B I O G R A P H Y
The leaves crunched underfoot as Merion and Comet slowly made their way down the well-traveled path of pressed dirt they had slowly carved over the last months. The Lightning guardian considered his friend silently, as they excitedly told him about their newest recruit, one that showed great promise in becoming a warrior for the Shadowbinder. Merion hummed along to whatever Comet was saying. Despite talking too much, he had grown fond of the younger dragon, and had even come to call him his friend. Yet, sometimes it was tiring to have a much younger dragon practically as his shadow. He was always so eager to speak about the dragons he had trained, whos' life-goal were to exalt themselves to their matron deity. As a veteran, it was hard to see a fresh face so eager for the bloodshed that the deities' war brought them; Comet wouldn't believe his words if he told him about the other side of war- the side that wasn't glorious combat. When he was younger, he was very much like Comet- excited for the fight, and always in the front-lines proving his worth with claws and teeth, or a sharp bolt from his Stormcatcher-esk wing-claws. That was until he saw the reality of the battles firsthand, the physiological damage it did. Even now, years later, he remembered that one moment that completely changed his battle-ready glazed eyes. In a single moment, as his ally's body blocked the vile bolt of a foe aimed for him, and collapsed, he understood the pain caused by the war. Seeing a dragon that didn't even know him, give the life just for the cause, it was a lump in Merion's throat he couldn't swallow. It wasn't long after, that he returned home, a more grizzled dragon with a colder-exterior. He would always be ready to protect his clan, his family, but now he realized, caring so much would hurt him more than not- so in the effort of protecting himself and others, he blocked himself off from being so open with his heart. Still, it was frustrating to be seen as only a warrior- dark and cold-hearted, when deep inside he was still truly kind-hearted and compassionate... Merion was suddenly brought out of his thoughts by Comet not-so-gently nudging him under the bough roof of mountainous dark pine; apparently he had drifted off completely from the conversation. Outside, the soothing patter of rain-drops was starting, and not far away the flashes of light and the following rumbles of thunder began as-well. Comet sighed unhappily, and seated himself next to the older Guardian, apparently not enjoying the rain quite as much. Merion turns to him a slight smile, one the younger dragon seemed to recognise as a grimace instead as such. ”I guess we're stuck here waiting, huh", the dragon mumbled unenthusiastically. ”Have patience Comet, it'll pass. Now, what were you saying about this new recruit?" |
