Biography

DqIpM6r.gif

A playful and curious youth drawn to the idea of befriending ghosts, Nem believes in seeking friends wherever they may be found and keeps a diary of what he considers to be his exciting adventures.

Ghost stories were always Nem's favourite. The chills from tales told by candlelight. The thrill of the dark.

Sometimes when he had to step away from the group for a drink during one of those nights spent swapping tales, Nem called out a hello. It made the darkness a little less spooky, and maybe there was a ghost who just wanted a friendly hello. It felt warm to imagine.

It was Nem's idea that the then nomadic family should visit the Hewn City. They'd crossed the Scarred Wasteland more than once and were willing to seek wonder in dangerous places.

Watchful Comu was the first to notice Nem trying to sneak out looking for ghosts. Wandering Fionne was eager to join and the four tundra siblings decided to venture out together.

The tundra led his siblings to explore abandoned lairs and aged ruins whenever opportunity presented itself. Nem scouted out in the lead and Fionne brought her paper lanterns. Once they found a good spot, Niah shared snacks and Comu set up board games.

Given Fionne's strong wanderlust, their parents agreed it was far better she adventure with her brothers and sister.
It was a wonderful time of tales, games and laughter.

But life carries on. Niah left on a centaur exchange programme, and the tundra siblings were able to encourage their new maplemark friend to join them on a couple of camp-outs.

Comu introduced Nem and Fionne to roleplaying games. Which Nem took to like a duck to water. Fionne practiced origami further, and made hats for the tundras and little figurines for the board. As well as running the game, Comu had been learning to weave flax. After time and some begging, he made the three of them simple cloaks. Nem simply brought his unbridled enthusiasm and ideas to the table.

Niah wasn't as interested in the siblings' camps after her year in the Everbloom Gardens. She was more aware of all their parents did for them and made the recipes she'd learnt away from home to share with the tribe.

Nem was gutted when Fionne left. The roleplaying games weren't the same without her, and Comu apologised that they'd have to put the adventure on hold. Nem rejected Comu's offer for the two of them to talk through how the game's story might have ended to tie things up. Nem was sure that Fionne would come back. The family had even decided to settle with a clan in the Hewn City where the games begun.

Eventually Fionne did indeed return, but the tension she felt prevented her from accepting Nem's request for some time.

So Nem wandered alone again, still on the lookout for ghosts. Although the tundra prefers company, he can't deny that it was during those days he really paid attention to his senses, and in those old haunts came to glimpse the stuff of fireside tales.

Nem encountered a strange creature amid the ruins one day. It sort of resembled a rabbit with a bird skull and antlers. It didn't flee from him, and they started to play.

One day he encountered a strange little beast, a Skully. They played for a time, and then the Skully ducked behind a half-crumbled wall, and Nem followed.
The first thing he heard was the heavy, shaking breathing, as though one were on the verge of tears. Nem couldn't see it properly, a fuzziness out the corner of his eye really, but he immediately felt sorry for whatever it was.

The Skully, who Nem later named Sweets, followed close behind watching, as Nem stepped forward to offer consoling words.
