Biography
S U M M A R Y
Chaugmar only interacts with a select few in all of Valentia. For many, all they know of him is his fearsome visage, and that he is their Emperor. Towards those who truly know him, Chaugmar is stern, but quiet, preferring to keep to himself. Parthia has told him time and time again if he doesn't have anything nice to say then he shouldn't say anything at all. He has very few interactions with those outside house Etruria. Chaugmar will only speak to those closest to him. Fandango and Parthia he will hold conversations with, and he will do the same with Quin and the lords of the other Valentian houses, but only out of necessity. Chaugmar spends the vast majority of his time in his chambers alone in his remorse, but he will visit Artemia in the palace dungeon on occasion. Some part of him feels that helping her find herself again is his responsibility. He will also leave his chambers to spend the day with Parthia when she isn't otherwise occupied. As the acting leader it would follow that Chaugmar was involved in the clan's founding. Chaugmar originally lived in the Scarred Wasteland with Artemia alone. The two had no family to speak of, as they were born in solitude, only having one another as companions in the world. Chaugmar and Artemia formed an immediate bond and stuck with one another, doing their best to make it on their own. Fandango happened across the pair one day, and despite Artemia's wariness, he became fast friends with Chaugmar. The trio banded together and created a clan of their own, scraping by with what little they had, and taking from anyone when they needed more. They quickly became ruthless, heartless, and spared none in their attempts to survive. Artemia quickly became focused on taking on stronger and stronger opponents for the sake of battle and the spoils of victory. Chaugmar for many long years went along with her bloodlust, but eventually he felt a change. Chaugmar was becoming more welcoming of new members who could fend for themselves in a fight, but Artemia was not so open minded. This caused a split between them, and was what led Chaugmar to becoming the reclusive man he is today. While Artemia lost her humanity entirely, Chaugmar feels much remorse for the lives he took pointlessly. Chaugmar is still considered Emperor of Valentia, he just refuses to make decisions for the clan without speaking to Parthia, Quin, or Fandango first, because he fears he may bring the clan and its members to corruption if he isn't kept in check. With help from these trusted few, Chaugmar keeps Valentia functioning. Parthia and Chaugmar's relationship is an interesting one. When Parthia came to Valentia she brought a band of dragons with her, and they were granted refuge by Quintavius. When Parthia learned that Quin wasn't supposed to have the final say, she wanted to prove to Chaugmar that she belonged in Valentia. She wanted to earn her place in the clan, not just have it handed to her. She promptly challenged Chaugmar to a fight, within minutes of having met him, stating that if she could best him in battle then she deserved to stay. Chaugmar reluctantly agreed. Parthia didn't win the first time, but she kept coming back, again and again, to prove herself to him. Somewhere between the fifth and the twelvth time, Chaugmar began to realize he was developing feelings towards her. It took until the twenty-first time, but Parthia finally did best Chaugmar in battle, and she confessed that she believed she had fallen in love with him right after. Chaugmar told her he felt the same, and the two have been the figureheads of Valentia ever since. G O A L S Chaugmar's reclusiveness has led to him being nearly forgotten in the day-to-day affairs of Valentia. He strongly wishes to pick up some of the slack so that Parthia may take a well deserved break, however he is petrified of making a grave mistake. As such he simply keeps to himself and keeps his business with the rulers of the other nations short, or he will send Quin, Fandango, or Parthia in his stead. He fears that she will begin to resent him for this, but he is unable to change his ways. |
