Lore

. Leanne screeched, "Look out!"

To her horror, Leanne watched the great Shade Horrorbeast engulf her brother Ladarius. Leanne's heart pounded in her chest and her mind stretched out toward her twin to try and feel his presence. She was only met with silence from his mind. Fury and grief blinded Leanne's vision with tears. Her lips curled and a feral snarl erupted from her throat. She lunged for the guard railing before her. She planned on vaulting over the rail to enter the arena however heavy jaws snapped around her scruff.

Cornelius' soft voice was muffled by her mane.

In the distance Leanne could faintly hear the commands of the Gaoler Elders. They barked out orders to get the Horrorbeast contained.

Leanne screeched at Cornelius, "Release me Cornelius! Ladarius! Ladarius, he-!"

Leanne yowled when Cornelius dragged her backward and pinned her. Leanne's eyes watered when she felt her mane rip out of Cornelius' grip from the impact.

Cornelius fought her to keep her down. "Stand down Leanne! Don't you feel it? This magic aura! Stop panicking and look!"

Leanne couldn't stop her eyes from following Cornelius' extended forepaw. She saw the Horrorbeast with vile Shade infused darkness swirling about it's hideous visage. However she also heard the shocked cries of the other Gaolers. Leanne focused further and spotted a brilliant light within the Horrorbeast. Her mind reached out to Ladarius and felt his calm. She gasped with relief. Her brother was alive!

That light Leanne saw within the Horrorbeast grew larger and brighter. A bizarre drone overtook the cries of the Gaolers in the arena. The audience fell into an anxious silence when the drone stopped and the light within the Horrorbeast disappeared. A shrill scream erupted from the Horrorbeast when the light returned in a stunning explosion. The brilliance of the light forced Leanne to look away. She could feel the power behind the magic and it chilled her bones. When the heat subsided, Leanne chanced a peek and she felt her jaw drop.

Ladarius stood, slightly hunched over with his flanks heaving. Violet and red bolts of magic crackled around him and across the floor of the area. Blue-ish white flower petals swirled everywhere on the magic charged air, originating from the unusual patch of flowers that surrounded Ladarius. There was no sign of the Shade Horrorbeast. Ladarius' ears flicked and he slowly lifted his head. His body shifted in place until his eyes locked onto Leanne.

Leanne produced a heavy sigh. Her lips pulled into a smile. She could hear the Gaolers of the arena roaring in jubilation.

Cornelius settled beside Leanne. His voice was filled with awe, "What in the...? How...? He destroyed a Shade Horrorbeast!"

Leanne stood up on her hind legs and bellowed, "Yeah! That's my brother! You showed that Horrorbeast!"

Leanne smiled. She never wanted to lose the feeling of pride she had right now. Her brother, as with all of the other trial contestants, was only supposed to avoid the Shade Horrorbeast until the timer stopped.

A commanding bellow silenced the arena.

Leanne turned her head to look toward the Gaoler Elders. It was time to know whether Ladarius was to be acknowledged as an adult Gaoler, receive his name, and receive his Order invitation.

A grizzled old Gaoler female, with silvery notes in her fur, stood up. "In the name of the Gaoler Elders and in the place of our great Father the Icewarden, I hereby give this young Gaoler the name Tyr with the surname Bloodmoon to honor his prowess in battle on this night! May the walls of the Fortress of Ends tremble with our hearty welcome for this young adult! Hail Tyr Bloodmoon!"

Leanne stood on her haunches and roared. She heard Cornelius join his voice in the united roar that shook the arena.

Once silence reigned again, a new Gaoler Elder stood up. His mane was a stunning icy blue. "Tyr Bloodmoon! It is my honor as the Elder of the Sentinel Order to extend my invitation! Your might against that Shade Horrorbeast is just what we need to safeguard the Fortress of Ends!"

Similarly the Elders of the other Orders extended their invitations.

Leanne folded her ears. A thought dawned on her. If Ladarius became a Sentinel, then he would not be able to leave the Fortress of Ends. Leanne earned her place in the Seeker Order, as did Cornelius, so Leanne was under the impression that Ladarius would also be invited to join the Seeker Order. Her heart started to ache. She wanted to go home, back to the Crystal Spire, with Cornelius and Ladarius at her side. That was where they belonged.

Leanne turned her head to look at Ladarius. His expression was stoic and his gaze was focused on the Gaoler Elders.

Silence fell over the arena as the Gaolers waited for Ladarius' answer. Ladarius' gaze did not move from the Elders however his strong voice echoed across the arena. "May I reflect on the invitations extended and give my answer on the morrow?"

