Biography

Backstory: Diablo grew up in the Wirestratus Clan, a distant clan many miles away from the Aquafire Clan. When Diablo was a hatchling he thought his mom, Ampere, was the bravest dragon in the whole wide world. Ampere would fly into the fiercest storms to repair and recharge the crystals that sustained the Wirestratus Clan. Although, the older members of the Wirestratus Clan knew that Ampere didn’t fear the storms because she hated herself and didn’t care if she was injured or killed. Diodon tried to explain to Diablo that Ampere had a metal illness, but Diablo was to young to fully understand his mother’s struggles. When Diablo was nearing adolescence, he wanted to prove to his clan that he was just as brave as his mother. After ‘borrowing’ some cracked crystals his mother has planning to recharge the next day, the ridgeback snuck out of the Wirestratus Clan’s den in the dead of night. From there, Diablo flew out into the stormy night sky to recharge his clan’s precious crystals. The storms circling around the Wirestratus Clan’s den were particularly nasty that night. Diablo fought against the strong winds for as long as he could manage, but eventually the ridgeback was overpowered by the storms’ might. Diablo descended to the earth and crashed into the Tempest Spire. During the fall, Diablo had lost the precious crystals he had intended to fix. Diablo had wanted to search for those crystals, but he was so exhausted that he passed out. Hours later, Diablo awoke to the sound of the Stormcatcher yelling, “HEY, KID ARE YOU DEAD? HOW DARE YOU BE DEAD! DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW UNPRODUCTIVE BEING DEAD IS?!” Once Diablo fully regained consciousness, he quickly explained to deity of thunder that he was, in fact, not dead. Diablo had never been this close to the Stormcatcher before and he was utterly terrified (but he somewhat successfully hid his fear). Diablo also apologized to the Bossdad for crashing into his shrine and explained how he had come to the Tempest Spire. Once the Stormcatcher had heard the ridgeback’s story, he hired Diablo. The ridgeback had survived flying through the stormy skies for seven hours, which was much longer than the other deceased employees could last. “But I didn’t even ask for a job,” Diablo muttered as the Stormcatcher began giving the ridgeback a small tour of his shrine. Diablo was too ashamed of losing some of his clan’s precious crystals to return home so he reluctantly agreed to work for the Stormcatcher. At first, Diablo enjoyed working for Stormcatcher. Diablo often did the most dangerous jobs that required him into stormy and uncharted skies to repair the Stormcatcher’s equipment. However, as Diablo kept getting promoted, he began to spend more and more time behind a desk, rather than outside in the storm clouds. His job had become a cage he no longer enjoyed. To make matters worse, the ridgeback missed the Wirestratus Clan and all of its members. One morning, Diablo was reading the Daily Coastal (the newspaper run by Costaluna) and saw that Damian, a pearlcatcher hellbent on stealing his father’s throne, had found the crystals Diablo had lost. According to the news report, Damian was paying skilled engineers to make Diablo’s crystals into deadly weapons. Diablo knew he had to get his clan’s crystals back before they were used for evil. The ridgeback bid the Stormcatcher and his fellow Stormcatcher employees farewell. The Stormcatcher gave Diablo a pair of voltaic stormclaws and insisted that he was not crying there just happened to be dust in his eye before the ridgeback left. Diablo flew to the territory ruled by Damian’s father, King Mavernos, in the Sunbeam Ruins. Diablo wandered from town to town, trying to gather as much information about the location of his clan’s crystals. Fortunately, Diablo soon discovered that crystals were being kept in a secret lab beneath Mavernos’s castle. After a week of travel and careful planning, the ridgeback snuck into Damian’s secret lab in the dead of night. However, once Diablo got inside the lab he realized he wasn’t the only one trying to steal the Wirestratus Clan’s crystals. The Aquafire Clan had feared that Damian was on the verge of creating weapons that could help him take King Mavernos’s Kingdom and other nearby nations by force. For this reason, the Aquafire Clan sent Umbra to steal Damian’s crystals. By pure coincidence, Umbra had planned to steal the crystals on the same night as Diablo had. When Diablo first ran into the snapper dragon he thought she was trying to steal the crystals for her own evil purposes. Umbra assumed the same thing about Diablo. Umbra and Diablo vigorously battled against one another until they accidentally set off a security alarm. Damian and his guards poured into the secret lab. It was in that moment, that Umbra and Diablo agreed to work together to get the crystals out of the lab and decide who would get to keep them later. Together, the ridgeback and the snapper were unstoppable. They took down all the guards with ease. It wasn’t long before Damian was the only enemy remaining. Umbra roared, “This is what you get for killing my sister, you son of a cockatrice!” Before Diablo could think, the snapper dragon charged at Damian while she held one of Diablo’s crystals between her teeth. She had intended to stab Damian with the crystal, but Diablo stopped the snapper dragon by tackling her. “Those crystals are not meant to harm other dragons,” Diablo told the astonished snapper dragon. Meanwhile, Damian began frantically running out of the secret labs like the coward he was. Umbra let the coward run away. She knew deep down, her sister wouldn’t have wanted her to kill Damian. Umbra and Diablo left the secret labs behind and hid within the shadows of the Tangled Woods. Once Diablo and Umbra were sure they were safe, Diablo cautiously asked Umbra about her sister. Umbra explained that her sister, Intru, had been badly bullied by Damian and she had eventually committed suicide because of Damian’s verbal and physical abuse. The snapper dragon told Diablo that she had been sent by the Aquafire Clan to stop Damian, but her real motivation to stop Damian had been her sister’s death. Umbra cried as she admitted this. Diablo put his wings around the snapper dragon. He softly told Umbra about the Wirestratus Clan and his own story to get her mind off her sister. For most of the night, Umbra and Diablo stayed in that position looking up at the starry night sky and telling each other about their clan’s lore. The next day, Umbra decided to travel with Diablo to the Wirestratus Clan and return the crystals to there rightful place. When Diablo and Umbra reached a familiar barren cliff face, Diablo stopped walking. It had been so long since he had seen his family. He worried that they would be angry with him. Fortunately, Umbra managed to coax Diablo to enter the deep cavern that lead to the Wirestratus Clan. Once in side the caves, Diablo saw his mother, Ampere. Diablo held out the two crystals and could only manage to say, “I-I brought them back, Mom.” Ampere didn’t say anything. The female ridgeback ran up to Diablo and pulled him into a tight embrace. Diablo dropped the crystals, but Ampere didn’t notice. Ampere began crying as she held onto Diablo. Diodon had heard his mate crying and quickly rushed to see what was the matter. Although, Diodon began crying too, once he saw his son had returned. For a couple of days, Diablo and Umbra stayed in the Wirestratus Clan sharing stories and visiting with the members of the Wirestratus Clan. Although, the time came Umbra knew she had to return to her beloved Aquafire Clan. When Diablo had heard that Umbra was going to head back to her own clan, he was heartbroken. When Umbra bid the dragons a final farewell, Diodon noticed his son’s gloomy mood. “You should go with Umbra, Diablo,” Diodon told his son. Diablo looked at his father with wide eyes. “But what about you and mother?” The young ridgeback asked. “We’ll be fine, Diablo. Don’t let us stop you from following your heart,” Diodon replied. Diablo hugged his father and mother and bid his parents farewell. Then, Diablo flew off to find his love, Umbra.

