Cleopatra's Ghost does not know why she dreams of shimmering sands as she sleeps, since she was born and raised in the endless white of the tundra, nor can she articulate why she believes she should be revered as a god-king. Heck, she doesn't even know what a 'Cleopatra' is. Is it edible? She really enjoys things that are edible (especially when they squirm).
And yet, and yet. Despite all this, a voice whispers in her head of lands unknown and histories made, and she is a natural at a certain type of diplomacy that is both opportune and also graceful. Other dragons listen when she speaks, and praise her fierce intellect, and something in her yearns to protect a land that she can't even name. She does not wish to lead; why does it seem that she was born to? Someday she'll speak to the Stellerum Oracle, and maybe the cryptic ol' pearlcatcher will be able to tease out what it all means. Perhaps not. Time may tell, and time may, as it will, tease everything and commit naught. Time's a jerk like that. The lair mostly views this situation with gentle amusement over their gin and tonics. The main exception is her close friend, the good Caesar; in his own way, he understands, if not fully. But he does his best! Despite her visions, she knows she is meant to rule the coldlands, not the desert, and has begun to learn the ways of ice magic from Cassiopeia. She has even successfully summoned an ice sprite, and the wee creature has become her constant companion.  Amazing Art by the luminous Dierdre |
