Kela accompanies his father on a field expedition to do research on the mutation of local flora and fauna after Scathe's Wyrmwound Incident. During this trip, Kela is somehow separated from his father and ends up far from home, joining a new clan in the process, yours!

Field Journal Entry Three:

Appearance of Salamanders:

Observation: There appears to be a large amount of Salamanders around the Wyrmwound, much more than normal

Potential Reason?: Salamanders like to come out when it's hot. Some of the residue from the explosions must have made it warmer and thus made it so they would come out.

Ugh finally, he's gone. I don't know why my dad is so obsessed with me becoming a biologist like him. I don't care about the amount of Salamanders. It isn't relevant. Sometimes I wish I could just escape from here and become a writer. I've got so many stories I want to tell, but he gets so hung up on me being a scientist of sorts that I can't even voice the fact I hate biology and science. I'd miss him a lot of I ran away, but it's just so tiring.

He's coming. Time to look interested in Salamanders again...

Something just happened....

I'm scared.

I wanted to run away.

But not like this.

Why?

Why did he leave me?

What did I do?

Why is it so dark?

I can't see.

I'm struggling to write.

Mom, Dad, if you find me out here as just a skeleton and my book is still clutched in my talons, please know I love you.

Please.

The good news is: I'm not dead. I suppose I should recount what happened last night, but Brayth says I need to come to a meeting soon. I suppose I shouldn't disobey my captors rescuers.

I have so much to say and so little space to write it. All I can really think about is how fast a dragon's life can change. For the better, I might add. I'll start with the night I got lost.

When me and Dad were packing up for the night, I decided to go hunt a random rabbit or something while he finished up with the scientific stuff. Well, it turns out this rabbit was fast and I chased after it for longer than I should have. When I finally caught the rabbit, I was in a place I didn't recognize. I then started to trek back to the area where my father was as the night grew darker and darker, until I could barely see. I made it back to the site we were studying, but he was gone. No note, no trace of anything. I sat there crying for a long period of time before I started in a random direction, on the foolish hope that I would maybe be able to find my way back to the clan.

As I was moving, I started to notice that the ground was weird, almost paved and dragon-like, but vines and greenery covered anything. It looked like ruins that had been covered by time. Deciding this was a good place to rest, I pulled off some of the vines and made a makeshift nest right in the center of the ruins.

Fast forward a couple hours and I'm awoken with a start to frantic yelling and someone screaming. Dragons were standing around me, screaming at each other as to what to do. I had made out some of their conversation like,

"HE TORE DOWN THE SACRED VINE"
"THE CIRCLE IS RUINED"
"OH GLADEKEEPER AND PLAGUEBRINGER WE APOLOGIZE FOR THIS MISTAKE"

Confused, I had asked them what was going on, and was met with more screaming and yelling.

After a while, they started to calm down and moved to a different area in a little huddle, whispering among themselves. I finally asked them what was wrong.

Long story short, they were a religious group who had set up an ancient temple for use this morning, and I had come in and tore down their religious artifacts and messed up the planning, leading to an inability to pray and hear the Gladekeeper and Plaguebringer's wisdom on certain troubles in the clan.

I apologized for my mistake, and they took me back to their colony for questioning. I explained it was an honest mistake, and that all I really wanted was to find my father and be back home. But I also told them about how I wanted to be a writer and that my father was dead-set on making me a scientist.

And, miraculously, they made me an offer. They said that they would take me in and give me a family, a home. They promised me that I could become a writer, and as long as I made monthly contributions to writing that was important for the clan. And like any sane dragon, I accepted.

I'm heading to the main colony at dawn to get initiated, and I couldn't be happier. Praise the Gladekeeper! Praise the Plaguebringer! Praise the Sisters!
