(1) Dragons must be at least five generations apart to breed. Before you invest in a dragon make sure it's not related to its mate by assaying bloodlines in the Scrying Workshop. (2) Check that your pair is Ready to Breed (RTB). If you see this egg then you must wait before you can get started. Breeds are classed by rarity determined by the length of cool down. Rarity affects the odds of hatching specific breeds. Pairing dragons of the same rarity, ie. two Plentifuls gives a 50/50 chance of hatching either. If you pair a Common and a Plentiful the odds are slightly greater of hatching the Plentiful. Pairing a Rare with a Plentiful means an almost 100% chance that all offspring will be the Plentiful breed. |
What about genes...? _____ There are three gene classifications each affecting a different part of the dragon. Genes are broken into rarity categories that function like breed rarity. |
|
Primary Genes:
affect the body Secondary Genes : 'wing genes' affect wings and accent spots -- tail fur, head feathers, etc. Tertiary Genes: can cover body and wings; overlaps primary and secondary genes ______________________________ |

Each dragon has three colours of a potential 177, one for each gene. If the tertiary gene is Basic, the tertiary colour will not be visible. Matching colours, especially on Gen Ones, are popular and frequently referenced; for instance, XXY to indicate a matching primary and secondary and so on. ________________________________ Offspring colours are determined by the parents' range. FR operates on a colour wheel so range is defined by the shortest distance between the pairs' colors, up to and including their own. |
The Auction House (AH) allows you to tailor searches. Browse by age, level, price, genes, colours and more. You can even save searches. ______________________________ Explore the different breeds and genes to find what you like best. There's no rush: dragons are always hatching and lair space is limited! A nest can have anywhere from 1 - 4 eggs, but parents of different breeds have a chance of laying five eggs. Flight is determined by the nest a dragon hatches in. If you wish to breed pairs in a different flight for lore reasons, or to coordinate eye-colour there are rental services in the forums. Always read and respect the rules of the thread and of fellow renters! It will take 6 days to hatch your nest if you incubate every day. That's five days of incubation and one for hatching! A day is calculated according to FR time. To hatch, you must have enough space in your lair. There's no penalty for leaving eggs on a nest. A FEW NEST RENTAL OPTIONS: |

After the events of Bounty of the Elements, dragons began manifesting changes to their eyes. The Eye Type of a dragon is random, with the exception of 'Glowing Eyes', which can be purchased in the gem marketplace. |
The Auction House (AH) is the main sales hub in FR. Choose whether to sell in-flight or site-wide, and price in gems or treasure. Treasure listings are subject to an AH tax. If you're stuck on price, check what similar dragons are listed for. With all the listings posted in the AH it can be hard to make sure yours stand out! Advertise your dragons in the 'Dragons Wanted' forum, where someone might be looking for what you have to offer. Tumblr has an active FR community, and hatcheries can be a great way to build interest in your hatchlings (if you don't mind a bit of work!) For rare dragons such as 1st Gens, low-digit IDs, or dragons with new genes/colors, an auction might be the way to go. Post a clean, easy-to-follow thread in Auction Forum showing dragon(s), highest bid, and duration of auction. Ping previous bidders when prices increase. Learn more! |

Admins say: "once you've given away, traded, or sold a dragon ...it's no longer under your ownership; it belongs to the new owner and they are free to do as they wish with the dragon." 'Do not exalt' rules are not allowed; no one can tell you what to do with your dragons as long as you're not harassing someone. Learn about exalting! | _______________________ |

| Don't rush into opening a hatchery straight away! It's possible to sell dragons without one, and it's good to get a feel for the site and what you like. Joint hatcheries can ease the workload, if you have an active friend on FR. A theme, even a loose one, can make your space memorable, as well, refining what you sell: particular breeds/genes, subspecies, fan dragons, lore dragons etc. |
Layout and coding can make or break a hatchery! The more user-friendly you can make your thread, the better! Dragons for sale should be as close to the top as you can place them, followed by your pairs. Fonts should be clear and legible and any rules or writing kept to a minimum. Links and navigation lists are a great tool to allow people to hop to what they're looking for. |

| Pair cards display your breeding dragons so people can decide if they're interested in offspring. Cards can be as simple or as elaborate as you like but keep in mind their function! While the temptation may be to show-off your pairs in all their finery the customer isn't buying apparel or skins from your hatchery. For pairs with ranges try to offer hatchling previews. You can also list price ranges for offspring from each pair. |

____________________________ BREEDING PROJECTS: when your dream dragon doesn't exist on FR, you have to breed for it. Often breeding projects become gene projects once the desired dragon(s) have hatched. Required: lair space, determination and perseverance! |
____________________________ GENE PROJECTS: when you set-out to perfect a dragon by swapping genes. This can be as simple as one gene, or as complicated as three genes and a breed change! These projects require skill in earning funds, and budgeting! |
__ |
SCRYING The Scrying Workshop is an important tool! Use Predict Morphology to preview breeds, genes and colour combinations to create a dream dragon, or use the ID of a one in your clan to perfect its genes! Foresee Progeny shows the offspring of any two dragons. Assaying Bloodlines is even more important during breeding projects! | __ |
SEARCHING Use Dragon Search to comb through all of time & space, or at least all of FR, and find any dragon; even exalted ones. Keep terms broad to start ie. colour only, and get more specific if you get lots of results. Older dragons are listed first, so skip to later pages/entries for greater odds of finding dragons in the AH. | __ |
__ |
FODDER The more pairs you have breeding for a dragon, the greater the odds of success! The goal is offspring so plentiful or common breeds are best; it might be worth breed changing fodder to reduce cool down. Check the odds of hatching a dragon! Avoid inbreeding by picking the best 1 or 2 babies per clutch and selling/exalting the rest, and never stop checking for better matches. | __ |
Ping/PM Don't be afraid to ask if a player will sell or breed a dragon. Be polite, you're asking for a favor and the user doesn't have to help. Check their profile to make sure they accept PMs, as well as the bio of the dragon you're requesting in case there is a note indicating if they will/won't sell. Respect the answer you receive, even if it's not the one you wanted! | __ |
