da-hallowmoon-by-angelichellraiser.gifCW: Subspecies contains mention of eventual suicides.

Shadeborn. The dichotomy within her had always fueled her dancing. Dramatic and full of passion. The darkness of the Shade that had grown with her in the egg made war with her fiery zest for life and she danced it all out with a pyromantic flare.

She’d become popular through these dances, occasionally adding her own coatl-hum song to the instruments. However, due to the misfortune in her hatching, the shade taint all her subspecies bore, she’d led a lonely existence. An admired dancer and entertainer, absolutely, but a dangerous one others kept their distance from.

For the longest time she thought they were right, even as she defiantly persisted against the Shade whispering through her being. She’d had a hard life, but she’d grown strong and tenacious. Then, as the Shade within grew more insidious, she met another Shadeborn, a skydancer - defiant like herself, but in a sharp and withdrawn, shadows and secrets way.

Gida. They’d saved her when the Shade almost won what would have been her final dance. Then they referred her to Delari Sylvae and the sunny Light therapist, Yavie.

Here, at last, she found family, and then love and a best friend in the form of an imperial twice her size. Caesalpinia - a practical and patient dragon with her own surprisingly fiery, creative depths. Also cursed with the Shadeborn’s fate, together they occasionally take in hatchlings like themselves, fostering them under Yavie’s specialized style of therapy.

These days the future is looking far more hopeful. The Shade is still deep within, but along with the other Shadeborn in Delari Sylvae, Lehua is getting the support and encouragement to fight back through Light therapy and thoroughly embracing her creative passions. These days the stories presented in her pyromantic dances all involve triumph over the Shade. Each one renders it noticeably weaker, quieter in her mind.

xHvbxPp.png Her Hawaiian name is in reference to the Ohi'a Lehua - a very hardy, flowering tree that is among the first to grow after lava flows. The flowers are an explosion of fiery reds and yellows (with the rare white on occasion).

(Named primarily for the plant and its ability to prosper and grow in hostile environments. This plant has the ability to essentially hold its breath around harmful gases, among other features adapted to growing quickly and surviving on mostly barren lava flows. The plant has some unrelated, but interesting tragic mythology around it too.)

From the wiki: Lehua can be broken into two words: lehu (to burn) and ua (rain). This shows the relationship between the tree and its volcanic landscapes.

Ohiʻa includes the word 'ohi, or to gather. This is a reference to gathering rain.

This pair does not breed in my lore - all of their hatchlings are instead Shadeborn foundlings who were fostered with the help of Yavie's therapeutic techniques.

"While Coatls are a beautiful breed, most females seem to get overlooked because of their pose. Personally, I do love them all the same, but Lehua is an absolutely gorgeous dragon. The faceted eye type really matches well with her whole lava theme. Very simple yet elegant overall. XXX dragons also have a habit of not being very interesting to look at in my opinion due to them not really having any distinctive features but she truly does provide a really pleasing image to the eye. "Loving the stacking of red/orange accents - it adds really nice depth to the outfit without covering the dragon to the point that she's unrecognizable"

"Lehua is a beautiful example of an XXX obsidian and I love how well her familiar matches her apparel!"

"You have so many beautiful dragons! I liked a few as I was looking around your lair, but I have to say Lehua caught my eye the most!

I love her color scheme -- the fiery aesthetic on top of blacks is a weakness of mine, and it suits her perfectly. I'm also a sucker for faceted eyes and subspecies, and the phoenix familiar is one of my favorites. Reading her lore was also a treat, and it's clear you've put a lot of effort into it! She's breathtaking."

"Likes this one too, didn't even think she was an xxx obsidian, more like a sunshine/orange-range colors so the accent tricked me pretty good. Anyway i just love volcanic-like dragons that are dressed up perfectly."

"i revisited your lair and handed out some more stars! selxia and callisto are gorgeous, like the night sky (36 and 56 respectively), lehua is ethereal with her fiery colors contrasting so nicely against obsidian, my fave (67), zylaris (68) looking so mysterious and lovely ... and aurora, a very warm baby at 32 <3"

"Lehua won the battle of who would be shared.
She is so fierce and gorgeous.
Every piece of her apparel is so well placed and her familiar is perfect!
When I first clicked on her the phoenix was in ashes!
:D"

"Your fire dragons are breathtaking, and I especially love how the black colours - like coal or ashes or the darkness which is the opposite of the enlightening fire - play together with the warm, fiery ones on Solvi and Lehua!
Lehua is my personal favourite this week! I love the warmth of her orange colours, and how her accent comes out perfectly on her dark, shimmering body, looking like a candle in the darkness which leads your way. She looks so incredibly elegant, noble, and beautiful with the mysterious smoke, and her pretty flowers <3"

"I love a primarily black Fire dragon (hence my rep being the same). I also love a cool Shade-touched dragon. So, logically, I love your primarily black Shade-touched Fire dragon. (Also, at first glance I wouldn't have thought that Lehua had 19 apparel pieces AND an accent -- it's the small things that matter, I suppose.)"
(From Saronai's Star Exchange Themes: Fire!)
- CosmicHurricane

"I liked all 3 of yours here, though Lehua was before today! She is one classy looking lady! She has a wonderful balance of bright and dark, I find very harmonious, and almost surprising that the color is all from her outfit. I'd love to see one of her dances!"
(From Saronai's Star Exchange Themes: Fire!)
- Deladria

"Lehua is lovely as well, with her deeper oranges giving her a persistent warmth. Her faceted eyes ringed by the Conflagrant Halo are especially striking."
(From Saronai's Star Exchange Themes: Fire!)

"lehua looks lovely with that accent! the themed name is also quite a nice touch and very fitting too. her outfit is minimalist yet still very eyecatching!"
(From Saronai's Star Exchange Themes: Fire!)
- mynnthia

"Saronai your dragons are so prettyyyyy! These are such excellent examples of Fire aesthetic.

Lehua! Definitely a case of 'less is more' with her apparel - that a stunning look she has, just from a few key pieces and that accent! <3 Love it. I'm not familiar with the subspecies but that is a cool concept. I also love the idea of two shade-touched mamas helping out hatchlings who are similarly afflicted, that's so lovely! (Oh hey, I gave her 100th star!)"
(From Saronai's Star Exchange Themes: Fire!)
- Lundlaeva

"Lehua is an absolutely gorgeous example of a phoenix rising from the ashes. Their XXX Obsidian is reminiscent of the coals and ashes and then all of their fire-y apparel really makes them seem as though they are emerging victorious. Yet another dragon that I love."

"Lehua is a little charcoal ember given life. She feels very sassy to me, and I love everything about her."

"The black contrasts so well with the fire!!! And the gold with the earrings and the shimmer and the sparkles!!!!! The flowers are so well put up along the body too!!! Dunno how to word it its jsut so cool!!!!"
