Following the terrible dry lightning storm that has been dubbed "The Reminder" by the clan, Maudy has stepped down from his role of leading the Wayward Winds, instead serving as part of the 8-dragon council that advises Zephira, with his specific area of expertise being matters of den space and construction.

Above is a very WIP description for Maudy in the current state of the Wayward Winds. Below is is previous description from the previous era of the clan's history. It will remain here until I find a good way to archive and catalogue the lore as it progresses in my head.


A native of the Ashfall Waste, Maudy and his mate, Zaia, once founded a clan devoted to research and discovery in the name of the Flamecaller. Though the original name of their clan has been lost to the years, they were unmatched in dedication to their purpose. Maudy recruited dragons from all corners of Sornieth, those who were willing to lend their strength, their will, or their wit to the Flamecaller's forges. He saw to the clan personally, ensuring all were cared for and content.

As time went on, he and Zaia eventually decided their talents would be best put to use in direct service to the Flamecaller. They appointed new leadership and left the clan in what they believed to be good claws. However, it was not to be so.

The various dragons once united under Maudy and Zaia soon crumbled in their absence. The new leader could not rally them in the same way the founders had. Leadership was passed from dragon to dragon, with none able to successfully bring the clan back to glory. In the constant turnover, rationing and upkeep fell to the wayside. The clan fell into disarray and hunger.

Seeing this, Maudy and Zaia requested leave from the Flamecaller's service, to restore their clan to its former glory. She graciously granted their request.

Upon their return, it became clear to the pair that the clan needed to change. No longer could they unite disparate souls under the banner of the Flamecaller, devoted to furthering her power and stoking the flames of her forges in their own way. The clan was a gathering of misfits that needed safety. A home where they could find quiet, or the space to follow their own pursuits. And, weakened by the smoke and hunger, they needed a place that was lush, clean, and bountiful. Someplace more verdant than the Waste.

So Maudy and Zaia rounded up those who would follow them, and moved the clan to the Windswept Plateau, where they re-founded it under the name of the Wayward Winds clan, and dedicated it to being a place where dragons could find rest from whatever worldly troubles found them. They accepted all dragons who would desire a home with them, and asked no devotion of anyone.

They established a trio of advisors, sages with the power to divine the future through fire, magic, or the stars. These sages would not only aid them in plotting the course of the clan but, in the event that leadership had to be passed to another once more, these sages would provide a level of stability in leadership that would carry over and benefit the clan in the long-term.

Maudy once more took to finding those who would find a home within their clan—though now it was any who needed a place to find safety and shelter. Any who had nowhere else to go. They accepted all with open wings. And while the search for lost dragons in need of a home became more difficult following his unfortunate transformation into a Gaoler as a result of his mate's wayward experimentation, he did not waver in his dedication to locating those that needed them.

Until a pair of Banescales, Ashmarr and Tyar, emerged from the Ashfall Waste. Coming across the clan, they claimed to be emissaries of the Flamecaller, and set upon Maudy and Zaia for what they perceived as a betrayal. To have abandoned the service of the Flamecaller, only to leave her lands and then become dragons of ice was unforgiveable. They challenged the pair's right to lead, and rallied what dragons they could amongst the clan, those few who had grown discontent with leaving the Waste.

Maudy proposed to the Banescale pair, as well as his hotheaded mate, that leadership be placed in the care of the sages, at least temporarily. They would ensure the wellbeing of the clan while the founders and the "emissaries" sought a... resolution to their conflict. To this day, there remains a deep tension in the clan as it remains divided over not only potential past wrongs, but the question of the clan's future.
