Lore

. Ladarius' and Leanne's mother and father sat together with crests pressed together in deep conversation atop a hill that overlooked the Forest of Whispers. The discoloration of Arcyng's faceted left eye, followed by the deep veined scars that marred his face and down his neck, only lent to the severity of angry aura radiating off the royal Skydancer. His voice growled his stubborn insistence. Firanira's gentle voice sang with passionate denial as she seemed equally insistent.

Ladarius could only dread what his parents were arguing about. He could vividly remember how fierce both Skydancers were when they charged into the Serthis hoard that was ready to tear Ladarius and his sister apart. Ladarius could still feel how swift, how tight, and how the scent of terror and anger flooded his nostrils when his mother's foreleg scooped both his sister and himself tight to her chest. It was that moment that first alerted Ladarius to the danger he had led his sister into and only the precursor to the scolding he should expect.

Firanira's beautiful voice growled louder now, "He is only a hatchling!"

"You're making excuses for him," responded Arcyng, "Take Leanne with you back to the Crystal Spire with the others. I need to teach our son a lesson."

Firanira opened her maw to protest however Arcyng captured the right side of her head with his left forepaw. His talons disappeared into the feathers of her crest as he pressed the left side of his head to hers. A whisper danced between the two that seemed to melt the tension from Firanira's body. She drew away slowly from Arcyng with her eyes locked on his.

Firanira murmured, "He is only a hatchling..."

Arcyng stood with head held high. His voice rumbled, "We won't be far behind."

This seemed to satisfy Firanira. She walked closer to where Ladarius and Leanne sat under the careful watch of Vigilans'Praesul, Divinus'Ignis, and Jason. Arcyng's trio of retainers sat up with backs stiff at the approach of the Matriarch.

Firanira lowered her head to give Ladarius a gentle nudge of her head. Her warm scent surrounded Ladarius and eased his nerves somewhat. Firanira then turned her gaze onto Leanne and caught Leanne's scruff in her jaws.

"Mama," Leanne squeaked with protest as she was lifted into the air. Her tiny paws, wings, and fluffy tail curled close to her belly. Leanne whined, "But Ladarius!"

Ladarius could feel his sister's concern in his mind. It only fueled his own fears. This was the first time that they ever got into this much trouble. This was the first time that Ladarius and Leanne were actually separated on purpose. It was a foreign loneliness that began to set in Ladarius' heart. He did not like it.

”We'll see you home Firanira,” said Divinus'Ignis. The trio of Arcyng's retainers rose to their paws and fell into a protective formation around Firanira. Despite the distance they had from the scene of the battle, the retainers were still plenty on edge. Ladarius could see it in how Divinus'Ignis' gaze shifted to search the surrounding area. Even Vigilans'Praesul radiated unease with his back rigid and tail lashing side to side.

“Ladarius!”

The commanding bark of his father’s deep voice resounded in Ladarius’ ears as the cruel reminder of what he and his sister were just rescued from. He flinched and cowered low to the ground.

Aureus'Oculi Jason's coarse voice rumbled in his trademark rhyming slang. It was a good thing that Ladarius understood what the lean Imperial male was saying. "Don't dawdle, pup. Best to go to his side now."

Soon, it was only Arcyng and Ladarius that occupied the hilltop. The stars gleamed above and in the distance the Crystal Spire stood out like a shining beacon. The Red Moon Sea was calm and reflected the amazing scene.

Ladarius swallowed the lump in his throat and crept up the slope of the hill. He crept forward with his head held low until he nearly bumped his snout into his father’s coiled tail. His downcast eyes saw his fluffy little paw was in the imprint left by his father. His father’s paw was so large. Would he ever be able to fit in those paw prints? Shaking his head, Ladarius moved around his father and sat to his right. His head remained bowed.

The silence was tense. Only the wind whispering through the grass could be heard. The Crystal Spire sparkled radiantly in the moonlight beyond the small stretch of forest below the hill they were sitting on.

Ladarius opened his maw to speak but his father’s voice rumbled overhead.

“Ladarius, I am very disappointed in you.”

Ladarius whimpered, “I know...”

“You put your sister and yourself in danger. You could have been hurt!”

“I was just trying to be brave like you,” declared Ladarius, “You’re not scared of anything!”

“I was scared today...”

