold and her siblings were all born this way. When she found out that she was born as something that was both the same as what her parents are now, but totally different from how they used to be, it inspired her to start tracing her lineage as a hobby.

The first thing she learned: Marigold can trace her direct matrilineage back 22 steps.

(G2) Marigold's mom is Emily.
(G3) Emily's mom is Julera.
(G4) Julera's mom is Milan.
(G5) Milan's mom is Mandonola.
(G6) Mandonola's mom is Valeta.
(G7) Valeta's mom is Yuria.
(G8) Yuria's mom is Lava.
(G9) Lava's mom is Akatsuki.
(G10) Akatsuki's mom is Wartorn.
(G11) Wartorn's mom is Headmistress.
(G12) Headmistress's mom is Shadow.
(G13) Shadow's mom is Charlene.
(G14) Charlene's mom is Taja.
(G15) Taja's mom is Syrando.
(G16) Syrando's mom is Sylph.
(G17) Sylph's mom is Vespertine.
(G18) Vespertine's mom is Sparrow.
(G19) Sparrow's mom is Parvati.
(G20) Parvati's mom is Kura.
(G21) Kura's mom is Fermata.
(G22) Fermata's mom is Nox.
And Nox doesn't have a mom, because Nox is a progenitor of the clan of CascadingCosmos.

Ah, but there's more! Marigold's father, Henry...
(G3) Is a son of Pot.
(G4) She is a daughter of Flamecaller.
(G5) He is a son of Darius.

Now, Darius claims on his bio to be descended from the infamous Glitch Queen Naomi in two different ways, as well as from dragon #666, Ignis, and from dragons #16 and #17, so Marigold did some digging and verified all of Darius's claims herself:

(G6) Darius's father, Roswaal,
(G7) is a son of Fira.
(G8) Fira is a daughter of One.
(G9) One is a son of Zero.
(G10) Zero is a daughter of Zavada.
(G11) Zavada is a daughter of Phantom.
(G12) Phantom is a son of Thorn.
(G13) Thorn is a son of Willow.
(G14) Who is, in fact, a daughter of Naomi herself.

Making Marigold a great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-granddaughter of Naomi! Or G14, if you prefer. Marigold does not. She likes saying "great" many times over.

But there's more!

(G8) Fira isn't just a daughter of One, she's also a daughter of Sabine.
(G9) Sabine is a daughter of Erede.
(G10) Erede is a son of Jarglane.
(G11) Jarglane is a daughter of Dolce.
(G12) Dolce is a daughter of Ambrosia.
(G13) Ambrosia is a daughter of Corruption.
(G14) Corruption is a son of Andromeda.
(G15) Andromeda is a daughter of Collapse.
(G16) Collapse is a son of Zero, though not the same zero that One was a daughter of, above.
(G17) Zero is a daughter of Erroneous.
(G18) Erroneous is another son of Willow.
(G19) And Willow, as established earlier, is a daughter of Naomi.

This means Marigold is also a G19 descendant of Naomi, or, if you prefer to think of it this way, because she's related to Willow two different ways, Marigold is her own 12th cousin 5 times removed. Marigold does not like to think of it that way one bit!

And there's more! Fira isn't just related to Naomi in two different ways, she's also related to dragon #666, Ignis, because, as previously established, she's descended from Andromeda.

(G15) And Andromeda isn't just a daughter of Collapse, she's also a daughter of Mormor.
(G16) She is a daughter of Gaap.
(G17) She is a daughter of Ignis.

Making Marigold a G17 descendant of Ignis!

She's close friends with another dragon, Kaine, in this very lair, and Kaine is a G5 descendant of Ignis through Ignis's son Wicked, but you can read about that in Kaine's bio if you're interested. Marigold isn't interested in writing down the full lineage of other dragons. Only her own. She's a bit self-centered like that, I'm afraid! Still, this means that Kaine is her 3rd cousin 13 times removed, and that's almost as good as being her older brother in Marigold's book.

Now, although Marigold doesn't really understand what's so impressive about it, she's also descended from dragons #16 and #17, because, as previously established, she's a descendant of Jarglane.

(G11) And Jarglane, of course, is a daughter of Progeny.
(G12) Progeny is a son of Descendant.
(G13) Descendant is a son of Feint.
(G14) Feint is a daughter of WildGaze.
(G15) WildGaze is a daughter of Mayo.
(G16) Mayo is a son of Ororo.
(G17) Ororo is a daughter of Storm.
(G18) Storm is a son of Galax.
(G19) Galax is a son of HydraCorinthian (which Marigold still sometimes has trouble spelling).
(G20) HydraCorinthian is a daughter of Gemrot.
(G21) Gemrot is a son of Oceano.
(G22) Oceano is a son of Malin.
(G23) And Malin's parents are Tellar and Darter.

