Welcome To The Phoenix Allegiance

A Clan dedicated on healing the broken, and finding a way to start again, like how a phoenix rises from its ashes.

Hidden within a mountain in the Crystalspine Reaches is the home of The Phoenix Allegiance, a clan founded and lead by the mysterious dragon who found their lair years ago, Ridley. Their land was once the home to ancient dragons however, as their predecessors left runes engraved along the base of their mountain with traces of old magic still teeming from within each marking. It’s unknown exactly what their purpose was (or perhaps still is) but some believe it may have once been a way of keeping them concealed, to keep them safe from lands outside of their influence. As a precautionary measure however the clan’s gardener planted trees and shrubs across many ledges and cliffs, in order to keep their entryway unclear and practically invisible to strangers.

The entrance is a wide tunnel lit by lanterns containing fireflies and crystals giving off a peculiar glow, making for just enough light to allow a visitor to see but also dim enough to easily darken the way in times of danger. Following the path will lead you into the clan’s main chamber at the heart of the mountain, where the first thing in sight is a large crystal statue of a female imperial that towers over everyone. It’s well looked after by the clan and looked upon with high respect, almost as if she’s the allegiance’s guardian angel that will forever protect them from harm.

The main chamber has many branching tunnels that either existed when they got here, or were personally dug by the clan’s residents in order to make space for everyone. They can seem confusing for a newcomer as it seems like everything looks so similar, however once someone has stayed for awhile they notice small signs of which path goes where. Some of them lead off into other secret entryways that are lit the same as the first, others to the personal dens of each member which are decorated to suit their personalities. The only tunnels that are relatively unmarked in some way are the storage dens, and paths that not even the inhabitants know much about and tend to stay away from.

HbZbc0i.png The most notable one though is the one that leads to a spiral staircase that goes up to the more important parts of the lair, such as the council room, the training room, and lastly at the very top of the mountain, the leader’s den. The council room is where Ridley’s carefully chosen council members will discuss ideas to bring prosperity to their home, while the training room is where the captain of the guard brings all of his knights and guards to hone their skills in sparring and target practice.

The leader’s den is decorated with things they have collected over the years and possibly cryptic writings and magic from the clan before them, but what really stands out is their opening to the outside. They have a ledge in their den that they are often found on, stretching their wings in order to feel the breeze and looking down upon the land with a watchful eye on all of their dragons outside. There is also a space within their den that allows them to look down into the main chamber and speak to their loyal subjects whenever they feel it is needed.

While each member tends to busy themselves with something at the very least, some can often be found laying around outside of the lair among the trees and fields; feeling safe and relaxed without anything to worry about. However some occasionally will gaze onto the base of the mountain in wonder at the words etched into its side, some have said it’s a prophecy of some kind; but no one is certain of what it will mean for them if it happens.

The dragons that most assist Ridley in the royal duties as the monarch, are the clan’s own royal council, The Owls. They are a band of highly intelligent dragons lead by the clan’s own spirit Samhradh who has lived in the clan’s home longer than any other dragon.

Using their wit more than strength, The Owls, do what they can to assist the clan in their day to day lives and any problems the clan may face. They also help teach the younger dragons on what clan life means, how clan life works and help them to find their own way of calling, whether it being a guard member, merchant or even a miner.

The dragons who have trained hard and sworn to protect their home clan are the residents who make up the royal guard, or more commonly referred to as The Crows. The head of the guard is the leader’s mate Zevran, who was once a rival clan assassin before he called The Phoenix Allegiance his home. Stories like his exist in many of the members of the guard; from some who have lived in harsh situations but became stronger for them, and some who have lived lawlessly before they decided to protect others instead of maiming them. But each of them were picked personally by Zevran or Ridley themself to represent, protect, and serve their clan to the very best of their abilities; even if it’s at the cost of their very lives.