Ladarius could not keep the disbelief out of his voice, “You were?”

He lifted his head to look up at his father. His eyes widened as he saw the tense frown dominate his father’s maw and the dark, distant gleam within the facets of his father’s violet eye. In the moonlight, his father’s profile shimmered because of the light pink scars adorning his body. Even now Ladarius could see the fresh wounds his father had becoming more pink scars. Then Ladarius saw his father’s expression change to something extraordinary. His father’s eyes gleamed with a deep sadness.

Arcyng’s deep voice rushed out as a heavy sigh, “Yes.”

Ladarius leaned back when his father’s face came close to look him in the eye.

“I thought this was the path that I would lose you both,” rumbled Arcyng, “I was terrified.”

“But,” said Ladarius, “You’re the God of Heroes! I've never seen you scared of anything! You always charge into battle with no fear.”

“I am only able to do that because I have mastered my fear,” answered Arcyng, “Ladarius. Bravery and courage do not mean that there isn’t fear. Fear keeps us alert. It helps us feel alive. Fear, keeps us from being reckless. Being the God of Heroes does not mean that I go looking for trouble. I do my best to ensure that dragons follow their correct path, wherever that will lead.”

Ladarius looked down at the ground. “Oh, so even Gods get scared too?”

Arcyng answered firmly, “Yes.”

Ladarius looked up at his father, the beginning of a smile forming, “But you know what? I bet those Serthis were terrified!”

Arcyng’s rumbling laugh answered Ladarius. “That’s because no one messes with your mother and father!”

Ladarius yelped when his father grabbed his antlers and playfully pulled him this way and that. Before long they were both laughing and eventually their laughter subsided and Ladarius was batting at his father’s paw to keep him from grabbing his antlers again.

"Father," said Ladarius, "When I get bigger, you and I will be able to fight side by side! Together!"

Arcyng Leo'Animus pulled his paw away and settled back into sitting on his haunches. His gaze was staring off into the distance once again. “Ladarius,” started Arcyng Leo'Animus, “It is time that I tell you something that my father told me...”
...

Ladarius felt his heart pounding in his throat. All around him thundered the voices of dragons locked in combat. Magic of all elements crackled and collided. Ladarius was not searching for that though. His eyes flashed this way and that, trying to find his father in the chaos. He couldn’t even hear his father or smell him!

Ladarius was struggling to hold down his hysteria. His breath was turning into harsh gasps despite how healthy he was. There was a sudden squeal to his right and Ladarius’ head spun to look. Coiled around a familiar was his own familiar Valora, a formidable Venomblade Assassin. Valora glared and hissed at Ladarius, "Pull yourself together Bloodmane!"

“Thank you,” panted Ladarius, “You’re right. I can’t lose my head. He has to be here. He has to!”

Valora nodded and pointed a sword toward a spot in the battlefield. She dropped the unconscious familiar from her coils. Ladarius followed and spotted Vigilans'Praesul fighting Mollis'Somnus in a savage display of strength. Ladarius could hardly believe the lethargic Skydancer could even go claw to claw with Vigilans'Praesul. However Ladarius needed to get over there. If any dragon knew where his father was, it would be one of his retainers.

Ladarius barreled his way through the fighting. He used his antlers to catch dragons that got in his way and toss them aside. “Vigilans!”

A terrible realization dawned on Ladarius that made him freeze in his tracks. Why were they all still awake? Mollis'Somnus could put them all in a deep sleep in the blink of an eye. Why wasn’t he? Why was he fighting Vigilans'Praesul?

Mollis Somnus’ lips curled to reveal his fangs in a sneering smile. “It’s at the edge of your thoughts, young one. I won’t interfere though, I think there is something almost poetic about a son searching for his father... like a lost puppy! Ha!”

“Villain,” snapped Vigilans'Praesul. He head butted Mollis'Somnus which sent the Skydancer stumbling back and shaking his head. Vigilans'Praesul glared and turned to speak but Ladarius was already gone.

Panting with anxiety, Ladarius raced up the spiraling slope. “Look to the Spire,” recited Ladarius as he was reminded of that fateful day in his hatchling years, “When you feel lost and alone...”

Ladarius felt like he was a hatchling once again, hearing his father’s voice of a lesson that he heard from his father. His paws continued to carry him up the sloping crystal tunnel.

