Fayre

"It is so nice to see you, again, traveler. Oh? And you brought someone with you! They are adorable... although they do look a little antsy to be in such a new place. Shh, little darling... we are all friends here. Aww, and you seem to like me already. Well, I like you, too!"

"Erm-- sorry, I did not mean to ignore you, friend of Vulstalridge! I will admit that I am a little too much of an animal dragon, sometimes..."



Fayre is Vulstalridge's Familiar Tamer! Her kind and gentle disposition as well as her enduring patience with others make her well equipped for handling all manners of skittish creature. She can help newly caught familiars acclimate to domesticated life as well as guide dragons on how to improve their bonds with their companions, but she has also established a role for herself concerning the territory's wildlife. Garen was the first to realize that Fayre's talents could be used to help avoid clashes with rival beasts in the area; he has since entrusted her with the task of gently coaxing critters to farther-away dens, as well as de-escalating situations where an animal has felt threatened into aggression. The soft-spoken coatl has made things easier for the clan in her own way, granting a magic touch to multiple facts of their lives.

(None of this applies to beastclan races, whom are acknowledged as equals and friends.)




Fayre's unintended journey to the Icefield was first set in motion by the birth of her nephew, Aeolian. Theirs was a clan of predominantly coatl origin that had seen very little integration from other breeds over the generations, and much of the old ways had sustained through the years because of it. Thus Aeolian's hatching was regarded with grave concern and dread. The skydancer's ghostly white coat would have been reason enough for alarm, but the dual pulls of his nature-- with snow and ice almost perpetually flurrying around the child-- was seen as only more reason to be afraid. He was taken as a terrible omen.

As the clan lived within the heart of the Twisting Crescendo, it was decided that the easiest way to be rid of him was to cast him into the ocean below. Fayre, understandably perturbed by the idea of letting a kid drown, instead offered to take Aeolian to the mainland and search for new caretakers there. Her idea was met with little resistance-- he wouldn't be their problem anymore either way, so there wouldn't be much point to it. Fayre left with him and her buttersnake in tow, but their journey took a frightful turn when she misjudged an approaching drift of currents. The little band was swept up into the Crescendo's wrath, and it was all the coatl could do to keep the hatchling tightly secured in her arms. Tossed by the vortex and carried by sea storms beyond it, Fayre lost all sense of direction.

She ultimately found respite from the wind and waves in drifting sheets of ice from the west. Blink was the first inhabitant of the Frigid Floes to come across her, and he managed to lead the coatl and her charge to his den before her strength gave out. The wildclaw's unquestioning act of kindness meant a great deal to Fayre, as did his lack of disdain for her young nephew. She explained as much as she could to him the next morning, and Blink offered a place in his home for as long as she needed.

The three lived in peaceable solitude for a while, but after a scare with a coarsefur yeti, Fayre again began to entertain the idea of raising Aeolian within the safety of a clan. Blink didn't think she should risk approaching any of the larger groups with the dual-natured skydancer, but knew of a smaller band of dragons that lived further south. They had never treated him badly in the few encounters they'd had-- a family like theirs might accept the child more readily.

The wildclaw's instincts would prove to be well-founded. The Vulstalridge clan was welcoming to Fayre, and Aeolian's condition was met with a wide array of reactions-- surprise, fascination, passing intrigue-- but fear was blessedly not among them. It didn't take long for the wayward coatl and her nephew to feel at home in the Snowsquall Tundra.

Blink wouldn't join them for some time, although he did visit on occasion to check in on the two. When he did finally decide to stay, it was to start a new life with Fayre. They have been happily at one another's side, since.
