July, the Thunder Moon
Witchborne dragons under the Thunder Moon are the front line fighters, but unlike most dragons who would rush headlong into a fight, these Witchborne fight with a deadly and swift grace. They favor slender, lighter attacks for a faster, more elegant fighting style, instead of the hacking and slashing. They prefer not to wear heavy armor, sacrificing protection for speed, using greater agility to dodge or deflect incoming attacks. Like the element this moon brings them, these Witchborne deal with their opponents suddenly and swiftly, never staying in one place, always moving, looking for a weak spot where they may strike with accurate precision their worst. Nevertheless, they have a bright disposition and easily uplift others just by being in their presence, but always are attuned to whenever danger lurks nearby.

"The best swordsman in the world may be disarmed by a trick that's new to him."
The wind was howling, pushing the tops of the trees back and forth, testing the strength of their limbs. The clouds were rolling in, threatening rain, and making the evening sky dark and bringing about an early nightfall. It had been a long journey, and nothing had been the same since leaving the warmth of the nest. These past few weeks have been hard on Eliphas. He was supposed to be heading to his new home but instead the hatchling dragon had become lost in the Tangled Wood.

Walking through the bramble and thicket, Eliphas glanced at the sky hoping that the rain would hold off until he was able to find some shelter. Over the past weeks, he was able to find a couple different caves to spend the night in as well as some edible bugs and herbs to sustain him for a few more days. But the grueling elements were taking their toll on him. If he didn’t find a dragon clan soon, he wasn't sure how much longer he would last. At this point, he actually considered himself lucky that he hadn’t run into any beastclans yet.

As Eliphas was searching around for a place to spend the night, he noticed a faint glow in the distance. Heading in that direction, he began to hear voices and sound coming from what appeared to be a large cobblestone building. Creeping closer, he hid behind a tree and looked towards the entrance. There above the large oak door was a sign that read, “The Purple Dragon Tavern” in large letters while under it, mounted to the door, was a plaque that read, “Home for wayward dragons.” Shrugging, Eliphas muttered to himself, “well if I don’t fit that definition, I don’t know who does.” So he wandered up to the door and pulled on the wrought iron handle.

Inside the tavern there were multiple large tables along which there were many dragons of different shapes and sizes eating, drinking, and conversing with each other. A barmaid was running back and forth to the bar serving drinks to the patrons. Eliphas slipped inside and closed the door. Heading towards a corner of the room by the fireplace, he took a seat next to a table full of younger, adolescent dragons, only slightly older than himself. They were joyfully chatting about something that happened earlier in the day, laughing and waving their drinks in the air. Trying to make out more of their conversation, Eliphas inched closer, leaning in slightly towards the group. Suddenly, a large shadow appeared over him and he turned to see a large purple guardian dragon looming over him.

“You must be new to these parts,” the guardian grumbled. “Don’t get too many youngsters wandering around this tavern.”

Looking up at the large dragon, Eliphas squared his shoulders and smiled, “I saw the sign on the door and was hoping I could be a wayward dragon.”

The large dragon grunted, “Well, I guess dragons like you are the reason I started this place. My name is Morgathol and I’m the owner. Welcome to the Purple Dragon Tavern. You should go check in with Nightcomet, he will give you some food and any potions for possible ailments that you may have. He’s the third door down on the right, should be standing over a cauldron of some sort.” With that, Morgathol walked away, leaving Eliphas looking toward the hallway that was indicated to him.

Idol.png It had been a couple months since Eliphas had stumbled into the Purple Dragon Tavern and he was really starting to fit in with the conglomeration of different dragon personalities present in the clan. As requested, he had gone to find Nightcomet on the first night and since then began learning the art of alchemy and potion making. Nightcomet taught him all about different herbs and fungi that could be used to make an assortment of different brews from those that help dragons heal to ones that could knock out an opponent with one drop. He was fascinated by the mystical nature of combining simple items and producing extraordinary things. A little too fascinated according to Nightcomet. The disgruntled dragon kept getting annoyed at Eliphas who would constantly be asking questions, touching things, and outright just being a bother. He never had much patience for dealing with younger dragons.

One day while Nightcomet was working on one of the more dangerous brews for a team of dragons heading to fight the beastclans, Eliphas sauntered into the room and over to the cauldron.
“I wouldn’t get too close to that if I were you,” grumbled Nighcomet. “One drop of that could take the scales right off you.” Despite his dislike for the interruptions, Nightcomet occasionally enjoyed having Eliphas as a student and would rather not see anything bad happen to him.
“Don’t worry Nightcomet, I was only planning on drinking a cup of it, not a whole pint,” Eliphas chuckled.
Nightcomet rolled his eyes, “Hmph, I don’t know why I even try with you.” Taking out a ladle and scooping a large amount of the potion into a vial, Nightcomet stoppered the bottle and gestured to Eliphas, “Here son, take this over to the training area and give it to Firebringer. His team will need it for the next mission. Be sure to take it straight there, this is not to be taken lightly.”
“Sure thing boss, I’ll make sure to hand it to the first hatchling I see,” Eliphas smiled and headed toward the door.
Nightcomet yelled after him, “While you’re there, maybe stay awhile and train with them for a bit.” Mumbling to himself, “That way you won’t be bothering me all the time.”

Eliphas entered the training yard and took note of all of the dragons sparring with each other. To him, they seemed slow and clumsy with their large swords and dense armor. He had different ideas on the way to win against an opponent. Setting down the potion vial, Eliphas crouched around to the side of two sparring dragons, and silently pick up a thin bladed practice short sword. With lightning speed he swept into the fray and with quick reflexes he blocked both dragons’ weapons and swiftly disarmed them. With quizzical looks, the two dragons watched as he sauntered away with a satisfied smile on his face.

Picking up the potion, Eliphas went into the small wooden building at the back of the grounds. He walked up to Fire Bringer and placed the vial in front of him, “This is from Nightcomet, he said you could use it for your next mission.” With that, Eliphas started towards the door. In a deep voice, Firebringer spoke, “I saw what you did out there to those recruits. I haven’t seen that kind of swiftness in many a moon. If you are up to it, I think you may find that you would do well training here.” A slight smile came across Eliphas, “I think you may be right.”

Alphonse Louis Constant, better known as Eliphas Levi Zahed, is the man accountable for all the mystical arts we’re aware of today.
