TITANIC
she sparkled like the jewels bright, a wonder to behold | xxx |
History From the moment they hatched, Titanic and her twin sister were inseparable. The two of them did virtually everything together, from exploring the area around their den to simply talking about their futures. Titanic was the more gregarious and confident of the pair; she would often be the one to start a conversation and would usually carry the majority of it, with her sister being content to just listen and chime in on occasion. Despite being more outgoing, though, Titanic saw her sister as being the one in charge, as she was both highly courageous and had very strong protective instincts. Due to their family's nomadic lifestyle, Titanic's younger sister was hatched in the Shifting Expanse, and at the time of her hatching their parents weren't around. They often weren't; unlike many Skydancers, they didn't spend much time with their children as they were often too busy searching for food or fighting off hungry animals or even other dragons. At that time, however, they were in the midst of a fight with a local clan they'd tried to steal prey from. Both of them were killed in the scuffle, and the patrol that had killed them came upon their hatchlings, including the newborn one, shortly afterward and took them in. This clan didn't do names, instead preferring the more fluid nature of nicknames, and Titanic, for the time being, was called White Star due to her glittering scales. Her twin was called Stripes, a nickname she kept until she left the clan a few years later, and their younger sister was only known as little one, a name shared by all the clan's young hatchlings until they developed distinct personalities. Titanic didn't survive to stay in this clan for long, though. Each year, most of the clan left on a journey to the Southern Icefield, where they would visit the leader's birth clan for the Crystalline Gala. On this particular year, however, the journey ended in tragedy: while the clan was passing through the Cloudscrape Crags, an avalanche caught them off guard, burying several dragons in snow and sweeping several others - Titanic included - over the edge of a deep chasm. The last thing Titanic saw while she was alive was the guardian who'd chosen her as a charge plunging through the torrent of snow in an attempt to save her, only to be unable to reach her in time. Rather than moving on to the afterlife, Titanic chose to stay on the material plane as a ghost, as she didn't want to leave her sisters behind. Staying with them, however, meant she had to watch them grow apart as her twin withdrew from the world, inadvertently neglecting their younger sister, who grew up to hate Titanic for dying and causing so much trouble. After the youngest sister was killed in a fight with a harpy, Titanic's twin left the clan and found a new place to live, where she took the name Olympic. It was then, in a posthumous naming ceremony, that Titanic was given her name, and her younger sister was named Britannic. Both of them, as ghosts, have chosen to watch over their living sister, and although Britannic still hates Titanic there's still hope that they'll finally make amends someday. |
Information Name // TITANIC Personality // A friendly, outgoing dragon by nature, Titanic was known in life as someone who was unfailingly cheerful and eternally pleasant to talk to. She's always been compassionate and talkative, and despite her young age she's quite selfless, willing to endure hardship so her loved ones can be happy. She tries not to think about her death, as the whole experience was horrifying to say the least, and has a habit of telling herself she's invincible in a desperate attempt to pretend the whole thing never happened. -- Likes // Cats, social interaction, Olympic -- Dislikes // Ice, reminders of her death, seeing Olympic upset Inspiration // RMS TITANIC -- Fandragon of RMS Titanic, perhaps the most famous ship in the world thanks to her tragic sinking on April 15th, 1912. Contrary to popular belief, Titanic wasn't attempting to set any speed records on her ill-fated maiden voyage; the White Star Line knew Cunard had them beat in that regard with Lusitania and Mauretania, so they designed their ships for size and luxury instead. Prior to her sinking, she was largely overshadowed by her older sister, Olympic, and only gained her immense fame after the fact. Around 1,500 people were killed when Titanic sank, and the disaster is one of the most famous and enduring tragedies in history. -- This dragon, like my other shipwreck-based dragons, represents only the ship herself, not the lives lost when she sank. |
