In all seriousness, he manages the logistics of the clan, recording the histories and stories of the members. He also manages things like food supplies, tracking members, and other number based records. He was originally just a historian interested in the small developments around the clan, about how it came from nowhere and grew into something new and wonderful. Now he follows alongside them, recording their activities, the potentially history changing dragons that come and go, and the adventures sure to come.

Zeras was one of the first to arrive to Clan Xelestial. He found the clan to be a perfect place to set up a library. He manages the clan's records, keeping track of things like Gidget's sales, and the clan bloodlines. He collects histories from across the world, and has a network of informants that allow him to keep up with the goings-ons around the various nations. His library is one of the few Xelestial structures that lies at the top of the reedcleft ascent. A wooden walkway connects it to the surface, and the library serves multiple functions as the face of the Clan. It serves as a small inn, allowing travelers like Adhara and the crew of the Scourge to stay for a few days. It holds a small market where Gidget sells her wares. There is also a tavern within, where Samhain often dances, whenever he stops by in his travels. Izanai will sometimes sell his visions there, and Emphira and Emporo will do shows as well. For the most part, Chysis and Ansys run the tavern, and interact with the dragons that stop by from all around to meet and eat. Zeras was trained alongside Diomanai, Kurdrani, and Mazjari, and though he is older than the others, they remain close friends. Zeras is a master cleric, skilled in offensive and healing magics, and will sometimes offer his support to hunting teams on expeditions. Recently, news has reached him of a Coup in the far off desert kingdom. The prince has escaped, and a new king has risen. With the help of Adhara's pirates, Zeras sent word to Hamaat, the prince's protector, and led the escaped prince to safety at the ascent. There, he teaches the prince of magic, history, and etiquette, while planning their next move. Though he has to keep the Clan neutral in the conflict, Zeras is the driving force behind their secret alliances. |
Zeras
By: PunchingSolas
Zeras had eyed the paper with suspended disbelief.
What had started with skepticism had dwindled into a miserable ache in the swell of his chest.
“Maajhul...”
He sighed, feeling helpless. Thin fingers pressed the edge of his glasses to sit higher on his nose, setting the paper on his desk and looking around the library.
Gidget had been in earlier. Looking for something on ancient mechanics. Zeras had taken the opportunity to scold her dirty hands and stained scarf, reminding her that ‘a stained book is no good to anyone, least of all a reader’. He had wanted to look back in fondness, but the memory seemed tainted, basked in ignorance. He scaled the wooden ladder to collect a few books from a high shelf.
“These need sorting, still.”
His voice rang calm, monotonous, sliding down the ladder to plop the books upon the desk, smoothing fingers upon the leather-bound coldness of the book’s front, smiling at it.
There had been an unfortunately loud slam, as Zeras whipped around in surprise, his glasses nearly flung from his face. He soon scoffed, replacing his glasses back up onto the bridge of his nose, folding his arms.
“Ansys. Do we slam doors here?” He frowned, turning up his nose. She broke out into soft giggles.
“We do now, don’t we?” She nodded, the clunk of her metals jarring Zeras. She had slid the books to the side on his desk, dumping an impressive pile of books from a recent adventure, offering Zeras a smirk, his eyes glimmering with interest.
“Are those...?” He trailed off, stretching out an arm to collect the top book. He had savoured the creak of the book’s front opening, exploring the words with a keen fascination. Ansys laughed.
“Just a few things I found along my way. I’ve got some amazing stories to tell you, too! I tried reading them as I walked, but I didn’t really understand half of it. Too old for me.” Ansys snorted, her nose wrinkling with childish enthusiasm.
“Well, of course you wouldn’t understand. You lack the intellect and wisdom that I have, naturally. Your tiny mind could only hope to achieve an iota of stored knowledge. But, it is quite fine. Your ignorance shall not be held against you.” He nodded, eyes closed and glasses repositioned. “I shall be storing these in their rightful places. Your contribution to the library is thanked and acknowledged.”
Ansys had thought better than to argue, instead nodding along peacefully. She smiled, soon taking a book into her hands and looking it over, before humming at Zeras.
“Well, I’ll leave you to it. I’ll keep the knowledge thing in mind. Better...’hit the books’.” She laughed, wiggling the book in her hand before placing it on the desk, Zeras staring at her in disbelief. She had soon left, and he had sighed, shaking his head.
“...’Hit the books’.” He breathed, chuckling under his breath. “W-What a good pun.”
The paper had fallen, news of Maajhul’s disappearance still ringing in Zeras’s mind. He was filled with a newfound optimism, collecting the paper from the ground and eyeing it.
He wondered if perhaps there was a book, resting among the colossal collection, that would be of use. After all, in times of great darkness, knowledge becomes the guiding light.
