璃雪 -> líxuě (Chinese), riyuki (Japanese). Meaning: Crystal snow. - One of these is not like the others... but Polaris loves her all the same. - Was hatched during the Crystalline Gala, hence her Ice magic is quite strong. Capsule contains supercooled water, but it's tinted green because the outside isn't very translucent and it's thick to prevent drastic temperature changes. Favourite attack is using this supercooled water to spread rime everywhere and mess with others. - Claws have a very strong grip. She has rough foot pads to prevent skidding on ice. To help herself she deliberately makes the ground under her claws rough with ice crystals. - Thick fur coat keeps her warm even in the coldest of climates. Then again, magic actually forces heat away from her belly and into the rest of her body when she's feeling cold, or lets heat flow naturally from the rest of her body to the supercooled water in warmer conditions, so... her body's a natural refrigerator. - The difference between her and Shokan is that Shokan is naturally cold and cools everything down, but Riyuki is naturally warm save her belly and doesn't change the temperature around her. |

"...why the adoptions?"
Polaris sighs. "Normally, dragons with unusually and extremely powerful magic are... difficult to take care of. You'd know this, of course... but I'm able to withstand the cold well enough, so a few of the Academia's Ice Flight orphans were placed under my care while I was a Master. Normally the Ice Flight orphans would be adopted by the others, but for those in extreme circumstances... they're given to me. Shōsetsu, Shōkan, Daikan and Riyuki happen to fit in that category; they're orphans found by the Academia. Taisetsu is an exchange student; she's a prospective Seeker but her relatives sent her over because I know them and her parents are deceased. Apparently I made a decent impression. I found Tōji and Rittō together huddling for shelter in a cave in the Cloudscrape Crags-"
"Is it true that dragons who venture upwards never return?"
"Obviously not, look at me. Or Pyne. I found them, and their respective parents were also deceased so I took them in."
"No, I mean why?" Harvest tries again, clearly unhappy with the answers she's being given. Then again, she can't exactly be blamed; they're quite vague. "Why not have kids on your own?"
"Personal reasons."
"...no time for marriage?"
"Not interested in romance."
"..."
"..."
"...that's not the main reason, is it?"
"You're awfully perceptive; it's not. There are... other reasons, but that's one of them."
Harvest silently blinks, before staring at her mentor. Blatant praise is rare, so she'll take what she can get. "So..."
"...you know the Scarred Wasteland trip my class went on?"
"...yes? I heard about it from some seniors," the Banescale dips her head slightly. "Rumour has it that Professor Arelin riled up the Effluvial Crow population by wandering into their territory and they retaliated."
The normally unflappable Skydancer grimaces reluctantly as she starts fidgeting with her shawl. "...I'm sterile."
"...what?!"