The Crows stand out compared to other members of the clan for their signature feathered apparel, before becoming an official member of the guard they must kill a feathered beast of some kind and bring back its plumage. The feathers are then made into a piece of clothing of their choice which allows them to be differentiated from the usual residents, and allows their powers in combat to be recognized as a force to be reckoned with.

Most tend to not think too hard about those who go out to hunt down food but, but the clan’s small gathering team, as they like to call themselves, The Sparrows, are small teams with an important role to the clan. Their work ranges from planting and growing plants to going out on hunting expeditions in order to bring back meat; they tend to be dragons with a considerable amount of skill in many fields as a result, both metaphorically and literally. Most of the time they tend to stay only within the territory of their home clan, however when the land needs to recover from overuse or they are in need of specific items, they will extend their reach to other elemental areas temporarily. Regardless of where they have to go however they are kind-hearted souls, if they find hurt or sick creatures in their search they will often bring them back and nurse them back to health. Often they will become familiars for their clanmates if they don’t choose to go back home anyway, they don’t mind if returning to the wild is what they choose but an extra helping hand is always welcome.

The gardens are managed by a gentle attendant by the name of Labhandar, who provides fruits and vegetables to the residents to the best of her ability. However her work would be much harder if she was alone, so Labhandar tends to receive assistance from the plant gatherer Wasabi. If their crops simply didn’t grow smoothly she can bring back new plants in order to feed everyone until the next set of crops comes in, and also bring new seeds to Labhandar herself in order to bring in new delicious greenery for everyone.

26100.png There are some members of the clan who have lives that exist outside of it for their own reasons, sometimes it is for the good of the clan and sometimes it is their own personal choice. But they travel across Sornieth most of their lives, never landing in one place for too long except for their home in the Starfall Isles. While this option is one that is always available to each resident very few take up the chance to travel, but a few have and despite the distance still look to their leader with respect.

Frost is a gift-giver who spends his time traveling to gather food, trinkets and toys for the hatchlings throughout the year. He only goes home for a short amount of time at the end of the year before he is off again, and Ridley has never been clear on whether or not he’s a real member. Jake is another dragon who is fairly distant but that is because he is an adventurer, he goes out in search of places that could act as temporary homes and treasure. Every time he returns to them he comes back with maps full of marked locations and glittering gems to sell.

"I’ll raise you like a phoenix.”
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Her name echoes what she was at one time, as Phoenix had been born a proud firebird who thought nothing of dragons and kept her distance from them. But when the clan’s mage was traveling for supplies in the Ashfall Waste she found the bird, and tried to earn it’s trust slowly with food in order to bring it back home with her.

She succeeded in bringing the bird back with her, but while testing magic on it she changed it’s form entirely to that of a skydancer. She found this to be a good thing as now her new friend could assist the clan, but Phoenix herself was understandably panicked over her new form and had to be calmed by Rose’s magic in order to be spoken to.

She asked for her friend to at least try out living as a skydancer, but if she found she absolutely hated it after a week or so then Rose promised that she would change her back. She was reluctant but agreed, and actually soon began to find that being a skydancer definitely had its advantages over being an average firebird. She could fly faster, catch food easier, and the most interesting one to her feel the emotions of others around her. Phoenix began to open up to the clan rather easily as suddenly it felt like everyone was a kind open book to her, even complete strangers that passed through would receive warm greetings from her and long (maybe a little too loud) conversations.

Rose waited for Phoenix to ask her to be turned back but it never happened, she was content to stay a dragon in the end and play with her clanmates joyfully. Her kindness to all in her clan and to all who visited did not go unnoticed by the leader either, Ridley gave Phoenix the title of the clan’s guide and ambassador for all that she had done. She holds this title proudly and is often now the first face that visiting dragons see when they come in, they get to take a look around and because of her more dragons have ended up staying for good after visiting. However as comfortable as Phoenix has gotten with her dragon form, she still sleeps with her head tucked under her wing just like she always did when she was only a bird.
