Eclipse learned at a young age the consequences of messing with the stars. His father's curse is a burden upon their family, driving him slowly mad while eyes he cannot see through sprout from his wings. Eclipse, however, never holds his affliction against the parasite to his father's body. To him, it seems that the creature needs this.

Rather, it is the clergy against whom he seeks vengeance. Had they intervened sooner, his father could have been spared this fate. As he researches their order, the threat from the stars, and a number of related fields of study, he encounters a strange clan. The Cruxrose clan, nested near the Forbidden Portal, have a rather different view of the stars than Eclipse has grown up with.

They believe that the stars are doing their best to usher in a new era of prosperity, latching onto draconic hosts only as much as is needed to spread their holy message. The more time Eclipse spends with them, the more he grows to embrace this idea. He coordinates with the clan's researchers, eagerly learning their materials and drawing new connections.

When the clan's leader collapses, Eclipse knows that he cannot let the clan fall apart. Their research is too valuable, their mission too important. He does whatever he can to keep the clan together, filling in whatever gaps are needed. He finds himself in a leadership position shortly thereafter, and wears the mantle with a heavy sense of responsibility.