This means Marigold is a G23 descendant of theirs.

Speaking of very, very old dragons, Marigold is also a descendant of dragons #42 and #43. #42 is, she's told, the oldest dragon in the world with primal eyes, and that's neat, right? And something something about life, the universe, and everything. 42. You get it.

(G3) Marigold's mom's mom, as established, is Julera.
(G4) Julera's dad is Quem.
(G5) Quem's mom is Cathbodua.
(G6) Cathbodua's dad is Unnamed.
(G7) Unnamed's dad is Carmine.
(G8) Carmine's dad is Belphegor.
(G9) Belphegor's mom is Scarlet.
(G10) Scarlet's mom is Kurasu (and since her dad is IndraUchiha, this ALSO makes Marigold G10 Uchiha, so she expects a Sharingan any day now)
(G11) Kurasu's dad is Thorn.
(G12) Thorn's dad is Diode.
(G13) Diode's dad is Unnamed.
(G14) Unnamed's dad is DeadBoy.
(G15) DeadBoy's mom is Coyote.
(G16) Coyote's dad is Aether.
(G17) Aether's dad is Summanus.
(G18) Summanus's dad is Anubis.
(G19) Anubis's dad is Narcissus.
(G20) Narcissus's mom is Amarin.
(G21) And her parents are Isanivar and Alisaveri, #43 and #42.

So Marigold is a G21 descendant of Isanivar and Alisaveri. Actually, G21 in two different ways, because she's descended from Kurasu and IndraUchiha two different ways:

(G6) Cathbodua's dad may be Unnamed, but her mom is Skuld.
(G7) Skuld's mom is SilentEcho.
(G8) SilentEcho 's dad is SynergyStarlight.
(G9) SynergyStarlight's mom is VictrixVulcana.
(G10) VictrixVulcana's parents are ALSO IndraUchiha and Kurasu. From there, you can follow the same path as above to reach Isanivar and Alisaveri.

Does that make her G20? No, of course it doesn't.

Some might say that, once you go back a dozen generations, or two dozen, or more, that the lineage doesn't mean much: after all, nearly every dragon in the world will be related over enough generations! It's true that her XYZ color pattern was carefully chosen and bred for over multiple generations due to its rarity, though it's clearly a pattern that nobody else was trying to find. If asked about that story, Marigold would sternly tell you to read the bio of either of her parents, though. And nobody is out searching for dragons who are 17 generations removed from the famed Ignis or 14 away from Glitch Queen Naomi. Still, Marigold enjoys learning exactly how she might be distantly related to all kinds of dragons in this wide world, even if it is by such a small amount as to make her and her family of little value to "collectors."

Another dragon in this lair, Darkwillow, has in her bio that she's a G19 descendant of Mephisto, a dragon who's famous for having lots of descendants, as can be seen if you trace her patrilineal line (that is, Mephisto is her father's father's father's father's father's father's father's father's father's father's father's father's father's father's father's father's father's father). Though the path is a bit windier, Marigold is also a descendant of Mephisto. Specifically, he is her mother's mother's father's mother's mother's mother's father's father's father's mother's father's father's father's father, making her a G15 descendant via the shortest route found yet. There may be shorter ones. There are definitely longer ones. Turns out lots of dragons who mate together are distant cousins!

(G4) Julera's father is Quem.
(G5) Quem's mother is Cathbodua.
(G6) Cathbodua's mother is Skuld.
(G7) Skuld's mother is SilentEcho.
(G8) SilentEcho's father is SynergyStarlight.
(G9) SynergyStarlight's father is GrandGlaciesNoir.
(G10) GrandGlaciesNoir's father is Xander.
(G11) Xander's mother is NightSky.
(G12) NightSky's father is Svidi.
(G13) Svidi's father is Nimbus.
(G14) Nimbus's father is Asmodei.
(G15) Asmodei's father is Mephisto.

Sometimes Marigold finds evidence that she's distantly related to royalty, or at least, to dragons who claim in their bios to be royalty. Marigold doesn't think of herself as royalty, really, but it's always fun to know that somewhere in one's past is evidence that a trace or two of royal blood flows in one's veins.

(G5) We already know that Marigold is descended from Flamecaller, whose father is Darius. But Flamecaller's mother is Cancer.
(G6) Cancer's father is Scorpio.
(G7) Scorpio's mother is Cosmos.
(G8) Cosmos's father is Dhimani.
(G9) Dhimani's mother is Nova.
(G10) Nova's father is Khazad.
(G11) Khazad's father is Dagorlad.
(G12) And Dargorlad's father is Morgul and his mother is Leoni. Morgul and Leoni seem like they might have been pretty important dragons!

