The first born of the Emperor is nearly always the heir to the throne, and Anian was blessed with that title from the very beginning. Cayne paid very special attention to his very first nest of hatchlings, but Anian was the one who was often brought away to witness important meetings and decisions made by his father. What always stood out to him was how so many of the dragons looked miserable or angry at times with their leader, and he soon learned why by taking a trip into the dungeons and finding the previous leader. Spiritus had long since lost his title to Cayne, and was being held captive for possibly the rest of his life for his unwillingness to give up his clan. Cayne had already taken it by force, but the fae refused to give in even if it meant staying in a cage for the rest of his life.

Horrified by what he found the eldest child vowed that when he took up the throne, he would change things for The Tempest Dynasty, he would give back power to the members of the old clan and let Spiritus go free. Anian kept these plans from his father, but he already had suspicions of what was happening to his son; enough to make him begin plans of his own to counter it.

Members of The Tempest Dynasty think highly of Anian in comparison to his father, and normally Cayne wouldn't have minded this if it had been simply a future king getting to know his subjects. But recently the prince has felt his title to be flimsy in his hands, his father has stopped involving him in political matters and behaves rather coldly towards him. When questioned he merely ignores his son, and his siblings look on in confusion as to how the favored son could suddenly become lower than a servant.

The Emperor is looking for a heir that will follow his command, and Anian can feel it in the air that his father knows it is no longer him. What worries him is what that will mean for himself, for his family, and most of all the clan held captive by a tyrant king.