Personality: Diablo is an adrenaline junky. He loves to dangerous and scary things for the thrill of it (especially if that scary and dangerous thing is flying through storm clouds). Unlike typical ridgebacks, Diablo loves to swim, partially because he grew up swimming with his father in the Wirestratus Clan’s swimming caves. Also, Diablo is a surprisingly good listener and very empathetic. Family is very important to Diablo. The ridgeback often visits his parents in the Wirestratus Clan.

Clan Position: Ambassador of the Wirestratus Clan/Mechanic/Fisherdragon

Soul Mate: Umbra

Familiar: While Diablo was working for the Stormcatcher, one of his coworkers started shouting, “Ahhhh! Diablo, it’s a spider! Kill it! Kill it!” Diablo went to see the small insect that was causing all of the commotion and saw a small ashpine widow cowering in the corner of the room. Diablo couldn’t bring himself to kill the tiny spider. The ridgeback dragon scooped up the little bug and released into the wild...or at least that’s what he tried to do. As soon as the ridgeback set the spider on the ground, it rushed back to Diablo and hugged one of his claws. Diablo figured he would take care of the ashpine widow. Diablo fed the spider and walked it daily. The ridgeback named the spider Lucy. Lucy grew up to be a five foot long spider that struck fear into the hearts of all of Stormcatcher’s employees (and still continues to do so to the members of the Aquafire Clan). However, Lucy could never hurt a fly. The ashpine widow behaves like a dog most of the time and loves to get her belly rubbed.
