Biography
Umbra'Penna
Lore
. |
Umbra'Penna's lips curled into large Ridgeback grin, revealing her pearly fangs to the one that sat before her. Her rich voice purred, "You'll not gainsay my terms are more than generous." Rich, her faithful familiar, sat to her right with his balance clasped firmly by his jaws. On one plate sat a generous pile of gold coins, the other held a small pile of pulsing crystals. Rich's eyes stared forward with his ears focused ahead and his back stiff. On the other side of Umbra'Penna's crystalline desk sat a young Skydancer female. Her feathers, once shining and reminiscent of Umbra'Penna's sister Luna'Spiritus, were now dull as if the life were driven out. Her frail shoulders trembled and her antennae quivered as she bowed her head. The Skydancer female whispered, "I... I accept the terms..." Umbra'Penna stood up with a sharp bark. "Ha! I knew your mind 'ere you came! Come now, young one. Smile! You now have the funds you desired for your pilgrimage." Rich faded from the chamber and left behind the pile of treasure. Umbra'Penna swept up the pile into a purple pouch with golden draw strings in a flourish of vibrant wings and jingling jewelry. She rounded the desk in swift strides and shoved the pouch of gold into the young Skydancer's paws. Umbra'Penna then forced the young one to look up into her eyes. Umbra'Penna growled, "Of course... You know the penalty should you fail to pay me back..." Umbra'Penna could feel the young Skydancer trembling in her grip before she released the youth and shoved her toward the exit of her hollow. In a flurry of jingling coins and ruffled feathers, the Skydancer female fled. After a few silent moments, the air temperature dropped dramatically. Umbra'Penna, holding the crystals that the Skydancer handed over during the deal, felt a dark glare piercing the back of her head. The mild chill that crept up her spine was a mere shadow of the fear she once knew. Umbra'Penna used her power to make the crystals disappear from her forepaw, safely stored in a dimension only she could access. Umbra'Penna did not turn around but her voice rasped as if the moisture was stolen from her flesh. "How may I help you today, Tenebris'Cor?" Tenebris'Cor's cold voice commanded the chamber, "Still up to your games? Hmph. Umbra'Penna, the clan's hoard is missing one million coins." Umbra'Penna bristled and turned on her tail to snarl. "Are you accusing me of embezzlement?" Tenebris'Cor's mask stared at her, the pale light from the eyes glittering. "Against my better judgement, I have allowed you to remain guardian of the clan's funds. Given your reputation there is cause for concern regarding this matter." Umbra'Penna's growl thundered from deep in her chest. She stomped up to Tenebris'Cor. "Watch that tongue of yours. You lack your father's charisma, whelp. If you actually read my reports instead of letting that witch handle it all you would know that the coins were allocated to the Crystalweavers so that they could procure more supplies for repairs. I will not tolerate such insolence, even from the Patriarch." A hideous laugh hissed out from the mask that Tenebris'Cor wore. "There she is... the true Umbra'Penna. You possess a glib tongue but the heart always reveals the truth. So... the Crystalweavers gave those funds to the Day's Watch?" Before she could stop herself a curse whipped out from Umbra'Penna. She backed away from Tenebris'Cor a few steps. "A test then...?" Tenebris'Cor snorted. "One that you failed miserably. What is it that you say? I knew your mind 'ere you came? You were always soft... only cooperating with my father out of fear." Umbra'Penna backed away and placed her desk between herself and Tenebris'Cor. She sat down on her haunches. "What will you do with this information?" Tenebris'Cor rolled his shoulders. His posture was relaxed and his tone faded into a drone. "I have no interest in your schemes so long as they do not harm my goals. I will unite this clan, one way or another." Tenebris'Cor stepped up and slammed his paws onto the crystalline desk. "Know this. I have no qualms with taking your soul and making you an Ascendant. Stop meddling with my affairs and do your job, Astronomer." Tenebris'Cor turned away and stalked out of her hollow. Once his pawsteps faded, Umbra'Penna summoned a gold coin and flipped it. She caught the coin and slapped her forepaw onto her desk. Her eyes glared at the arch that stood as the entrance to her hollow. The dark gloom of the crystalline hall was the only sight to be seen. Umbra'Penna flared out her wings and lashed her spiked tail. She growled, "I AM doing my job..." | . |

