After worrying about it for a week, Rosa finally decided to ask her parents for advice. Cocoa was also worried, but was remaining optimistic. Rosa would like to feel the same, but her heart was deeply unsettled. She found her father, Udon, on the ground for once. He immediately looked up at her with a grin. "How's my little slow worm?" Slow worm, he'd called her that when she was a fledgling, affectionately teasing her, encouraging her to catch up to him. Flying higher and faster. He had been such a good parent. She should have been more like him and kept her babies close. She felt tears well up in her eyes. "Oh, Rosa, what's wrong?" Worry and sadness were strange to see in her father, who was always so joyous and light-hearted. "Dad... I haven't heard back from one of my boys. Maybe I'm just being clingy. He's a growing lad, fully fledged, he doesn't want to be pestered by his mum-" She choked up, a more intense wave of loss coming over her. "But-" "But you can feel it." Udon said, his voice sombre and shaken. "He's gone?" She whispered, dreading the answer she already knew. "Let me... let me talk to Lauma, she'll know." Lauma was her aunt, who had a connection, or a sense, for those that had passed. At least Rosa might know that her son was at peace, but it was still too raw to think about. She hadn't seen him since he left, all excitement and smiles, just like her father. He curled around her, just like he used to when her and her siblings were hatchlings. A nest of noodles, her grandfather used to say. "I'm so sorry," he murmured. "Me too." 
A Letter from Ziora wrote:
A scroll with an attached small package was delivered by a Petalmane Floron. Both were addressed to Rosa. The scroll read the following and inside the package was a beautiful ruby bracelet with a spiral in flight etched into the silver.
Momma I am writing you this letter to let you know that I am well and safe. I've settled down in the same clan as Kholin! Can you believe that? I suppose it's no surprise with how many of grandma Conch's kids are here. After I left I met a lovely Coatl and he's taught me so much. I am finally proud enough to send you a gift! I went out with my now mate and found you the prettiest ruby to turn into a bracelet for you! I hope it brings you happiness. Maybe next time I send a letter we'll have a clutch of our own. Chusayo says they will be our little jewels and that we can come visit one day! Everybody is going just fine here. Thistleward is thriving and I am helping by bringing in treasure for the town so try not to worry to much ok? I love you momma. ~Ziora and Chusayo. |
