Biography

RHIZOMA
"home, i said | in every language there is a word for it | in the body itself, climbing, there is also a word for it | i said, home."

Rhizoma’s biggest flaw and biggest asset are the same thing: her soft spot for anyone putting on a brave face because they don’t want to trouble anyone else. It got her in trouble, when she put her nose in where it wasn’t wanted - but it made her friends, when she pulled dragons out of bad situations and gave them the listening ear or the shelter they needed.

&

This meant that when she found a frightened thing that looked not quite like a Nocturne and not quite like a Spiral, but was probably a dragon and definitely someone who needed help - well, she had to help. He lifted his asymmetric head and peered at her from out of the darkness with a few too many (wary) eyes, and Rhizoma fell in love.

She was lucky in that, while Marrow required coaxing to speak to her, he did take a liking to her immediately. He came back to himself, settling into a more recognizable form in a matter of hours, and she left her questions for later. His comfort over her curiosity.

One thing led to another, and so it was that they were actually watching over a nest by the time Mettle and Whyfor managed to find them.

"Mettle isn't doing too well," Whyfor fretted to Rhizoma after the initial reunion-greetings were exchanged. "Her colours won't stay put. Sometimes she changes when she dreams."

She grimaced. Marrow was good at hiding it, but he'd never really recovered from those first awful days, and she couldn't tell if he was getting worse but he certainly wasn't getting better.

"You mentioned - hinted - that you were... created?" she asked Marrow that night, watching worriedly as he struggled to keep his claws the same size so he didn't jostle the eggs too hard by accident. "I think we should go find him. I don't think this is sustainable, love."

Marrow's claws slipped on the nesting material for the third time, and he sighed, giving up. "It isn't."

rQZwI8y.png Mettle and Marrow were created with good intentions, but they’re having trouble keeping up with the demands of the magic that sustains them. To put it simply: they need love from other dragons to survive, but neither of them are... social butterflies, exactly.

Their children want to help! Mettle and Marrow’s direct descendants are afflicted with the same dilemma, to varying degrees, but they also have a range of personalities. And even if only some of them get out there in the world and tell the story of their lineage, that’s still more than the family was working with before.

Consider welcoming a Restless Replica into your lair, and help clean up this mess that a hapless Spiral alchemist created.
