Aeolian

The skydancer could hardly complain with the life he'd been given. The dragons of Vulstalridge were kind to him. Blink and Fayre were like the parents he'd never had. He was hardly lonely-- he played freely with the other hatchlings of the clan, and had even made lasting friendships with a handful of them. He was especially fond of Quizzle and Foeslayer! However, itching within Aeolian was a twinge of wanderlust for life beyond the Snowsquall Tundra... whispering underneath all his love and contentment, and growing no softer with the passing years. That desire to venture and explore couldn't be alleviated with sneaky trips out of home, or by Quizzle's makeshift library of books. He wanted more than tales and research and the Icefield. He knew that, but he just didn't know... what that was supposed to be.

Foeslayer seemed to understand him better than anyone, especially in the two's adolescence. The guardian's instinctive need to search for a true Charge was the closest thing Aeolian could compare to his own feelings, and the two sometimes liked to joke that perhaps Aeolian was just as much half-guardian as he was half-wind. They both knew better than anyone there that not even a good life-- or a happy life-- could sate all hungers, as much as they cared for those who lived here.

When Foeslayer left Vulstalridge to begin his Search, the skydancer wasn't too far behind; it was the last nudge of encouragement he needed. Aeolian said his goodbyes to his family and to Quizzle, promised to write, and set off on his own in the spring.

Much of what became of him afterward has already been covered in Kahoku's tale, so it hardly needs much repeating here; all the same, Aeolian would inevitably discover the true reason behind his ache for adventure, and it wouldn't at all be the answer he was expecting.
