My sister can be a bit intense, the guardian apologizes, adjusting her tattered windswept apparel. I don't let anything happen to our Chosen, and I will keep you safe as we journey home.

I expect you've heard... unsavory rumors.

Her skin is dry and cracked, hardened by years of travel. Her otherwise youthful face crinkles in displeasure. What you must understand is that we plague dragons take our tributes very seriously. Some gods rope their followers into work contracts, craft beings for the purpose of war, or abandon them entirely. Our Mother is not so. She demands tribute for only the noblest of goals; survival. Without tributes, she could not test our resolve, ensure our strength against the harshest conditions she can create for us. you have felt the pull of our magic, how it grows and spreads. Our lands are expanding. The contagion creeps over borders, finding new places to flourish.

My sister, blessed with sight, seeks out tributes, and I guide them to Mother. She favors clans who bring her tributes, and casts aside those who do not. At any moment, the wasteland winds can turn, and without her protection we would be lost.

You understand, then, why these rumors must not be so? They say the Matriarch is taking Chosen, conscripting them into war. That would be an impossibly foolish action, and one that would not go by unnoticed. I protect the Chosen. I guide them. How could she take them without my knowledge? How could she part them from their destiny?

The truth is much more simple. The border clans fear our growing strength. They fear what it would mean for Mother to favor us. But we do not need conscripted soldiers or Plaguebringer's blessing to kill them all. It is a simple task.

She looks out into the wasteland, watching her sister circling something in the distance. Her claws sink into the soft ground beneath you, drawing blood.