. . . . |
The Titan Age Umbra'Penna was one of the last of Magna'Mater and Magna'Patrem's children to hatch near the end of this age. While not as young as her brother Arcyng Leo'Animus, she still feels that she needs to pull her weight among her siblings. That feeling of insignificance raged on within her, especially knowing that she hatched as a Ridgeback. Despite the assurances of her siblings, she couldn't help feeling like their eyes judged her as nothing but a destined pickpocket. She delved deep into research, desperate to seek her domain so that she may join her siblings in their lofty post known as the Pantheon. At last, her greed and ambition paid off when she created her familiar in a fit of rage during a sour trade with a Longneck. While that Longneck she dealt with is long dead as of the New Age, Umbra'Penna attributes that surge of power she felt while she discussed the terms of their trade to her discovery of her domain. To which her domain focused on wealth. With the new knowledge, she permanently joined the ranks of the Astronomers with her focus of study being commerce and its psychological effects. With her specialty being wealth, this naturally transitioned into her being responsible for monitoring the clan's funds and treasure hoard. As time continued, she discovered that her Ridgeback form was a boon. She knew the thought processes of Ridgebacks and thieves alike and thus could defend her clan's precious hoard from those with sticky paws. When her parents and the other elder Titans entered hibernation, she was not as affected as her siblings. She only saw the transition as a natural and necessary change. While rumors circulate that she is an Angel of Rebirth, Umbra'Penna has not made an effort to deny it. She entertains the idea that her mother gave her the name "Shadow Wing" in an amusing warning about the darkness that surrounds wealth. The Pantheon Age Like many during this age, Umbra'Penna thrived under Arcyng Leo'Animus' rule. She saw an incredible upsurge in the clan's funds and was kept busy. Arcyng Leo'Animus frequently visited her to discuss the economical trends of the clan and local beastclans. Umbra'Penna will be the first to say that she enjoyed her younger brother's company. He was sharp and shrewd with a gift for negotiation that made him a joy to talk to. However he was not the only one to seek her input. She was often summoned to the Hallowed Hall to speak with her older brother Noctis'Timore. Among her siblings, Umbra'Penna will say he is the only one to inspire fear in her veins. She knew he was the one to attack their father and knew full well what he was capable of. So she was torn when the Angel's Coup D'etat came to pass. Tenebris'Cor did not hold her in high esteem and every time she spoke to him she felt as if his eyes were trying to peer into her soul. In the end, after the fighting settled, she shed tears for the loss of a golden age of prosperity. The New Age Tenebris'Cor does not hold Umbra'Penna in the same high esteem as his predecessors so she does not see the same amount of insight into the clan as she once did. This has not stopped her from performing her duties and pursuing her studies. She refuses to openly admit it, however she is interested in seeing how the clan will change moving forward. The dissension is palpable and Umbra'Penna knows it is only a matter of time before the seat of power is fought over once again. She ruminates over how to approach her nephew Audens'Cor Ladarius about overthrowing Tenebris'Cor. Her ambitious heart calls for the power she once had and she sees her young nephew as the knight she needs to see that ambition fulfilled. The only problem that she sees was wrought of her past actions and the reputation she built over the ages. Rich the Enchanted Libra Rich is Umbra'Penna's Enchanted Libra. It is believed that he was created by Umbra'Penna when she crushed two gold coins into the plates that he now uses in his balance. This austere canine is a fowl omen when a dragon bound by a loan is summoned by Umbra'Penna. To see this canine seated at his mistress's side is to know that a dragon's life is at stake. When Rich is not using his balances to aid his mistress, he is often assigned to the duty of messenger. Customization Goals |
