Although he now resides in the Sunbeam Ruins, Vale still finds himself most active at night, particularly on nights when the moon shines unclouded above. He was always a quiet child and often preferred solitude, leading some to believe he was a gloomy, anti-social hatchling. The truth is that he enjoys the silence of being on his own. He doesn't dislike other dragons, but can feel drained after interacting with them too much.
Vale can be anxious at times, since his visions tend to involve communion with spirits that have lost their attachment to this world. These spirits feel adrift and he longs to comfort them. He asks them about themselves and does what he can to help them be ready to move on, sometimes by bringing messages to their loved ones. The emotional labor can be taxing, but helping these spirits brings Vale a sense of peace as well.
Remember, the moon is always there, even when we cannot see it. Your love is always near, even when I cannot see you.

Vale found a soul to comfort in Melda, an Imperial with an unusual situation...having died and been revived. Since she also had connections to the spirit world, the two began spending long hours sharing details they thought they would never be able to share with anyone. They found themselves growing close. The intimacy they shared was soothing and they decided to become lifemates.
They hatched 3 offspring together: Callis, Praxis, and Ison.

His children did not express the abilities of either of their parents when they were young. Vale and Melda made the decision to not bring up their connections to the spirit world if their children would not share their connection to death. Melda was afraid that she would scare their young ones if she revealed the truth of her circumstances, which caused her to be anxious, and Vale supported her as best as he could. When his daughter was grown, Callis asked her father about the visions of gloom that she was having. Vale revealed to her that she had inherited his power and their connection to the moon oracles. Melda also revealed their connection to death and the underworld. They apologized to their daughter for not explaining sooner.
