Recently, he has heard of a great fiend some fortnights' travel from his most recent camp. There is rarely any reward for felling such things, but sometimes they have hoards. And where there are fiendish hoards, sometimes there are great treasures as well. Perhaps, if he slays this monster, he will be able to at last find the edge he seeks over his too-lucky sister. And then, maybe, he'll get the respect he's always deserved.