“Know that the spirits of all who slumber and dream are with you to offer support...”

Titan’s Rest, that had to be the chamber his father was in, the great hall at the pinnacle of the Crystal Spire where his grandparents sleep in crystal surrounded by the sleeping members of their court. Why would he be up there when the fighting was down below? Ladarius pushed himself onward.

“One day..,”

Ladarius was at the level. He ran for the open arch in the tunnel. When he turned the corner to step inside Titan’s Rest, his body froze.

“I will join them...”

A shrill roar echoed in Ladarius’ ears. It took him a moment to realize that the horrible sound came from his own throat. His eyes could not pull away from the sight. That horrible, heart-stopping sight!

Arcyng Leo'Animus was halfway encased in crystal. His eyes opened slowly and he looked serene as he turned his gaze to Ladarius. He watched his son run for him and slam into the growing crystal.

“This can’t be happening,” thundered Ladarius as he slammed his body repeatedly against the crystal. “No, no, NO!”

“Ladarius,” said Arcyng Leo'Animus gently.

“Get out of there father,” demanded Ladarius.

“I’m afraid,” hissed a fell voice, “that such a thing is not possible. He will be stopped, frozen in crystal just like my own father.”

“What,” snarled Ladarius. He turned toward the speaker to see his cousin Tenebris'Cor with claws glowing with Arcane magic, casting the crystal prison spell. Ladarius barked, “You traitor! Release him at once!”

Tenebris'Cor’s eyes glittered menacingly from under his mask. “You will not order your new Patriarch around, whelp. I am saving us all.”

“Saving us,” scoffed Ladarius, “My new Patriarch? There is only one! My father! You’re nothing more than a usurper!”

Tenebris'Cor snorted. “Call me what you will. I AM saving us, saving the clan. I’m the new Patriarch of Sanguinem Luna. Isn’t that right, Mystic?”

Ladarius almost forgot. The old Titan Tacet'Mare remained awake to protect his sleeping Matriarch and his friends. Ladarius followed Tenebris'Cor’s gaze and found Tacet'Mare, barely able to rise and coughing horribly.

“Did he do this to you,” demanded Ladarius.

“No,” rasped Tacet'Mare, “Noctis'Timore was in this chamber first...I tried to hold him off but...”

“He can’t be the new Patriarch though,” insisted Ladarius.

“He defeated his father and uncle in combat,” hissed Tacet'Mare as he was finally able to rise to his paws. “Albeit underhandedly, he is still the victor. There is one-“

“I do not accept that,” spat Ladarius, “I won’t ever accept that!”

Ladarius turned and charged Tenebris'Cor. His heart was aching with fury and his blood boiled in his veins. He didn't even register that Valora engaged Tenebris'Cor's monstrous Rat King in combat. Ladarius rammed into Tenebris'Cor, catching the Skydancer with his antlers and carried him into the tunnel wall outside Titan’s Rest. The impact had Ladarius’ head spinning just as fast as his anger. Wait, impact? He shouldn’t have felt that as hard as he did.

Before he could right himself, Tenebris'Cor was a whirlwind of claws and fangs with dark magic crackling. Ladarius couldn’t fight the onslaught and felt himself being driven back. Then his paws slipped on the sloped crystal floor. Tenebris'Cor was right on him, fighting him the whole way down to the main chamber where everyone else had been fighting. It was so quiet when Ladarius finally stopped rolling and slammed onto the floor. He couldn’t move, his body was too bruised and battered. It was as if all of the fight had been driven from him. Was that the magic that Tenebris'Cor used? Ladarius wasn’t sure.

His eyes weakly looked up to see the stunned faces of his clan. There was a thump to Ladarius' right and his eyes shifted to see Valora had been unceremoniously dropped beside him by the Rat King's jaws. A brief rush of relief struck Ladarius when he saw Valora's chest rising and falling. Ladarius could only feel crushing defeat weighing on him and he hid his face.

He failed...

The Titan Age
Audens'Cor Ladarius was not hatched in this bygone era.

The Pantheon Age
Ladarius and his sister Leanne are a pair of unique twins. They inherited their father’s ability, the Titan ability, to pick their shape from the genes available to them in their lineage. The magic that affected them as eggs, the blizzard that forced their family to take refuge in a snow cave, impacted that decision. They knew they needed to be something that could guide their family out of the snow. Thus, they found their shape in the deep past, many genes that were recessed and supposedly gone were activated. They hatched as Gaolers.

