Nyss is very much so her mother’s daughter. Doenca is a Plague dragon through and through, and Nyss is not — but she has dedicated her entire existence to the idea of being a Plague dragon. She has suppressed her own Lightning magic as much as she can, and is always trying to learn to channel Plague magic, although she has yet to succeed. She makes regular expeditions to the Scarred Wasteland to try and research her roots. She has made herself look the part as much as she can, even going so far as to hide her eyes so others mistake her for a true Plague dragon. And most dragons just leave her be. It’s almost like playing pretend, in their eyes, but to Nyss, it’s the real deal. They’re her roots. Therefore, it is her.

Nyss knows that her mother isn’t in the best of minds, and is almost always by her side. Part of it is listening to her mother’s stories about her childhood by the Wyrmwound; most of it is out of her love and support for her mother. She knows that she and her father are some of the only support Doenca has, as Doenca chases away everyone else who approaches her, and has loyally vowed to stay by her mother’s side and support her, no matter what her state of mind is.

Nyss has tried to commit herself to a more “Plague” mindset, and out loud, she praises survival of the fittest and adaptation. But in her heart, Nyss has Lightning origins that she just can’t let go of. In making herself try to fit in with her ancestry, Nyss has shown ingenuity and intelligence, and no matter how hard she tries to deny it, Nyss knows she is a Lightning dragon. She doesn’t want to deny her Plague roots — but in the process, she has denied her Lightning roots. She doesn’t want to deny her mother — but in the process, she has denied her father.