The first Gaoler Elder that spoke nodded her head. "Permission is granted. Now! Everyone return to your posts!"

The Gaolers of the arena filtered out of the various exits. Leanne leapt over the rail and charged for her brother. She rammed into him and buried her snout in his broad chest. She inhaled his familiar scent from his snowy fur. Her shoulders trembled when she felt his wings brush over her in an embrace.

Leanne mumbled, "Don't scare me like that..."

Before Ladarius could answer, Cornelius spoke up from behind Leanne. "That was phenomenal Ladarius! Wherever did these flowers come from? What kind of spell was that?"

Leanne growled when she felt Ladarius pull away. She straightened up and cast a glance down at the sandy floor of the arena. The blueish-white flowers were familiar to her. They grew in the Starwood Strand back in the Starfall Isles.

Ladarius rumbled, "It was a spell that our father taught me. He told me that our Grandmother utilized the spell to eliminate Shadebeasts and purge her territory of the Shade's influence. It's a shame though that this battle was inside this arena. The flowers will die of the cold."

Cornelius hummed. "A pity for certain. However I find it much more agreeable than a rampaging Shade Horrorbeast."

Ladarius snorted. "You and me both. Come, let's get settled for the night. I am tired."

Leanne followed Ladarius and Cornelius to their chambers in the barracks. Cornelius fell asleep readily enough. Leanne on the other paw had trouble finding sleep. She felt uneasy and realized that her sense of unease was originating from Ladarius. Leanne lifted her head and saw that her brother's nest was empty. She got up and followed his trail to the snowy wastes outside of the Fortress.

Leanne finally found Ladarius deep in the middle of nowhere. He stood atop a snowy hill with his eyes lifted toward the sky.

Leanne spoke up, "You aren't typically one for late night wanderings."

Ladarius looked at her. "Leanne."

Leanne walked up to stand in front of Ladarius. "So, what troubles you?"

Ladarius sighed. "I'm going to accept the Sentinel Order's invitation to join."

Leanne felt her heart sink. She dug her claws into the snow. A shaky laugh erupted from her. "Haha, what? Surely you joke, brother. We... We were all going to go back to the Crystal Spire..."

Ladarius shook his head. "I can't..."

Leanne felt a twinge of anger rise within her. "Can't? Or won't?"

Ladarius bowed his head. His ears folded tight against his head. He held the pose for a few tense moments before he lifted his head to look at the stars again. "I... There is nothing for me back there..."

Leanne glared at Ladarius. She growled, "What about our mother? Our Father?"

Ladarius shook his head. "I've failed them both..."

Leanne snarled. "Once. You only failed them once! I failed them too! We can go back now! To save them!"

Ladarius fixed Leanne in a glare. "How can I save anyone if I can barely save myself from a Horrorbeast?! No... I can't go back..."

Leanne's fur bristled and she arched her back. "What is this nonsense? You're taking the coward's way out! You're afraid!"

Ladarius growled, "Leanne! Think for just a moment!"

Leanne was about to respond, consumed with her anger, however a rich and thunderous male voice echoed around them.

"Ladarius..."

Ladarius' eyes widened and his brow creased with concern. "Er... Leanne?"

Leanne felt her blood run cold. "That...that wasn't me..."

The masculine voice hauntingly thundered again, "Ladarius... Have you forgotten me so easily?"

Ladarius' eyes widened. He whimpered, "No... Father..."

Leanne looked up at the sky and saw the stars moved. "Ladarius, look!"

Leanne pointed at the moving stars. The stars that moved mimicked a Skydancer's walk, as if they were one body approaching Leanne and Ladarius. The stars stopped and it was obvious that the stars were in the shape of Leanne and Ladarius' father Arcyng Leo'Animus. Starry Arcyng's countenance was locked in a concerned frown.

Arcyng's voice thundered again, "Ladarius... You have forgotten me?"

Ladarius cried out, "No! How could I?!"

Leanne whined, "Father...!"

Arcyng's voice rumbled, "You have forgotten who you are... and thus have forgotten me..."

Arcyng's voice hummed. "Look inside yourself Ladarius... you must take your place at the Crystal Spire..."

Ladarius barked, "But how can I go back? I'm not who I used to be..."

The starry Arcyng's four wings flapped, creating a gust of wind that blasted snow at Ladarius and Leanne. Arcyng's powerful voice thundered, "Remember who you are... You are Audens'Cor Ladarius... my valiant son... it is no easy feat to purge a Horrorbeast..."

