A high-born coatl, Violeta arrives in the Cruxrose lair knowing little aside from her parents ambitions towards an allegiance with Hemlock and his clan. As it turns out, Hemlock himself is a husk of his former self, and a strange Imperial has taken leadership of the clan. At first, Violeta is disdainful towards Eclipse. After all, why should some random Imperial be in charge of a clan of noble coatls. But as she spends more time in the clan, she realizes the frivolity of her parents' interests. Eclipse's sense of driven purpose appeals to her more and more, as do the skills of his research team.

Feeling inspired, she offers her claws to the mission, and is granted the position of field assistant. Lowly though it is, the hands-on work is more fulfilling to her than the social dance she grew up with. Skipping out on most of Lottie's lavish parties, she instead spends her evenings observing Nimriel's work.