The New Age
Ladarius is the knightly figure of the pair. He is bold, unwavering, and devoted to whichever cause he believes to be just and true. In his youth, he foolhardedly led his sister into a serthis nest in order to prove to their father that they were warriors just as brave as him. The scolding that Ladarius received changed his life forever.
He grew to closely follow his father’s lead, learning every skill that the clan was willing to teach him. He found some of their frivolity a little wasteful but he put up with it to learn what they knew. When his father was betrayed by Tenebris'Cor, Ladarius felt the immense shame of defeat because he could not stop his cousin that day. He was inconsolable for a long time afterward. When he and his sister met the Gaoler Cornelius, he traveled with them to the headquarters of the Gaolers to receive their designation. Ladarius’ ferocious skills and devotion to his goal earned him the rank of Sentinel when he destroyed a Shade Horrorbeast in his Gaoler trials. This feat earned him the name Tyr Bloodmoon from the Gaoler Elders, as their acknowledgement of his battle prowess and as his "adult" Gaoler name. He took time to think about his future but in the end he declined the offer thanks to an unusual event he experienced with his sister.
In time, he followed the pawsteps of his uncle Divinus'Aurora to become the future Captain of the Day’s Watch. He trained tirelessly, driven by the new goal to free his father.

On incident fueled Ladarius' devotion to his cause. Before Aeterna'Tempus, one of Ladarius' uncles on his father's side, entered the crystal slumber; he imparted a chilling message to Ladarius. Inside Titan's Rest, before Noctis'Timore's prison, Aeterna'Tempus imparted the following prophecy:

Call this changing of the guard the New Age if you must;
however I know such a thing to be only a fantasy's dust.

The Terror of the Night does not stop;
never to yield;
As assuredly the Great Mother's blessings lie atop;
He would send us all to a carrion field.

Beware, son whose heart beats to the rhythm of valiance;
The Betrayer hunts all who show him defiance.

The Divine King that stepped aside;
Whom bravely did yield;
Would not simply abide;
To see the future strewn across that carrion field.

To my words should you hearken;
For the Terror of the Night will awaken.

Ladarius was struck by the dire prophecy, although he couldn't quite grasp all that Aeterna'Tempus meant. One thing was for certain. Ladarius would not stop until the Crystal Spire had its true Patriarch once more.

Venomblade Assassin
Valora the Venomblade Assassin
Valora is the Venomblade Assassin in Ladarius’ company. She was one of the Serthis that was in the nest that Ladarius and Leanne went to as hatchlings. Of course, she was a lot younger then. This sassy Serthis was much like Ladarius in that the events of that nest raid changed her life. Valora was determined to avenge her nest and sought out Ladarius when she was old enough. What she didn’t anticipate was that Ladarius was much harder of a target to go after. In a botched attempt on Ladarius’ life Valora found herself at Ladarius’ mercy. What came after her stunt was a profitable deal between the two. Ladarius would pay Valora and she would work for him. This went on for several years but the experiences of surviving fight after fight together changed Valora’s demeanor toward Ladarius. She started refusing payment but remained at Ladarius’ side. Nowadays there is a strong bond between Ladarius and Valora. She slightly regrets the nickname that she gave Ladarius long ago but nonetheless still uses it.

The Rise of Ladarius: Valiant Heart
Wind nips at him. Cold, so cold. Fear, not his. No, but he is not safe. Help. They love him, he has to help. Around him, there is only silence, lethargy. Static fills his ears. It is dark, mercilessly dark. A void that consumes slowly, guarantees fear and suffering. He can’t do anything. He has to help.

He feels something, deep in his core. Something buried so far down within, it hurts to bring it to the surface. He feels it digging up, up, up. Feels its warmth. He has to help. He knows, next to him, she’s thinking the same. They feel the same heat spread out through them, feel it overtaking them.

Suddenly, it is too much for his carapace. He must unfurl, let the magic flow through his veins. He must live, now, right now. He shifts and stretches out. He flinches. A sharp sound resonates through his body, through the cave. The sound of life.

