The stars have always been with them since they were born, but no matter how far back they remember Ridley can only recall their first home as being one with sickened air. Plague was not the place to be raising an arcane hatchling, but for reasons they will never understand their adoptive father was staying there, and still determined to raise them. But this clan in particular had a hatred for everything arcane stood for, no dragons of the Arcanist were welcome or else they would be slaughtered on sight. In public their eyes were hidden, and anyone who saw and asked were simply told their eyes were a condition on their plague eyes. It was enough to fool them for the first few years of their life while their father slowly put together supplies for an escape, but on the night they planned to run someone saw them and called for the others. They ran for their lives but in the end their father was captured, the last they remember of him was him telling them to run and survive just before his life had been lost. Ridley flew for many nights from the Scarred Wasteland to the Starfall Isles, and when they finally found a safe cave built into the side of a mountain in the Crystalspine Reaches they cried. They mourned their father alone for a long time, but eventually they had to let go of their sadness and search for food in order to fulfill his last wish for them; to survive. Plague had never been a good home, but it was at the very least good for teaching them how to hunt, scout, and build a lair for themself. However they weren’t alone for very long; when storms struck they brought with them dragons in need of a place to stay warm and dry, and lost travelers would at times find the entryway and stay with Ridley for some time to rest up before they headed on their way again. But some dragons chose to stay and repay Ridley for their kindness, bringing rise to the earliest version of the clan that would someday call itself The Phoenix Allegiance. Not everyone held good intentions with this new leader however, as for reasons unknown to them there was someone who would’ve rather seen Ridley’s generosity torn to pieces. A skilled assassin was sent to murder them, but even with the years of training they had done Ridley handled them with ease but still a gentle response. Their would-be murderer disappeared when they had failed their kill, but Ridley knew they were still hanging around somewhere along the mountain. They assured the others that there was nothing to be worried about, and though they were skeptical their leader proved to be right when after a few days they reappeared; but not with the intention to fight. He called himself Zevran, and asked for Ridley’s mercy and permission to join their clan even with the terrible thing he had attempted to do. Even if he expected nothing they forgave him and allowed him to join the clan the same way any dragon would. Over the years their clan grew and changed in many ways, but Ridley themself has always remained the same caring and respectful leader they have been since the beginning. Zevran himself changed more than they did, as after he talked and flirted with them for a very long time they eventually let him in and allowed him to be their mate. He was offered a position as a knight rather than a killer, and once he’d proved himself to the clan he was made the Captain of the Crows; though it did mean he couldn’t guard Ridley personally as much anymore as he had done once he’d joined their clan, but one thing he will always protect with them is their secrets. There are things about Ridley’s story that they tell no one about, forever leaving them as at least something of an enigma to their clan members but not to Zevran. Ridley disappears into their den of crystals, roses and warm sunlight, and as much as they adore every member that will ever join their clan; they all see their leader go knowing no one will ever discover all the stories they carry with them.