Arcyng began to fade. The stars moved to return to normal.

Ladarius broke into a run. "Wait no, Father!"

Leanne leapt after Ladarius. "Come back father!"

Arcyng's voice hauntingly echoed, "Remember..."

Ladarius skidded to a halt and stared as the stars returned to normal. Ladarius' eyes watered and his voice was a pitiful whine, "Father..."

Leanne caught up with Ladarius. Leanne's sides heaved from the exertion of the run. "By the great mother's grace... That was... That was..."

Ladarius stared at the sky. It was several tense moments before he finally spoke. "Leanne... I... Thank you. For getting me so riled up..."

Leanne tilted her head. She then smiled and produced a sharp laugh. "Ha, just like old times! Father would always break up the arguments you and I used to get into..."

Her moment of reminiscing was over. Leanne softened her tone. "Hey... are you feeling any better?"

Ladarius smiled. "My heart aches... but yes. I know what I need to do, thanks to you and father. Don't worry. You... Cornelius... and I... All three of us will be Seekers and return to the Crystal Spire. Together."

Leanne stepped up to her brother and nudged his chin. "That's the spirit. We've got a tyrant to overthrow after all."
...

A gentle breeze rippled through the ancient boughs of Starwood trees. Pale, bone white wood sparkled like starlight when gentle rays of dappled sunlight made it through the shimmering blue-purple leaves. The voices of six adult Gaolers, rich and rumbling, filled the trees with warm camaraderie. Their great frames, heavily furred, were a motley bunch that dotted the base of a titanic Starwood tree. Verdant grasses, an emerald green that could rival anything the Gladekeeper grew, bowed and danced merrily. The swaying grasses tickled the delicate snout of a tiny Gaoler pup. His mottled maroon pelt rippled as the pup arched his neck and sneezed.

Violet eyes wide, the tiny Gaoler pup yipped in alarm. Charging at him was his sister, her tawny pelt shone in the dappled sunlight. In swift strides, she tackled her maroon pelted brother and together they tumbled down the hill that their family was picnicking at. Little did the youths know that the hill turned into a steep cliff further down the slope, and they were wrestling toward it.

An alarmed roar boomed from nearby, the rich female voice filled with maternal worry. “Orion, Andromeda!”

Too engrossed in their play, Orion and Andromeda looked to their mother Leanne only briefly. It looked like she was getting up as swiftly as her limbs were able to. Orion and Andromeda chirped merrily in response. They thought that Leanne, the one they thought as their mother, was going to come wrestle with them. With a swift bite from Andromeda, the pair of hatchlings returned to mock squeaks and growls. Their fun was cut short when a great shadow fell over them and stopped their tussle.

Massive white paws crushed verdant grass. His blood red mane was haloed by the dappled sunlight and framed the bull Gaoler’s white and red face. Vicious tusks broke through the lion-like gums of his fierce countenance. Violet eyes gleamed with stern command. The bull Gaoler, who the hatchlings knew as their uncle Ladarius, rumbled with a voice that could rival thunder.

“Stop.”

Bowing their bodies and tucking their tails under their bellies, Orion and Andromeda looked up at Ladarius with moon-eyed surprise.

As the silence began to drag on, Ladarius’s eyes softened to a shimmering gleam. His lips twitched, as if struggling to hide his amusement. He bowed toward the hatchlings and swept them up in a great forepaw. Depositing them back on their paws, only facing the other adult Gaolers, Ladarius bumped them into motion with a nudge of his snout. He said, “Everyone is playing over there. Go, wrestle under the Starwood tree.”

He purred conspiratorially. “The first one to successfully wrestle your father’s spell book from him gets to fly with me this afternoon.”

A unified gasp of delight erupted from both Orion and Andromeda. They ran away from Ladarius toward the other adult Gaolers. Their target was the one they knew as their father, Cornelius. Cornelius, only had briefly glanced in Ladarius's direction to check that the hatchlings were secure, was oblivious to Ladarius's deal to the hatchlings. Clasped in one mottled grey and black forepaw was Cornelius's spellbook, a rough and well-worn collection of parchment bound in leather.

Leanne, having finally forced her relaxed limbs to cooperate, let the two hatchlings go toward Cornelius. Instead, her target was her brother. She rumbled as she drew close to Ladarius, "You're terrible."

Ladarius flicked a left ear and huffed. He jerked his snout upward in a challenging manner. His voice held no malice, only amusement. "Cornelius only has himself to blame, making himself an easy target."

