Calamity is a cleric and scholar. He's long researched the Forbidden Portal, visiting only occasionally to test his findings. His curiosity is boundless and obsessive, a morbid fascination driving him to discover ancient texts detailing rituals forbidden to dragonkind. This research sees him visiting Rapture's library of historic findings on a regular basis, and over the course of their drawn out research, they become close.

On one of his trips to the Portal, he is surprised and delighted to find Hemlock and his clan nesting very nearby. He speaks with Hemlock at length, detailing his studies and the conditions he has discovered. Hemlock reveals that he has been frustrated recently with his inability to act decisively, lacking the information to proceed with his plans.

Calamity doesn't have all of the answers he seeks, but he does have a number of suggestions for further avenues of research. Sampling the soil and battling the local fauna, touching the Portal and casting spells upon it, his research leads him to more and more dangerous tasks. Hemlock's collapse comes as a surprise, but does not put a damper on Calamity's curiosity.

Eclipse was an eager student, and he proves to be an even better leader, assigning Calamity all the resources and assistance he needs to continue his experiments. Revyn joins him often, helping him battle the local fauna. Nimriel starts keeping records for him, and the young Violeta aids with samples of soil and plants.

Between their probing and the parallel research in the nearby Voidleap clan, the aura radiating from the Portal grows exponentially, covering more and more of the surrounding land with strange new fungi and ambient glowing light. Calamity has never been more excited.