Ladarius.... How do I even describe what I feel!!! I took it upon myself to at least skim through his long bio and the art... THE ART IS JUST BEAUTIFUL!!! I love the one you did and the first gijinka piece! I also love the one with him and the skydancer. He looks like a shy awkward baby in that one. He's so regal and profound I can only imagine what all of his lore says. I bet it is lovely and extremely well written. The variety of art all show his eyes in some form of pain or internal hurt or in some confidence and I can only imagine the depth of this character you have. There is only so much we write about our characters and there is some feelings and attachment to them that can not be described with words. He is truly a beautiful dragon and I love every bit of him.

Holding your head up high, proud with the memory of your father; ignoring shifty glances and muttered rumors, knowing your own mission deep in your heart; even the softness of your royal bedding cannot calm your rage at the injustice your father has suffered; always scheming dramatic ways to overcome Tenebris Cor, but never carrying it out because it would only disturb the clan; avoiding crystal except for when you're alone and you get lost in the memories, your tears mixing with the shining surface; trying to act fine, haughty, the way you're supposed to be... but to hold the wellbeing of the clan in your highest regard is also to care so incredibly deeply

His bio is precious T.T... also I took a bit of liberty with this because your lore is more narrative driven than personality descriptor so I hope that's okay! [...] <3 Thanks!

I once measured
My paw against yours
Boldly outlined in the snow
I always knew I had big shoes to fill
How I wish I could hear your voice again
You once explained to me
The difference between
Bravery and foolishness

The age of titans has long passed
And though you are gone,
You are with me still
When you feel lost and alone,
Look to the spire.....
And Father, I have, I have
Though it is not the same
The times have changed

I wonder what you'd think of me -
If you could see me now
I failed once you know,
But I will wait and bide my time
Till the time is right
I will not rest until I set it right
And I will usher in a new age

Racing, searching
Father! Father!

Monsters fight
in front of me

Why did you go?
My father! My father!

Arcane magic
reaches for me

Trapped in Crystal
Traitor! Traitor!

I hear your voice echo
'Even gods get scared'

But I need you
You are strong and wise

I was foolish
don't leave me!

I will wait for you
Someday! Someday....

you've drawn much strength from your past and failings so far. but is that all they have done, or has some part of it also shackled you, instead? if faced with a confrontation against tenebris cor again, do you believe that you have grown strong enough to emerge victorious— now, as you are?

first to third lair tab and first hibden tab are all game!

A soft wind whistled between the petal-like ledges of the Crystal Spire. A gentle echoing crash of water resounded off the facets of the gigantic crystal structure. Perched on the edge of one of these ledges, Audens'Cor Ladarius closed his eyes and inhaled deeply. The wind toyed with his mane, matted and stained dark crimson in places from the trials he has endured.

His left ear twitched, as if picking up on something whispered in the air.

Audens'Cor Ladarius' rich voice rumbled from deep within him. "That is... embarrassing. My failings must be truly phenomenal to attract the attention of strangers. However I can not ignore that you present a lot of words trying to ask two simple questions. Am I afraid to fight Tenebris'Cor again? Will I win if I do fight?"

Silence reigned. Audens'Cor Ladarius' eyes eased open and he looked out at the floating island before him. He whispered, "It is an interesting word choice, shackled. I would be lying if I said I wasn't afraid but..."

His head turned slightly to look at his inquiring guest. "I was never NOT afraid to begin with. I am always afraid. Afraid of making that fatal error that will cost me everything that I cherish. My father, my mother, my sister, and my entire clan... Our home..."

Audens'Cor Ladarius curled his lip and shook his head. "If I let that fear chain me down as you imply, I may as well condemn my entire clan to an eternity of misery. I will not abide that. I am no fool however. If I were to just drop everything right now and challenge Tenebris'Cor to a duel. I would lose. No. I will only win if I control the fight. He is too alert right now, too wary of rebellion. He'd call the Angels to put me down faster than a rabid wolf. I would die before I even touched him."

Audens'Cor Ladarius nodded. "Patience and time will be my allies. Tenebris'Cor and his minions will grow complacent. My time will come... and when it does..."

His eyes burned bright and his lips curled to bare every single fang. "Everything will be on the line. I will fight with every fiber of my being to bring a new dawn to my clan. I will win. Failure will not be an option."