A surprised yelp erupted from behind Leanne. Cornelius was suddenly being swarmed by not just Orion and Andromeda, but the three other Gaoler pups as well. All of the Gaoler babies wanted a chance to fly with Ladarius. Leanne produced a warm purr as she turned her head to watch. She only inhaled deeply when Ladarius joined her.

Between them both, Leanne could feel a cloud of unease. There was a tension that radiated off of Ladarius's large frame that she could only hope the hatchlings didn't sense. Leanne hissed, "Are you sure you want it this way...? We could tell-"

Ladarius shook his head to the negative. "Don't breathe a word. Even the trees have ears."

Leanne bowed her head and closed her eyes. "Ok."

Ladarius purred. "It'll turn out alright Leanne. Just enjoy yourself. I'll make sure the little furballs don't go tumbling into the Red Moon Sea."

Leanne teased, "No, of course you won't let that happen. It's not like you led us into a hostile Serthis nest, no, no."

Ladarius protested, "I was a hatchling back then!"

Leanne purred. "Easy there. You're so stiff. What happened to playful Uncle Ladarius five minutes ago?"

Ladarius groused, "He hasn't gone anywhere."

Leanne nodded. "Good, you can let Sentinel Ladarius have a break. Come eat."

The Titan Age
Ardens Cor Leanne was not hatched in this bygone era.

The Pantheon Age
Ardens'Cor Leanne and her brother Audens'Cor Ladarius are a pair of unique twins. They inherited their father’s ability, the Titan ability, to pick their shape from the genes available to them in their lineage. The magic that affected them as eggs, the blizzard that forced their family to take refuge in a snow cave, impacted that decision. They knew they needed to be something that could guide their family out of the snow. Thus, they found their shape in the deep past, many genes that were recessed and supposedly gone were activated. They hatched as Gaolers near the end of this era.
In her hatchling days, Ardens'Cor Leanne was just as reckless as her brother Audens'Cor Ladarius. At the goading of her brother, she went with him to a Serthis den and almost got into serious trouble. Fortunately her father was there to save her and her brother that day. Since then she dedicated herself to learning the art of hunting from her Aunt Vafer'Venandi. When she was old enough to hold her own in a hunt or fight, that was when the residents of the Hallowed Hall rose up against her father. Ardens'Cor Leanne fought ferociously against the Angels of Rebirth. She thought that their victory was assured. Oh how she was wrong. She was witness to the aftermath of her father's imprisonment.

The New Age
Ardens'Cor Leanne is the fiery huntress of the pair. In many ways she is misconstrued as being fearless. She has many fears, she just decides to hide them behind a playful yet ferocious demeanor. She supports her brother in his endeavors, but that doesn't mean she can't tease him every now and again. With his dour demeanor, Ardens'Cor Leanne tries even harder to cheer him up. He will answer with a grim countenance, she will answer with a teasing smirk. In that way, she balances him out just as much as he does her. She did not anticipate bringing the rogue Gaoler Cornelius into the growing group of friends and family that her brother seemed to collect. She does not regret it though. Cornelius was a fascinating stranger when Ardens'Cor Leanne met him. He taught her and her brother just what being a Gaoler meant. She traveled with him and her brother to the headquarters of the Gaolers in the Southern Icefield to receive their designation. Proudly enduring the tests, Ardens'Cor Leanne became a Seeker just like Cornelius. She admired her brother's bravery to turn down the invitation to be a Sentinel.
In time, with the knowledge that she accumulated, Ardens'Cor Leanne became the Captain of the Hunters. She works hard to feed her clan, her family, but also works diligently beside her brother to try and free their father. Unfortunately, prey is grows scarce and more often than not Ardens'Cor Leanne is the target for Tenebris'Terra's ire. It breaks Ardens'Cor Leanne's heart to see her brother charge in at the last minute to take her punishment. She wishes that she was stronger. That way her brother would stop trying to baby her and maybe take care of himself for a change.

Dripcave Deputy
Familiar
Ardens'Cor Leanne's familiar was intended to be Audens'Cor Ladarius' gift to be a Sentinel. When he declined, the Dripcave Deputy was given to Ardens'Cor Leanne. She was happy to take on the new enlistee. Despite its training, it has proven adaptable and capable of keeping up with her in the field during hunts. It is a quiet companion, which Ardens'Cor Leanne appreciates since her cousin Mane'Solis has enough gift for gab for the entire team.
