It began as the Ancients arose. A plague of nightmares spread across Sornieth, moving faster than it had any right to. Some were old memories, passed down from ancestors who had lived through the war-torn ages; some were family memories from much sooner, of those who had endured attacks from the other flights; some weren’t memories at all, but deep-seated fears that could too easily become reality. After three days, it seemed every dragon had the nightmares. After five, some could no longer tell the nightmares apart from their own memories. After seven, for some, the nightmares were more real than any memory. Weeks passed, and the situation was only getting worse - until a hatchling broke free of his egg and looked into his parents’ eyes, and in moments, they felt the dreams slip from their mind. They remembered truth, now. They remembered what was real. A second hatchling of such power was born soon after, and she helped her clan the way he helped his. In time, they moved on, each determined to heal all of Sornieth single-handedly if they had to. As they went, they discovered a second ability: they could alter and replace dreams, turning them from howling nightmares to things soft and sweet. They found one another in the Sunbeam Ruins. Both of them had come to a clan in the Beacon of the Radiant Eye; when they learned they had the same abilities, they started talking more seriously, and in the end, they asked the clan leaders for permission to join, to stay and have hatchlings of their own. Their guesses were right - their descendants inherited a share of their powers, weakened though they were. It would take time for them to help others with the nightmares, and more effort, but they could do it. The question now is… will they? |

Ozan is a peaceful and mischievous dragon with a deep love for the world. Though born more recently than many Rifters, he has taken many trips into the past and to other dimensions to learn and preserve their songs and stories - one time even going back to hear the Banescale's swan song to their last generation for a young Banescale who felt the tune in her bones but couldn't find the words. Not all of his quests are so noble, more often being fueled by self-motivation only. During such trips into the past, future, and even other dimensions, Ozan has had a few run-ins with the organization that is after all of his kin, but so far has been cunning enough to escape with a grin on his face. As a descendant of Aisling and Onerio, Ozan has the innate ability to cure the nightmare plague. Their powers in this regard are mediocre, and for the most part, Ozan leaves the nightmare curing to his extended family. However, they do have the unique ability to cure mild cases of the nightmare plague with their song. It's an unnamed song, one only they seem to be able to utilize, and one they didn't know until it was spilling from their heart. Such a thing deserves a good name, Ozan thinks, so they aren't in any rush to name it themselves. They'd like to strengthen this ability so that it's more useful, but rarely finds the chance to practice (and would feel awful if something went awry). Though Ozan does have a glimmer of stardust in their veins, she finds the Starborn Prophet side of her lineage the most difficult to connect to. She's tried, but the earlier generations are so... different, and most dragons have a greater prophetic power than she at any rate. Ozan rarely receives any sort of prophecy, and when she does it's only a brief sense of something too plain to decipher - and they tend to be about mundane things anyways; a sudden smell of mint foretelling what kind of tea her wife will be making in the following day, for example. |

Speaking of their wife, Ozan was fortunate to find someone with similar abilities to theirs in their travels. Adhara, as a descendant of Mars, has the ability to travel through different dimensions. The two actually met in a dimension other than the one they were born in, and grew close after learning of their shared ability. They are rarely found voyaging into other dimensions alone these days. Ozan loves nothing more than to come back to Adhara with tales and poetry from times she will never see, other than listening to Adhara herself gush about the development of Mars. |