(G8) We've seen SilentEcho's father before, and her mother is CleopatrasGhost (who appears more than once, but this is the shortest path to her).
(G9) CleopatrasGhost's mother is Nabou.
(G10) Nabou's mother is Drejera.
(G11) Drejera's mother is Kirjava.
(G12) Kirjava's mother is Zayin.
(G13) Zayin's mother is Fayra.
(G14) Fayra's father is Adra.
(G15) Adra's mother is Artio.
(G16) Artio's mother is Tziporah. Her children (such as Artio) are known as the "Progeny Silver Line."
(G17) Tziporah 's father is Ragnorak and his mother is Sylvern. Their line is known as the "Progeny Line." Marigold isn't sure what this means, but it sounds fancy!

Sometimes she finds XXX color patterns, and those can go back several generations before somebody decided to stop trying to keep the pattern going. But sometimes, after enough generations, she can find some interesting ones, like the first non-progenitor Obsidian/Obsidian/Obsidian dragon ever born:

(G7) Skuld's mother was mentioned earlier, and Skuld's father is Fire.
(G8) Fire's mother is Void.
(G9) Void's father is Starless.
(G10) Starless's mother is NightSky.
(G11) NightSky's father is Gordon.
(G12 Gordon's mother is Panorin.
(G13) Panorin's father is Pantheon.
(G14) Pantheon's father is Fenris, whose bio correctly states that he is the oldest non-progen XXX Obsidian dragon ever born. In fact, Fenris has many, many XXX Obsidian descendants, and Marigold has found him pop up in her family tree in seven places and counting. Once again, the inbreeding rules of this game mean there's nothing strictly wrong with this, and 14 generations back is the shortest path to him, so she doesn't feel too bad about it.


And on that note, Marigold wants you know that there's still more to learn about her heritage! Marigold knows she's not the only Marigold in the world. In fact, there have been thousands! At the time of her birth, she was Marigold #8,620 in the world. But, here's a fun fact: while she hasn't been able to trace her ancestry back to the very first Marigold, she has been able to find links to the second one. In fact, in four different ways, which she finds a little disconcerting, so she won't be sharing all four of them with you today. She'd rather just tell you one of the two shortest ones to save us all some time. After all, time is money!

(G6) We've already established that Marigold is decended from Roswaal through Darius, Flamecaller, Pot, and Henry.
(G7) Roswaal is also a son of FiSaSg, which Marigold isn't sure how to pronounce.
(G8) FiSaSg is a son of Arard.
(G9) Arard is a son of Nether.
(G10) Nether is a son of Blood.
(G11) Blood is a son of Callis.
(G12) Callis is a son of Plauge.
(G13) Plauge is a son of Sergei.
(G14) Sergei is a son of Roux.
(G15) Roux is a son of Hermes.
(G16) Hermes is a son of Quarth.
(G17) Quarth is a son of Kronos.
(G18) Kronos is a son of Carnifex, a rather striking Veilspun.
(G19) Carnifex is a son of Sufferer.
(G20) Sufferer is a son of Scarlet.
(G21) Scarlet is a daughter of Metis.
(G22) Metis is a son of Hixon.
(G23) Hixon is a daughter of Agate.
(G24) Agate is a son of Xocolatl (Who, coincidentally, lives in the same lair as Morgul and Leoni from earlier).
(G25) And Xocolatl is the firstborn son of Marigold herself.

Which makes Marigold a G25 Marigold descendant! And that, Marigold thinks, is worth celebrating most of all!

(If you find a mistake, like a misdirected link or a misgendered dragon, please let me know. I'd rather be told than have an embarrassing error just sitting here.)

(I've currently fully charted back 10 generations of Marigold's history, as well as some tangents due to duplicates appearing and being counted two or more times, for a total of 17,679 dragons as of 7/21/2022. The farthest back I've been able to go is 34 generations on some paths. I plan on continuing for a while, but it's very slow and demoralizing work. Still, it's fun to see that she's descended from multiple generations of gold/gold/gold dragons in one part of her family tree starting with her mother's mother's father's father's mother Eowyn, or from an obsidian/obsidian/obsidian dragon and several generations of what appears to have been an old breeding project starting from her mother's mother's father's mother's father's mother Medeia, or her father's mother's father's mother's mother's father's mother Midnight whose grandfather is ALSO named Midnight or finding multiple different hatcheries and fandragons in the mix, as well as some dragons who are 6 or 8 years old and still well-fed in active lairs.)

(I have no plans to ever breed Marigold or her older sister Lily, because they're too busy with their own things and I have lots of other pairs of dragons who I'd prefer to breed instead, but all of their other siblings are fair game.)
